Evaluation questions 3&4

Q3: What have you learned from your audience feedback ?

The complimentary audience feedback I received from the my short film were:

Good range of camera angles The establishing sequence was good Good graphics the use of the BFI and etc in the beginning of the shot

The criticisms:

I could not understand the genre straight awayShould have looked more at the house, the characterisation of the main character Harry The lighting in the forest The r’n’b music in the beginning was very loud needs adjustment because it disturbs the narrativeThe Chinese whispers scene was black and white and looks like a flashback

Q3 continuedFrom the feedback given the criticisms made make me rethink some of the ideas to :

• Expand the exposition and give more of characterisation of the character but given the time limit of 5 minutes we found it difficult enough to cut and edit the film we had already had.

• Firstly the idea of the Chinese was meant to be very quick and with very tense music to show who the spreading of lies from other people can become out of control. However it was very difficult finding the right music. And with advice given my Editor made the choice of making that scene black and white, but disagree and also think it looks like a flashback and if I could change it I would try and find different music.

• The lighting of forest that we had was very had to achieve especially during that time of the year. We went to film in the woods three times and we had to artificial light to make it as visible as possible but it was hard and we only used the HD when we went there the last time but it still was not enough. But as a team we should have filmed the location with a HD camera in the first place.

• The Genre of the film which was horror/ thriller was mainly shown towards the ending of the film this was done because the horror was mainly to be shown in the assault of Harry and the thriller was to be directed throughout with the use of characterisation. If I could go back I would have developed the presentation of the character. The ring of the antagonist, the girl was meant to be the focus that’s why at the end when the assault happens the ring of the girl is placed in the hands of Harry.

Q4: How did you use technologies in the construction and research , planning and evaluations stages?

• To help me during the research and planning the use of blogger and slideshare helped me organise everything and it was quick and easy to use. However other technologies such as Prezi were not the best presentations to use.

• Also other difficult technologies I used were Photoshop and Indesign which I had demonstrated last year in doing my coursework. The experience I had made it easier to use but because I had not used it in a while it was diffcult at first.

• The use of the camera was quite straightforward and easy to use and the Editor in our team felt comparable to using Final cut to edit.
