How does your film represent particular social groups?

By Will Smith

Representations of men

In my film, men are shown in more ways than one because the protagonist ‘Jordan’ who is the main

character is shown to have less power than his girlfriend who is really demanding and controlling. This modern representation of men shows ‘Jordan’ to have emotion

and that helps the audience to feel sorry for him. Then the antagonist ‘Tony’ has tradition representations because he is shown as being powerful, emotionless and strong. This

contrast of man representations help the audience to decide who is the good and bad in the film.

Representations of womenThere’s only one woman in my film

opening and she is shown to be aggressiveand controlling. This modern

representation of women means the audience will know that she is not a nice person since she is the dominant one in

the relationship. Also by her being aggressive towards ‘Jordan’ shows that he

is submissive.

Mise En Scene Both the gangsters are wearing zipped up coat with jeans, this type of costume

shows that they are maybe lower class but with evidence of higher class because they aren't just wearing tracksuits which has a connotation of lower class and

chavy. So the costumes have elements of both lower and upper class. The costume of ‘Stacey’ presents her as being ‘a chav’. She wears big hoop earrings, her hair

up, no makeup and a long green coat. The lighting when ‘Jordan’ is thrown into the back of the van is dark as he is looking out because it creates more of a dark

atmosphere as he is being forced to work illegally.

Titles

I added freeze frames to my film because it adds more of a connection to each character and it depicts them in one picture for example; ‘Stacey’ is shown slapping ‘Jordan’ this shows their relationship within two pictures as she is the aggressive one and he is the submissive one. Also ‘Tony’ is

shown with a toothpick in his mouth and looking down on the camera, this shows that he is also an aggressive character.

Conclusion

Overall, I think that I've shown not just one representation of men I've shown both modern and traditional. Also I think the characters and location fit genre that I

inspired to create.
