Evaluation question 4
Transcript of Evaluation question 4
Profile of my typical target audience:
Demographically
Age: 16-21 years old, allow for just younger or just older
Class: Middle class, upper working class. Not upper class as my magazine is
supposed to be aimed at the glossy magazine lovers, but it’s not a ‘Vogue’ or
‘Elle’ comparison. More like AB as core audience, with C1C2 as my wider target
audience.
Gender: Female, the magazine is aimed at the niche in the market for a music
magazine aimed at young women, who indulge in typical girly things, such as
shopping, not for the metal heads that can read NME and be satisfied.
Psychographics
Taste in music: Dance, chart music, not heavy metal or rock. Chilled,
mainstream, everyday music that you would find on kiss or heart radio.
TV choice: programmes that give you extra gossip such as x-tra factor, Piers
Morgan life stories, reality TV. Typical teenage girl and young women
Question 4: Who would be the audience of your product?
For young girls who fantasise about x-factor contestants and
want to know as much about them as they can.
For an audience that already reads
magazines such as closer and ok, and
want something a little more music
related as well, because that
category is where their favourite
celebrity lies, e.g.Rihanna.
Girls/women that like to know what’s going on will be the audience for this magazine. Those that like to
update their phones and iPods with music that’s the latest in the charts to be in the know with their
friends. Women that like to be up to date and organised, ahead of schedule.
programmes also, chick flick films and romantic comedies. This is very much
stereotyped on the fact of women being girly girls.
Life style choices: Shopping, majority will still be at college, so in their spare
time hanging out with friends. Like the pictures show, women that indulge in
socialising with their friends after work rather than going home alone and
having an early night. Shopping online is preferred;these are the people that
are mainstreamers, not those who like to buy something just to look cool or fit
in (aspires). My audience buys what satisfies them.
All of the demographic and psychographic information was obtained from
questionnaires about lifestyle choice and opinions and facts of my target
audience in my audience research. I used that to conduct a database of which I
could make a set target audience to create my products around instead of
predicting something an audience of some sort would like. This way I could
compare and contrast existing magazines for that particular audience and
make a profile on them like I’ve done here.
This particular audience would buy my magazine because it aimed at middle
class; it’s a glossy magazine so it doesn’t look cheap. All women between 16-
21, at some point in their lives look at a newsstand and choose the magazine
that looks the best out of a certain selection, and this magazine product falls
straight into that profile. It’s affordable for the middle class and mainstreamers
that its aimed at, as in my audience research I found out that mostly their
income is spent on shopping items or items of leisure or existing magazines. In
my research my target audience said that they did have disposable income to
spend, so it’s likely they will able to afford this magazine. Also the audience as
a product to publishers and advertisers will be attractive as there are many
make-up, clothing, and music, elements of brands and items that can be
advertised in this magazine. They won’t just be selling the magazine, but also a
lot of products on the advertising side of things. The magazine is very girly and
content filled like the competing magazines and comparable magazines. It’s
filled with gossip and fashion and women and girls love to gossip and go
shopping, it’s a perfect magazine.
