Evaluation Task 7

Evaluation task 7 in this task I will talk about what I have learnt from my preliminary task to the final piece. I will talk about both the filming, editing and equipment side of things. the framing of the preliminary task- The framing of my preliminary task was not up to a very good standard. During filming we did not focus on the framing of the piece. We included things such as people who weren't meant to be in the scenes and a lot of the time we included more background than necessary which ultimately damaged the feel of the piece. An example of this framing issue is where the camera man had his leg in the shot meaning that the enticing reality of the shot was severely damaged. We learnt that we should watch the piece back and see what the camera is showing before actually shooting the scene in order to get the best framing possible. This made the piece a lot more realistic and it did not disturb the illusion of the story.

Evaluation task 7

in this task I will talk about what I have learnt from my preliminary task to the final piece.

This made the piece a lot more realistic and it did not disturb the illusion of the story.

fish eye effect- The fish eye effect is the biggest issue with our preliminary task because it gives everything a circular effect which detracts from the reality of the piece. The fact that we filmed it on a

go-pro meant that we could not change the filming style of the piece. We believe that the fish eye effect stopped the piece being dramatic and made it more comical. The lesson we learnt from the fish eye incident is that we should not film anything on a go-pro unless we want the effect that it offers as a first person. We didn't use the go-pro for our final piece as we did not want to have the fish eye effect because there was no need for it.

depth of field- With our preliminary task we had very little depth of field, this effected the overall cinematic of the piece meaning that it was less believable as there was no focus variability. Everyone was the same kind of distance from the camera which made the piece feel staged and unrealistic. Whereas with the final piece we made sure that we had a realistic depth of field which made the piece more cinematic resulting in a better overall piece because of the fact that we can vary the focus. We spent a lot of time deciding where the right places were for people to stand in order to get the best depth of field.

wider range of editing effects (pace, filters)- When comparing the use of effects between our preliminary task and our final piece there is an obvious difference. With the preliminary task we used very simplistic editing which is obvious when watching the piece. We edited the piece without any effects which let the piece down. With our final piece we spent a lot more time on the editing of the piece. We used filters such as black and white to make the piece seem classy and timeless. We also used the editing to vary the pace of the piece by making titles last less or ore time depending on how we wanted to change the piece.

research side of things- With the research side of things there is almost no comparison. For our preliminary task we did almost no research besides watching the bad boys films. We had not researched the genre, style or anything that would have been relevant to our piece. The group did the complete opposite when we did our final piece. We watched many film openings and researched the genre well and we made sure we used that research when filming our piece. This made our piece a lot more conventional and the research helped us a lot when it came to how we filmed the piece.

use a wide range of applications- For our preliminary task we did not use many applications. We used final cut pro and YouTube. The two applications made our marks suffer as we did not use enough things to make the piece good enough. With our final piece we used Imovie, final cut pro, YouTube. This meant that we had a wider range of tools that were available for us to make the piece as good as possible. This is evident in our final task because we used a lot of editing techniques and filters which made the piece as good as it is.

organisation  refer to blog- there was little effort put into the organisation of the piece when we were making the preliminary task. This is evident by how few posts there were about the task.

Page 5: Evaluation Task 7

This meant that due to the lack of organisation the piece as a whole suffered because there was no storyboard or shooting schedule which means that we did not work as hard as we could have in order to keep to a schedule. With our final piece we had a set shooting schedule  and story board so we knew what we had to do in order to finish in time and this meant that we worked hard and really capitalized on each others strengths. We also did a lot more organisational work with our blogs making sure that they were updated regularly in order to keep the grades up.

understanding of the production process planning and story boarding- With the preliminary task we did not have much understanding of the production process and we also did not understand how important the production process is to making a good piece. We did not plan for our preliminary task which resulted in us "winging it" which made the piece patchy and unfollowable. We also did not have a story board which meant that we did not have a set idea for the piece meaning that it took like three different routes before deciding on a decision. With our final piece we understood the production process a lot better and made sure that we planned the piece and created a story board  before we even started filming our piece. We planned in detail what we were gonna do by sitting down and brainstorming ideas resulting in us all having a clear image of what the piece is going to look like at the end of the process.
