EVALUATION – QUESTION 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of

constructing this product?

TECHNOLOGYThroughout the planning and production of my magazine I have used different forms of technology, for some it was a case of starting from scratch and learning how to use them and others were there for improving my product. These were:

• Photoshop• Canon 600D• Blogger

• Facebook messenger• Lighting

• Microsoft PowerPoint • Slideshare

PHOTOSHOP

I had not used Photoshop before not even for my preliminary task (where I used Microsoft Publisher), so to get to grips with the basics I watched many beginner’s guides tutorials. From those I was able to create my production with skills such as airbrushing images, contrasting backgrounds and styling text.

CANON 600D

Having never used a Canon before I watched tutorials to learn how to change things such as the aperture and shutter speed so I could achieve the best quality photos for my product. Having used an IPhone 5c camera for my preliminary task I was able to compare the quality of the photos taken on the Canon 600D for my production and by far the sharpness of the production photos was much better which was something I wanted to achieve after having done my preliminary.

BLOGGER, SLIDESHARE, FACEBOOK MESSENGER

BLOGGER: This was my first time using blogger and I found it very easy to use and an organised way of displaying all of my research and development of my production. SLIDESHARE: Slideshare was useful for embedding my PowerPoints (used to display research) onto my blog, the process was easy and quick. FACEBOOK MESSENGER: I used Facebook messenger to communicate with my focus group, it made it easy to contact my focus group and is also free to download meaning it was easily accessible to my focus group.

LIGHTING

For my front cover and double page spread images I used a softbox and a brownline light, other images were taken in an area well lit by natural daylight. Softbox: create even and diffused light by directing light through diffusing material, or by "bouncing" light off a second surface to diffuse the light.Brownline: Includes a power pack, light units and soft boxes

MICROSOFT POWERPOINTI am very familiar with PowerPoint so I had no difficulty with using it, I found it to be the best way to present my research where I could have large scale images and surrounding text. It was also easy to publish the PowerPoints onto my blog through slide share.
