Transcript of Evaluation question two
It was always a main priority of
ours to make sure our video and
ancillary products matched, and
achieved what we intended of
them.To do this we had to consider the
conventions, and whether we wanted them to adhere to the conventions or not. We had to consider colour, mise-en-scene and the general theme of the products.
Romance is probably the most common theme throughout our products. It is a theme that was not originally intended, but naturally
happened during the filming of the video, and we then made it a theme that would be in the ancillary products, too.
The video is about a teenaged boy who
has a desire for a girl. From this we
decided to make romance an
unconventional theme in our products. So
we decided to incorporate a rose (an
iconic signifier of romance) into our
ancillary products, as well as the colour
red which has connotations of love.
With the romance theme I feel
that we could have explored it
further in the music video, we
exploited it well in the ancillary
products but not as well as we
could have done in the video I feel the relationship between our male protagonist and the female
could have been more obvious, due to filming problems at the time we didn’t get enough of the female,
meaning the romantic theme is not as apparent as it is in the ancillaries.
‘Sex, Drugs & Pop Punk’ is the title for
our album. We believe this brings back
the conventional element to our product
because drugs are an unfortunate
stereotype to the teenaged demographic
and sex can have hedonistic connotations
– another stereotype of youth.
And with this seemingly youthful album name we link back to the music video, which we feel is stereotypically teenaged. It shows a party, it shows fun, it shows hedonism and it shows teenaged romance.
Overall I think our video and
ancillary’s correspond with each
other quite well, even though
there could be improvements:
• A stronger theme of red in the video, to match the colour of the ancillary’s.
• More shots of the female character, to make the narrative more obvious.
• Male protagonist holding roses in opening sequence, to suggest romance.
So any changes made would be to the video, we are satisfied that our ancillary products have the effect that we want them to.
