Fungal skin infections (external): We don’t know if thisworks on all types of fungal skin infections, but it’s worked wellwith the types we’ve experienced here in the tropics—thosespotty, inflamed, itchy red areas under the arms or near thecrotch area where sweat collects.

Mix baking yeast with warm water (not too hot as it kills theyeast, but the temperature of a very warm bath) to form a thinpaste. Let it sit for 10 minutes and then apply to the affectedarea. It helps relieve a lot of the itchiness almost immediately.Apply three times a day or so. Wash the skin well each timebefore reapplying the yeast paste. At night before bed is also agood time, as it sits all night. After four or five days the infectionusually clears up. While visiting another Home, a dear friend of mine (mother of10), when seeing me struggling with some headaches andfatigue, suggested I take some of her iron and calcium tablets.

I felt immediate improvement, so after praying about it I decided tocontinue on a regular basis.

I made it through my next period without the usual migraine Iget, and have been feeling much stronger and healthier all around.All my life, I usually tried to get my vitamins through daily foodintake, but in recent years I have been feeling tired more quickly,with frequent headaches and the need to eat very regularly to avoidanother headache or faint feeling coming.

(From Sara D., USA:) The book summary inCCHB1, page 207, promotes pregnant womengetting 200 mg of organic iron (ie., from iron-

rich foods) daily, then goes on to say: “iron tonics andpills are dangerous solutions.” (On page 332 it saysthat yeast and blackstrap molasses are the richestsources of organic iron.) On page 78 it says that forboth the baby and mother’s sake, a pregnant womanneeds an adequate intake of iron, so a PG mom mayneed to take iron supplement tablets. On page 206 it’srecommended that PGs take 20 milligrams of iron daily,along with other vitamins. It lists other good sources ofiron as pumpkin, dried fruit, soya beans, beef brains,cabbage, whole-meal flour, brewer’s yeast, crudemolasses and liver.

Most multivitamins, whether for PGs, or for men orwomen, do contain some iron. The caution seems to beto not take too much iron daily in supplement form. Ithas also been advised to take iron supplements orvitamins containing iron several hours apart fromvitamin E, as the iron can destroy the E.

About a year ago, Istarted having sharp painson the right side of mytummy. Being so busy withthe new baby (our 6th) andthe work, I didn’t pay muchattention to it. One day,though, the pain got reallystrong, to the point that Ifainted. When I went for acheckup the doctordiagnosed, amongst otherminor problems, a cyst onmy right ovary.

It was already 6 cm big,

and the doctor asked if Iwanted to be operated on.Being on a poor field theydidn’t have advanced lasertreatment, and she sug-gested that she could insert

When I returned backhome I again asked forprayer for healing duringcommunion. I got desperateand pleaded with the Lord toheal me, because we weregoing to pioneer a new cityand I needed to be strongand healthy. This time I wasanointed with oil, andimmediately I felt likesomething cleansed me; Ifelt strengthened.

Water LevelsQ: A Russian disciple in our Home is

six months pregnant. The doctors aretelling her that she has too much liquidin her water bag, which they say meansthat she has an infection and should behospitalized. They said a normal waterbag contains about 1½ liters of water,but that she has more than that. Wenever heard this before; could you giveus some counsel? Are there any naturalways to reduce the amount of fluid?

A: Yes, a water bag can have toomuch or too little water. It is rare, andthis is probably why you haven’t heardof it. The reason for having too much ortoo little water is caused by a malfunc-tion in the placenta. These malfunctionscan be caused by many differentthings—poor nutrition, having twins,infections, fevers, incorrect placenta orcord insertion, etc.

I don’t know of any natural orartificial things you can do to change theamount of water. If there is too much,they usually try to deliver the baby,however if it’s too early in pregnancy forthat they will sometimes insert a needleand drain out the extra water. Normallyit comes right back, though, so this isn’tmuch of an option.

