SME Academy on “Exporting to the EU”

Armenian companies need new markets. One of these new markets could be the European Union with its 500 million potential clients. The market is open not only for big companies but also for Small and Medium sized Enterprises from Armenia. How to access this market? The question got its answers during the SME Academy organised by the Yerevan Chamber of Commerce and Industry under East Invest 2.

5 experts from the EU gave a deep insight into Marketing and Communication, Participation in Trade Fairs, Technical standards and requirements, Export readiness and where to get practical assistance and opportunities for Armenian companies.

The participants learned how to assess the export readiness of their company, how to prepare for export and what regulations have to be respected, how to present their products and finally how to interact with potential business partners from the EU.Contact: Doris Rabetge - [email protected]

UNIDO and designer Giulio Vinaccia Receive Prestigious Compasso d’Oro industrial Design AwardThe receipt of Europe’s oldest and most honoured industrial design award not only confirms UNIDO’s position as an engaged actor in the field of using design as a development tool but makes it the first UN organization to receive such a prize.Seeing the extensive, yet undervalued, potential in the skills, artistry, creativity and cultural heritage of developing countries, UNIDO devised projects which c o u l d h a r n e s s r e g i o n a l s p e c i a l t i e s w h i l e simultaneously incorporating innovation and design. The Compasso d’Oro was therefore awarded on the basis of UNIDO’s inventive approach towards facilitating both economic and social development.By creating closer connections between the local markets and by partnering with industrial design experts such as Vinaccia, UNIDO conceived and implemented projects which stimulate regional growth by shifting the focus towards increasing the value of local products and resources.“For our organization, receiving a design award like the Compasso d’Oro is an extraordinary acknowledgement,” said Gerardo Patacconi, the head of UNIDO’s Agri-business Department.“It proves that design can be used as an active tool to fight poverty and generate income and resilience in countries of the Global South through new types of creative economies.”The award categories mirror the creativity of design itself. The Compasso d’Oro, founded by the Associazione per il Disegno Industriale in 1954, is awarded on the basis of an innovative approach towards the use of design, as was the case with UNIDO; product originality, such as Ferrari; or noteworthy lifetime achievements, such as James Dyson, Luciano Benetton and Ron Arad. This year, UNIDO was one of only 13 design projects chosen from over 2,000 entrants.Contact: Claire Karle - [email protected]
