Q.4I used YouTube to research different soap trailers to work out which

genre was best suited for my target audience.

Hollyoaks

Eastenders

Coronation Street

Q.4After looking through British soap trailers, I decided to look at the

contrast of American soaps, also using YouTube.

E4 Style Guide

Q.4

Once I had chosen to use the conventions of Hollyoaks I then researched more on the internet and began to look through the E4 style guide to be able to mimic the style as closely

as possible.

I particularly used the colour guide within this style guide to match the colour of my title cards precisely to the E4 style.

YouTube- Music Selection

Q.4I also used YouTube to search for a song that I could use within my trailer.

I knew the style of music which I wanted to use for my trailer because I knew the mood and emotion I would like to portray so I began to look for slow, meaningful

songs and artists, searching through my iPod artists.

Once looking through different artists, I realised that Christina Perry was the perfect collaboration for my soap trailer. It really portrays the mood of my trailer and emotions are high in the song, just

like in my soap, Jar of Hearts.

Q.4The website I used most to

find all of my information was Google.

It really helped me with my research about soap genres and what is conventional in

different types of soap.

Before the planning for my soap opera trailer began, I did an

extended research project looking at the brand identity of Eastenders. To

do this I had to use BBC iPlayer.

Blogger

Page 15: Evaluation Question 4

Q.4In able to keep all of my planning materials and evaluation together, I developed a blog over the period of producing my coursework product.

This blog helped to keep all of my pieces of work together and organised. By

keeping a blog I could easily edit my work and I could always access it easily from

wherever I had internet access.

The blog was a form of social network which meant that my classmates were able to comment on my work and also

see me work as I was uploading it to my blog. This was useful because they were able to give me advice whether it be in

person, or commented on my blog.

Q.4I intended to make my blog unique, and portray my own personality,

whilst mirroring the personality of my soap opera.

1. My first step was to arrange the page how I would like it to appear to viewers of my blog. By doing this, I already created individuality for myself because I didn’t

use the automated page layout.

2. I then had to choose Template Designer to change the background of my blog and to also change advanced settings such as text colour,

font, size etc.

3. Once opening the Template Designer, I was able to select the template which I wanted to apply to my blog. I decided to choose the Travel template, and then

the first option with the picture as the background.

Page 18: Evaluation Question 4

Q.44. I then opened the Background option to be able to

change my background image.

5. I then selected the background image out of the

Hobbies & Crafts section, which I thought would suit my blog. The image is quite bold which is what my soap

is. However the image contrasts with my soap

because it is bright colours whereas my soap is quite dark. I thought this would

work nicely, though, because it is a good contrast and

makes the page easy to look at.

Facebook

Q.4When designing a script, a member of our filming group created the script

and posted it into a joint message on Facebook for us all to be able to access. We decided that this would be the easiest method because we thought if

people don’t have access to a mobile phone or they have no money to text, everyone has a computer which they can access and be able to read

Facebook messages.

The messages were instant so whenever we sent/received messages, we knew how quick it would be sent to another group member. This was useful because it meant we were

able to learn lines straight away.

Twitter

Q.4Another aspect of social media which I used was Twitter.

Twitter allowed me to have a live connection with my media tutor so she could help with progression and I could keep her updated as to how far I had got with my work.

I was able to share links with Sheena this way to my YouTube uploads so she could see my

progress.

Page 23: Evaluation Question 4

Q.4

I also used Twitter when filming our soap trailer to share with Sheena images from our filming.

By using social networking to keep in contact with Sheena, it allowed direct

and instant contact to her, wherever we were.

This was extremely helpful because it meant that if I needed help on

something urgently whilst I wasn’t in college, I knew I could tweet her and

she would receive it to her phone almost instantly.