The reason they hospitalize themother is to keep her off her feet, tomonitor how the water level is doing andto be prepared to deliver if the needarises. I’m sorry I don’t know of anyways to reduce it other than prayer andmiracles!

Broken Bag TimeQ: In a previous column, you talked about the danger of

getting an infection from broken waters, and how it’simportant to deliver within 24 hours of the water bagbreaking. My question is: What does it involve when thebaby and/or mother gets an infection from that? Is it a bigdeal, can it be fatal, or just something that can be cleared upeasily, etc.? Like if your water bag breaks without you goinginto labor, what are you risking?

A: You risk getting an infection if the water bag isbroken for a long period of time. Doctors have said thatanything over 24 hours is more likely to get an infection. Ihave also delivered babies of sisters whose faith was to waitfor labor to come naturally, and have had broken waters for

From SGA woman, WS:My water bag broke 72 hours before I delivered

my baby. Usually they want to induce labor or give youa C-section after 24 hours is passed, because of therisk of an infection. I had the faith to continue with anatural labor, even after the first 24 hours, and theLord gave me peace about it.

Something that the nurses and midwives who werecaring for me insisted on was taking my temperatureevery hour (or more), and giving me Vitamin C everyfour hours to boost my resistance to infection. Theyagreed to my natural labor, but said that if I got atemperature or fever, which is a sign of an infection,they would deliver the baby right away.

Thank the Lord, my baby was born naturallyafter 72 hours of “broken bag time.” So it ispossible to go longer than 24 hours without gettingan infection, but it’s a personal decision to be madein counsel with the Lord, as there are very real risksinvolved.

A Time for RestQ: How long should a mother rest after giving birth?

Some mommies can hardly stand to be in bed, but I heard ofone mommy who felt great and got up two days after givingbirth. When her midwife checked on her, she told her sheshould stay in bed lying flat for five days. One person told methat for the first 10 days a mother shouldn’t get up for morethan one hour a day. Some mothers more or less rest for 40days. I know each person is different, but do you have anysuggestions as to the minimum time a mommy should restafter giving birth, if the birth was normal?

A: The suggestion I give to mothers I deliver is to taketwo weeks off as time to adjust to having a new baby, tosleep when the baby sleeps and to take extra rest. Not all thewomen took that time off. In the “Story of Techi,” Mamaonly got up to go to the bathroom during the first 10 days,but she also had a helper with Techi.

In some Homes it may be hard to give the mother a fulltwo weeks off, and to give her a full-time helper is usuallynot possible. So of course you have to balance the mother’sneeds with the Home’s ability. But I have found that motherswho took the two weeks off with their baby usually did fine.Their stitches healed well and those without stitches did wellalso. But the mothers I delivered who didn’t take the twoweeks, for whatever reason, were generally tired for the nextnine months to a year, and basically had a hard timebouncing back.

Of course, as you said, each person is different, but that’sbeen my experience. I have never heard of a mother restingfor 40 days, and in most cases I think that would be veryhard on the Home, unless the mother had an especially hardbirth such as a major hemorrhage. Even our C-sectionmothers are usually up within two to three weeks.

The water bag acts as a protectivebarrier for the baby, to guard againstgerms and diseases. Once it breaks,there is an open path into the womb forgerms; thus the time limit to deliver.There is no assurance the mother orbaby will get an infection, yet theassurance that they won’t is gone. Nowit’s like the common cold—how much doyou have to be exposed to catch a cold?For some people one sneeze is all ittakes, while others never get it. Gettingan infection from a broken water bag islike that. You might get one and youmight not; hence the need to follow theLord in each individual situation.

As far as what the dangers are—well, any infection can be mild orserious. With broken waters, you mayrun a little fever and the baby may run alittle fever and once delivered you andbaby may be all right in a very shorttime. Or if the infection has progressedto the worst scenario, the baby could dieand the mother could lose her uterus ordie also. I don’t want to scare you—that’s just the very worst case scenario.

