“A narrative pattern of establishing enigmas which the view expects to be
resolved”
This close up shot gives the letter
narrative significance and
creates an enigma to what this letter could contain or mean to this character. If the viewer is
already aware of the illuminati they will recognize the emblem on the
letter is their logo and will make them have a vague idea of
what is going on.
“Extraordinary events happening in ordinary
situations”This shot here
establishes a rough location of this
scene, and because you can see traffic moving behind it
gives the idea that this is happening in
a normal urban area. This ties in
well with this convention and
makes the audience feel more comfortable with the scene as it is
(at the moment) a very normal scene
and something they can relate to
“A protagonist who is systematically dis-empowered and drawn into a complex
web of intrigue by the antagonist”
This close up shot shoes
Barack Obama, from the scenes before you know that this is what was in the letter and also know that something
is going to happen to him from the black
lines across peoples eyes.
Because of these letters and who is
sending them the character has no choice
but to adhere to there
instructions, leaving him
helpless and dis-empowered.
“A crime at the core of the narrative”
This close up shot of our character
drawing a line over a mans eyes hints to the audience that there is something definitely suspicious
going on and most likely a crime. This is also back up
by the fact this man is not the only one and you can see others to the
left of his hand in this shot.
“Mise en scene which echoes/mirrors the
protagonist’s plight”This over the
shoulder shot of the character washing his
faces shows how he is dressed,
you can also see this in the first scene, the way he is dressed
suggests he is a businessman
and may make audience think that because of
his work this might be the reason for the letters. It also suggests that
maybe whatever was in the letter he was ready for and that he is a
man that likes to dress smartly whenever he
can.
“A scene in which the protagonist is in peril”
This reaction shot would
suggest that whatever was in the letter has shocked him and was
also something he
was not expecting and
could be something
that would put him or others in danger. The
reaction to this event in this frame
shows that he might also be questioning what it is he has received.
