QUESTION SIX
What have you learnt about technologies from the
process of constructing this product?
![Page 2: Evaluation question Six- Technologies](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022071813/55a4587d1a28ab741b8b462e/html5/thumbnails/2.jpg)
IN THE PAST
Before constructing my magazine, I had little knowledge and experience with different editing software. I mostly used an older version of Photoshop (Cs5) to do vey basic corrections such as brightening and contrasting images. I wasn’t keen on adding multiple layers or using different tools such as the clone tool. Now I am confident, I can use Photoshop (Cs6) to a great amount, I can colour correct, by using effects like ‘replace colour’ and use several layers to create eye catching and dynamic visuals. I have also managed to work Adobe InDesign, a program that I had never used once, to create in line layouts and neat text. By looking up tutorials on YouTube I had found out many ways of making creative pieces of work. In particular, I found the ‘clipping path tool’ the most beneficial. It allowed me to remove backgrounds on images to emphasise a certain part. With the aid of Photoshop Cs6 and Adobe InDesign, my magazine products have turned out great!

PHOTOSHOP CS6
With the aid of Photoshop Cs6, I have managed to
create a eye catching and creative front cover. The
initial image of the model had a background. I was able
to remove it with the magic wand tool and the eraser.
This allowed me to adjust the image to my desired
size. However this left the image looking un natural on
the edges, which is why I added pretty designs to cover
up. Another useful technique was by double clicking on
a layer which would allow you to choose several effect
options such as Stroke. This allowed me to put borders
on images and text to make them bright and bold.
Photoshop is the main software that I used to
create my magazine products. I used this for the
entire Front cover and Contents page. This
allowed me to make colourful and high quality
pictures that I couldn’t achieve on InDesign.
For my front cover I
had to use several
layers in order to
create a dynamic
piece of work. A full
composition is a
trait of Japanese
magazines.

PHOTOSHOP CS 6 CONTINUED
The contents page was also created on Photoshop. Again I used several
layers to create an attractive layout. I also add a Glow effect on the text to
make them readable as well as cute. I also found out how to
‘replace colour’, this allowed me
to adjust any shade, white in
particular, as I could create the
doll like skin on my model, a
trend in Japan! I also used
Photoshop to edit the images
used on my double page spread
since InDesign cannot adjust
images such as brightening or
contrasting.
Here I have edited the iconic YouTube barrier
onto my image, this is to make it look like an
actual video clip.

ADOBE INDESIGN
Apart from editing the images on Photoshop, I used InDesign to create
my DPS entirely. This software allowed me to create in line text and use a
variety of fonts to bring out the quirkiness and femininity. A useful tool
called the ‘clipping path’ allowed me to remove backgrounds from images.
By knowing this I could make my model’s pictures pop out. This creates a
fun feel towards the magazine.
Again, another useful finding was
the transform option, which allowed
me to create bolder titles like
‘Amie-Lia’

PREZI PRESENTATIONS & SLIDESHARE
I have use these two
applications to expand my
evaluation answers.
I had only used Prezi
presentation once. Which I did
not even complete! However I
am confident in using this type
of technology as I have used it
for one of the questions (see
Q3) In my opinion, its like a
fantastic way of creating an
exciting PowerPoint!
Slideshare is an application to
upload media like PowerPoint. I
have used this for question one as
well as this question. Although it is
not as creative as watching the
PowerPoint itself, Slideshare
allows me to embed this answer
into my blog.

AUDACITY & SOUNDCLOUD
I recorded females between 14 and 17 and asked
them questions relevant to the overall evaluation
question (see Q2) By using audacity I could edit
the sound, for example I cropped away the ‘uhhhs’
and ‘ahhhs’ to make the response more coherent.
I uploaded the files onto SoundCloud, which is an
application that allows me to post multiple
recordings in one go.

POWER DIRECTOR 9This software is by far my most
favourite. I used this to edit my music
video (see Q4) I wanted to convey
what Japanese music actually is to
non JPOP lovers. This was a long
process as it required patience to
make each footage clip on beat and
relevant to the music.
The software comes
with a variety of
premade effects and
transitions. The hard
part is selecting the
right footage to use!