What it really means is that, as in allyour deliveries, you just have to hearfrom the Lord each step of the way andhave the faith to act on what He tellsyou.

woman. They all decided that one person should get off because if they didn’t, the rope would break andeveryone would die.

No one could decide who should go, so finally the woman gave a touching speech, saying how shewould give up her life to save the others, because women were used to giving up things for their husbandsand children, giving in to men, and not receiving anything in return.

On May 1st I had beenhaving a sort of cramp in mystomach all afternoon. I wasseven months PG and it wasnot a big pain, so I thoughtit was just the kind ofcontractions you get towardthe end of the pregnancy.

Late that night in bed Ithought I felt my water bagbreak with a gush of water,but when I got up I saw itwasn’t water all over thebed, but blood. I was sodesperate! Anthonyimmediately phoned for anambulance; I was rushed toa nearby hospital. It wasdetermined that theplacenta had ruptured

(come away from the wallof the womb). The doctordecided on an emergencycesarean and in the nexthalf-hour, little StefanieSuzanne was born. Shedidn’t breathe at first, butthe Lord helped them tosave her life by a miracle.

We later found out thatunder the circumstances ofa ruptured placenta, thebaby hardly ever makes italive. They don’t expect it to,and usually fight for the lifeof the mother. We are sothankful that the Lord keptus both, and also for howHe prepared each step ofthe way.

I could have had more ofan idea that something waswrong had I known that in

pregnancy you’re notsupposed to have acontinual pain in yourabdomen. I realize now thatthe pains weren’t cramps,as they didn’t come on andoff, but it was a continualpain, which is a sign thatsomething is wrong. Ofcourse when I saw all theblood I knew for suresomething was wrong, sowe acted very quickly.Thank the Lord we had ahospital already booked,which made things mucheasier.

We’re so thankful for theLord’s help in this impos-sible situation, and we’reespecially thankful for littleStefanie’s life. Praise theLord!

Ruptured Placenta Miracle

This disorder is thepremature separation ofthe placenta from theuterine wall. As youalready know, the placentaimplants on the uterinewall during pregnancy andis connected to you withmany intertwining bloodvessels. These blood vessels

maintain their workingstatus until the baby isdelivered. Once the baby isdelivered the placenta willrelease itself, the connect-ing vessels will close andrecede back into theuterine lining, and bleedingwill taper off.

With a placentalabruption, the many largeblood vessels are rupturedbetween the placenta andthe uterine wall. Once this

happens bleeding can occurquickly and in largeamounts. A collection ofblood accumulates betweenthe placenta and the uterusand then forces theplacenta to furtherseparate from the wall ofthe uterus. This can be lifethreatening for bothmother and baby.

Placentaabruption is a condition inwhich the placenta separatesfrom the uterus prematurely.You’re right, this condition ismore common in mothers-to-be who smoke, do drugs, havehad an accident, or abusealcohol. Placental abruption

is also more likely to occur inmothers who are older, havehypertension, or took aspirinlate in pregnancy.

Bleeding is the main signof placental abruption, andit varies depending on theseverity of the separation.Other signs includecramping and uterinetenderness, which againvary with the severity of theabruption.

Unfortunately, in yourcase, there is no clear-cutreason for the cause of theabruption. At this point,conservatively managing thecondition with bedrest willlikely result in a goodoutcome. When theseparation is minor, bedrestusually stops the bleeding.Sometimes, in mild cases,

I did all of these things.The only one I wasn’t asfaithful with as I shouldhave been was in memoriz-ing. As my due date gotcloser I asked the Lordabout it, and He said since Iwasn’t able to memorize asmuch as I wanted to I couldmake a bunch of smallcards, each with a different

quote or verse about faithon it. He said if I read thosecards once or twice a daythe Word would be in myheart, ready to help meduring labor! So I did thisand it proved to be true!

Did you ever wonder,“Just how much exercise isenough?” When Dad told usso often to get “vigorous”exercise, what did thatmean, exactly? When we gofor a walk, to exercise, how“fast” is “fast enough”?

