Register from 10:00 am to 10:20am at the BookFest PA Costume Contest Tent in the Schlow parking lot to receive your number. Any acceptable prop weapons will be checked. Please do not bring functional or realistic weapons. 2. Remain in the Schlow Library parking lot with your number displayed so judges can see you. 3. Book Fest PA 2016 Event information The History of Women in Comics with Tim Hanley DOWNSBROUGH COMMUNITY ROOM 11am Tim Hanley is a comic book historian and comes to us all the way from Nova Scotia. With two books under his tool belt, Hanley and blogs about Wonder Woman at Straitened Circumstances and also writes about women in comics at Bleeding Cool in his monthly “Gendercrunching” column. He has a Master’s degree in history from Dalhousie University, writing his honours thesis on DC Comics and the 1950s juvenile delinquency crisis and his Master’s thesis on Wonder Woman and feminism. He’s kind of a nerd, really. His latest book Investigating Lois Lane: The Turbulent History of the Daily Planet’s Ace Reporter, was released in March 2016, from the Chicago Review Press Are We There Yet? Making Comics Inclusive DOWNSBROUGH COMMUNITY ROOM 2pm Bring your comments, questions, and capes. Aspiring writers, artists, and devoted fans are invited to discuss gender and diversity issues in our most beloved comics. From indie publishers to big studio artists and authors, our industry panel members will share their unique insight into the world of comics in the 21st century. Featuring: a.y. areyoshia.y. aka “areyoshi,” creator of the webcomics Optical Disarray and Third Kingdom, is a freelance artist with a ba in Fine arts from the indiana university of Pennsylvania. areyoshi specif-ically hopes to create an inclusive environment for all comic readers, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.http://areyoshi.deviantart.com/

shawn alleyneborn and raised on the island of barbados, Shawn alleyne relocated to Philadelphia in his teens. he is currently working in the demanding field of freelance art as a Writer, Illustrator and instructor, and has produced numerous pieces for novels, comics, as well as a video game with his Street team Studio mates. Shawn’s personal work is produced under the Pyroglyphics Studios banner, a name roughly translated to “Hot Images”, meant to reflect his gritty self-taught style. Titles include: Street Team, Aizan, and Hardwired.

Dave ebersole Dave is a playwright, comic book writer, director, amateur mixologist, and sometimes-actor in the Philadelphia area. with a bachelor’s Degree in theater from temple university, Dave also attended the 2012 Summer Seminar for writers at Sarah lawrence college, focusing on graphic novel writing, taught by Scott Snyder. his plays include: Task, Living Space, The Church Bells All Were Broken, Subdivision, Redemption: a romantic comedy?, and Absolution. he is the co-creator and writer of DASH, an ongoing comic book series published by northwest Press. he lives outside Philadelphia with his puppy ernie.

Robert Hackrobert hack is a local, Pennsylvania artist, comic book/sketch-card illustrator and eloquent hillbilly. artist for archie comics’ Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. his credits also include cover artist for iDw’s Doctor Who, and X-Files comics. http://roberthackstudios.com/

John skerchockJohn Skerchock was born between the hour of man and wolf. He sold his first story while still in high school. A Penn State degree in creative writing was followed by a successful career with the Pennsylvania State Police.