I’ve wondered thosethings myself, and here aresome things I’ve learnedabout getting sufficientexercise to attain andmaintain good health.

To give you a littlebackground on how this“research” came about: In1988, my children and Ireturned to the States,landing in my parents’ homefor a two-month furloughafter being overseas for 12years, the last five in India.My sweet wife had gone tobe with the Lord in 1985,so when our family returnedhome, my parents werenaturally concerned aboutour health. They offered tohelp pay 50% towards

physical exams for the kidsand myself. I hadn’t had aphysical exam in nearly 20years and the kids had neverhad a “routine” checkup.

The doctor who exam-ined me was very sweet, andhe ended up donating theentire cost of the exam. Thecheckup was unique in thatit was as much “preventa-tive medicine” as diagnosinganything wrong with me atthe time. In other words, hewas testing and analyzing—not just searching for germsand illness, but to discernany weaker or potentiallyweaker areas in my bodyand health, areas which Icould work on and try tostrengthen in order toimprove and be healthier,both then and in the future.

My general health wasgood, and the blood workshowed no disease, but hemeasured my lung capacityand strength and told me Iwas “just average” for myage and size. He said that hewanted me to go to thelibrary and check out a book

called “Aerobics,” by Dr.Kenneth Cooper, an AirForce doctor. He advised meto read it and learn what Icould do to get morevigorous exercise, whichwould improve the overallconditioning (and futurehealth) of my body.

I basically just skimmedthe book at the time, butfound the sections I readquite interesting. The gistwas, “Get more exercise[almost exactly the amountDad recommended!], andyou’ll stay healthier, behappier and live longer.”

The doctor explained thatour hearts and lungs aremuscles, and need to beexercised. In modern-dayliving, when we’re moresedentary and have littlephysical exercise throughoutthe day, we need to get outand get some significantexercise, preferably daily!The exercise needs to bevigorous—something whichgets our heart pumpingfaster and our lungsexpanding more; something

shape. It’s just too slow tobe more than minimallybeneficial, unless you do itfor a long period of time.

But if you speed up yourpace to a little over fourmiles an hour (about thefastest anyone can walk—aspeed that’s really moving,and which will get youhuffing and puffing!), inabout 40-45 minutes, justfive or six days a week,you’ll get enough exercise toget you in shape and keepyou very healthy! In otherwords, three miles an houris a casual walk and nottruly vigorous exercise. Overfour miles per hour, you’redoing some serious(vigorous) exercise! (Note:You can combine walkingand light jogging to getthese same good results!)

Caution: Don’t try doingso much exercise, or evenwalking at this speed, whenyou’re just beginning yourexercise program—especiallyif you’re out of shape andhaven’t been vigorouslyexercising regularly.

Take your time! Beginexercising moderately butregularly—even just 15 or20 minutes a day, at aslower pace, and work up toit! You should plan to takefour months to get up tospeed and endurance,especially if you’re out ofshape. Start slowly, but befaithful and increase yourspeed and/or distance a littleeach week.

The vision for this

exercise is, as I said, tostrengthen your heart andlungs. Make them strongerand more efficient inprocessing the air your bodytakes in and needs, andgetting this oxygen throughyour lungs, into your blood,and from there pumpedaround to all parts of yourbody.

Here’s an explanationfrom the book “Aerobics”:“In its simplest terms, anyactivity requires energy. Thebody produces energy byburning foodstuffs. Theburning agent is oxygen.Even down at Cape Kennedy,the rocket boosters carryfuel and an oxidizer to burnit for energy. Once they leavethe atmosphere they run outof natural oxygen, so theyhave to carry it with them.Aircraft, which stay withinthe atmosphere, use theoxygen in the air to burntheir fuel. In the body, thefuel is food and the flame isoxygen.

“Now comes the problem.The body can store food, butit can’t store oxygen. Eatingthree times a day is morethan enough for most of us;the body uses what it wantsand saves some of the restfor later. Not so withoxygen. It needs to replenishits supply constantly, so webreathe in and out everymoment of our lives to keepthe supply coming in. If thesupply were suddenly cut off,the oxygen stored in the bodywouldn’t last more than a

Sounds like a horrorstory, right? Well, it doesn’thave to be for you or yourloved ones! If you’re notexercising sufficientlyenough, pray and determineyou’re going to get in bettershape! Decide to do all youcan to ensure you and allyour Home members getregular, vigorous get-out!Here’s a few more pointsfrom the same book:

If you’d like todevelop some, if you’d like tostart back down that roadtoward physical fitness, thenget active with the kind ofexercises that will demandoxygen and force your bodyto process and deliver it. Sound good? Well, Ithink so too. And I’m tryingit. I’ve been regularlyexercising and building upmomentum over the last fivemonths, and am now able towalk/jog 3.5 miles in around40-45 minutes. My“course” is up in themountains, so I get theadded advantage of goingup and down hills in God’sbeautiful creation!

Even when I don’t feellike it, I have been forcingmyself to get out andexercise, and by the time I’minto it for about 10 minutes,I am feeling good. Seriously,it feels good! I’m notjoking.—I like it. It feelsgood to get “huffing andpuffing” and get my heartrate up. (But don’t pushyourself in the first monthsyou begin to exercise! Workinto it slowly!)

I’ll be 55 years old thisyear, and have been on the“chubbier” side for a fewyears (but I’m losing a bit ofit now)! This winter I

ow is that clear? Have I made it clear enough thistime? I don’t ever want to hear you guys againthinking that your work’s so important you can’t getsome exercise! Taking care of your body is even moreimportant than your work, in a way, because you’re

not gonna be able to work very long if you don’t take care ofyour body!

Lord, if we can paint it black enough and show them howbad it is, maybe they’ll be afraid not to obey! So we ask Youin Jesus’ Name to help them to take better care of theirbodies. We know Thy Work is important, but Thy worker iseven more important, or he’s not going to be able to worklong. So please, Lord, remind them and help them remindeach other that they must take care of themselves and theirbodies and each other as well as Thy work, or they’re notgonna make very good workers if they can’t work.

field some years ago, 42years old, overweight by 20pounds, I felt slow anddraggy. My clothes didn’t fit;there wasn’t that confidencethat usually exists when welook and feel our best. Icould hardly bend over to tiemy shoes or raise my armsabove my head to brush myhair without seeing starsand getting dizzy!

I’ve always been one wholikes exercise and beingactive, but I confess I didn’tfight hard enough to makesome exercise happen!—Fitness is a battle to befought and won!

I was one of those whousually stayed at home,intensely involved with thecare of the little ones.Watching the children causedme stress and tiredness thatcould have been eliminatedvia vigorous exercise.

After recently visiting anearby Home, I wasreminded of these familiarbattles. I asked one of thewives, “Do you get out?”She answered, “I get enoughexercise running around the

house.” Then I asked aboutthe fresh air and sunshine,and she just smiled.

Why did I ask? Well,several of the adults (alsothose who usually stayedhome) had said they werenot feeling so well. I knowhow hard it is to scheduleeveryone’s needs, but I feelso burdened for all—thechildren, the teens andyoung people, the adults andthe over-40 group!Everyone needs to take goodcare of their temple.

Look at Dad!—He set agoal for us to reach and hedid what he could to keephimself healthy. Keeping upour health could also bringa bit more closeness withothers in our life. I justbelieve that many peoplelack the conviction to takebetter care of each otherand themselves.

Since I had to find asolution to feeling andlooking better, the Lordshowed me to do exercisevideos and take walks.Isaiah, a 52-year-oldbrother, has no pot belly!Why? Well, he tells us thatevery time he takes his kids

to the park after witnessing,he finds a tree and does hisworkout on big branches.Fun! Isaiah can go out andshovel a big driveway single-handedly without gettingshort-winded, PTL! On acold day he works out for20 minutes in the basementdoing leg lifts, chin ups, etc.

I’m a mother of eight,and a grandmother as well,with a great desire to keepgoing for the Lord. Iexercise for an hour or walkfor the groceries orwhatever is needed regularly.I’m still 10 poundsoverweight, but I feel goodand am now able to keep upwith the daily workload—with energy to spare!

I’d like to encourageothers to do what they can tofight for this area of theirlives, and that of thosearound them. It’s said that 4-6 hours a week of vigorousexercise will cause you to loseweight; to maintain goodhealth, just 3-4 hours a weekare needed. At that rate itseems amazingly little time isneeded to support andstrengthen the temple of theHoly Ghost!

For some people awarning sign when they’regetting run down or theyaren’t getting the nutrientsthey need is that their hairstarts falling out or it stopsgrowing. So one of the firstthings to try is to eat well,rest well, and make sureyou’re taking good care ofyour body with God’s simplehealth laws: Eat right, sleepright, exercise right, liveright, love right. Thosemight sound very elementaryand that they don’t affect

your hair much, but the factof the matter is that they do,because your hair can’t behealthy if your body’s nothealthy. Even if you don’t seeit manifested in other ways,if your body is run down,your hair won’t be healthy.It won’t grow; it won’t beable to produce enough cellsto keep replenishing itselfand the ones that fall out.

Of course there areother things that you cando, like making sure theshampoo you use is not too

harsh, because althoughthat doesn’t affect thegrowth of your hair, it doesaffect the quality of the hairthat’s there. Like I said,once hair is damaged itcan’t repair itself, it has tojust grow out. So if theshampoo is too harsh anddamages your hair, thenthat’s pretty sad. It getsruined very easily.

Brushing your hair isvery good for it, starting atthe scalp and brushingdown, and that is one thingthat helps it to grow. Itstimulates your scalp, getsthe blood circulating andhelps the little follicleswhere the hair comes out tobe strong and healthy. Itmassages them, brings the

blood to them and that doeshelp your hair to grow. Italso strengthens the rootsof your hair so that theydon’t fall out as easily. Soone thing you can do— giveyour hair a good brush. Butyou also need to make surethat your brush is goodquality, and isn’t going todamage your hair.

Another thing that’sgood for your hair is Bvitamins. That comes in allforms of course, but one ofthe easiest is brewer’s yeast.

There are lots of simple,God-made remedies around,and some of them you canlook up in books, too. Justbe prayerful and spirit-ledas you apply them. Mostimportantly of all, eat rightand rest right and live right,and your hair will grow.

When you’re young it iseasier for your hair to growand replenish itself thanwhen you get older. Themore tired your body gets,the more difficult it is for itto produce things likebeautiful hair. So take goodcare of your body whenyou’re young, so that whenyou get older your body’snot completely burnt out,run dry, like a dead battery.Because even though youmight be able to maintainand keep working andwalking around when you’reolder, regardless of how youtook care of your body whenyounger, certain parts ofyour body will just shutdown if they haven’t beenmaintained and taken careof—your hair won’t grow sowell anymore, certain partsof your body won’t functionas well. So it all starts intaking care of yourself whileyou’re young.

Okay? Those are just afew tips, but the mostimportant thing is to bethankful and content forwhat the Lord has givenyou. And a praiseful,thankful attitude actuallyaffects your physicalhealth.

A: The bad news is thatyou can’t get rid of yourpores, and you can’tpermanently change theirsize. This is a myth, alongwith the notion that poressomehow open and close—they don’t. Your pore size ishereditary, meaning that ifyour parents have largepores, it’s very possible thatyou will, too.

Pores also appear openand enlarged when they arefull of oil or debris. Whenthe pore is clean and free ofexcess oil and dirt, itappears closed. Cleansers,toners, and masks can only

temporarily tighten theskin, making the poresappear smaller but notreally changing them at all.Sorry!

The good news is thatthere are products you canuse and techniques you cantry to make your poresappear smaller and lessvisible. The effects aretemporary, but can makeyour skin look smoother atleast for a short time.

♦ Just about any clayfacial mask will clean yourskin and make it feel tighterand the pores appearsmaller.

♦ Keep your skin clean.This doesn’t mean excessivewashing or scrubbing(cleanse twice a day, gently

scrub only once or twice aweek), but at least makesure to remove all yourmakeup and wash your faceevery night before you go tobed, and avoid cosmeticsand skin care products thatmake your skin break out(the products that do can bedifferent for everybody).

♦ Use makeup assparingly as possible. Heavyfoundations can settle inyour pores and makealready large pores appearlarger by caking on the skin.Be meticulous in yourapplication: apply founda-tion with a clean makeupsponge and blend carefullyfor a smooth, even finish. Ifyou apply powder, use alarge fluffy brush and besure to dust off any excessfrom your skin.

♦ Keep your makeuptools, like sponges andbrushes, very clean. Anybacteria, oil, or dirt theymay carry can settle in yourpores every time you applymakeup. I recommendwashing your brushes everytwo weeks in a mild hairshampoo or brush cleaner,and sponges as soon as allsides are dirty (also in amild liquid soap or sham-poo).

Cold water does not close large pores and can actuallyirritate the skin. In fact, there are no muscles around the porewalls, so they cannot open and close. Pores remain the samesize. Pores look bigger to the eye only because dead skin cells,dirt and oil are trapped within each pore. To make the size of thepores less noticeable, rinse with tepid water (which makes skinfeel tighter) but not with cold water. By the same token, hotwater does not open up pores. Warm water (not hot, which istoo irritating to skin) hydrates the skin, and cleanses it.

Tip: Rinse the skin with lukewarm water some twenty timesafter washing. This will clean the skin of any cleansing materialand will hydrate it. Blot gently with a clean, damp washcloth.

Avoid the eyes,as it could sting. Rub gentlyfor about two minutes thenrinse with first warm andthen cold water. This workswonders on skin that haspimples or blackheads.

Sunflower Milk FaceCleanser:

This is good for removingmakeup and is generallygood for dry skin, not oilyskin. Put 1 tablespoon ofmilk in a small container orsaucer. Next take somecotton and soak up the milk,then gently squeeze it out.

Now moisten the cotton ballwith some sunflower oil.Clean your face with this,rinse with warm water, thendry your face.

Chamomile Milk FaceCleanser:

Here’s a great way to useup chamomile teabagsbefore you throw themaway. Simply dip the teabagin a little bit of warm milkand use this to clean yourface. Again, rinse first withwarm then cold water.

Honey-Apple Facial:This is good for all skin

types. Grate an apple and mixit with 1 tablespoon of honey.Apply to face, neck and chestarea (if desired). Let sit for20 minutes then rinse withwarm water. Applied to thebreasts it helps make the skinfirm, giving the appearance offirmer breasts. Rememberthat when doing facials youneed to relax, so your poresare open. (Take the chance tolie down and listen to a Wordtape or hear from the Lord.)

Flour-Egg White Peeling:This one is good for

enlarged pores and greasyskin. It’s best done after youhave washed your face andneck with warm water. Mix

one egg white with a teaspoonof flour. Apply and let sit for15 minutes. Peel off and rinsewith warm water. (This recipemakes more than is neededfor one time, but you can saveit for about three days, orshare it with a friend.)

Banana-Honey Facial:Great for aging or dry

Chinese Fried Meat with Beans1 kg. beef or lamb8 tbsp. soy sauce4 tbsp. cornstarch1 kg. green beans8 tbsp. oil2 tsp. salt4 tbsp. sherry (or other cooking wine)8 tbsp. stock or water

Beef and Noodle Casserole6 ounces egg noodles1 pound ground beef2 (10.75 ounce) cans condensed tomato soup*2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce2 cloves garlic, minced1/2 pound shredded Cheddar cheese1/4 cup dry sherry1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese(*Or, replace this with: 2 cups tomato paste, ¾ cup

milk and 2 tablespoons sugar.)

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).2. Cook the noodles according to package directions.3. Meanwhile, brown the ground beef in a large

skillet over medium high heat. Stir in the tomato soup,Worcestershire sauce and garlic. Bring to a boil, thenreduce heat to low and let simmer.

4. When noodles are done, stir them and the cheeseinto the simmering sauce until cheese is melted. Stir thesherry into the sauce and stir for 1 minute, then place ina casserole dish and sprinkle with the Parmesan cheeseto taste.

5. Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes.

Tester’s notes: This is a great, simple crowd-pleaser.You’ll love it! Feel free to omit some of the minoringredients if they are unavailable. Be creative! Havefun! Happy eating!

Crockpot Chinese Beef1. Brown beef cubes or strips

in pan and dredge in flour, thenput in the crockpot.

2. Add ¼ cup soy sauce foreach pound of meat.

3. Grate a few teaspoons ofginger root and dice green onions(or use regular onions if theothers aren’t available) finely.(Note that the flavor getsstronger than normal withcrockpot cooking.)

4. Cook on low setting for 5-8 hours, until meat is verytender.

5. About two hours beforeserving, add veggies (can usecarrots, green beans, beansprouts, or whatever you like.—Bean sprouts need very littlecooking time!)

6. If desired, add salt to tasteonce it has finished cooking.(Adding it to the meat before it’sfully cooked can make it tough.)

1. Cut the meat into thin shreds about thewidth of the green beans and about 1 ½ inches inlength. Mix together the soy sauce and corn flour,then marinate the pieces of meat in it for about10 minutes.

3. Heat half the oil in a wok or frying pan andstir fry the meat for about a minute or untillightly colored, then remove and set aside.

4. Heat the remaining oil and stir fry thebeans for about 1 minute, then add the meat, saltand sherry. Blend well together and add a littlestock or water if necessary, but do not overcook,otherwise the beans will lose their crispiness andthe meat its tenderness.

How to Freeze and Serve Mashed PotatoesFrom Busy Cooks’ Guide

1. Prepare mashed potatoes in your favorite manner.2. Place prepared mashed potatoes in freezer bags in

meal-sized portions (or, if larger portions are desired, inlarger plastic bags).

3. Press all the air from the bags and seal.4. Flatten freezer bags and place in freezer for storage.5. To serve, first defrost in the refrigerator overnight.6. Remove potatoes from freezer bag and place in a

microwave-safe bowl. Don’t be alarmed if they look thinand runny.

7. Heat mashed potatoes in the microwave, covered,stirring every 2 minutes. As the potatoes get hot, they willthicken and return to their original texture.

Soaking Brown Rice Enriches

Soaking brown rice for a day before it is cooked may bean inexpensive and easy way to turbocharge the nutritionalvalue of this staple food, Japanese scientists have found.

Soaking the rice stimulates the early stages of germina-tion, when a tiny sprout, less than a millimeter tall, growsfrom the grain. “The birth of a sprout activates dormantenzymes in the brown rice all at once to supply the bestnutrition to the growing sprout,” said Dr. HiroshiKayahara, a professor at Shinshu University in Nagano.

Sprouted rice contains more fiber, vitamins andminerals than non-germinated rice, Kasayara and hiscolleagues report. The germinated rice also contains triplethe amount of lysine, an amino acid needed for the growthand repair of tissues, and 10 times more gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which can benefit the kidneys.

The researchers soaked the brown rice in warm waterfor 22 hours to make it sprout. The sprouted rice is notonly enriched, it is also easier to cook because the hardouter husk has been softened, Kayahara noted, and ittastes sweeter. White rice will not sprout when soaked, headded.
