Evaluation Question 4How did you use new media

technologies in the construction and research, planning and

evaluation stages?

Media TechnologiesNew media technologies have helped me through all

stages of my prosecution of my magazine going from reachable and planning to the evaluation stages of

my product. By using these I have improved my knowledge on these products and can therefore

produce more professional and creative products.

During ResearchDue to my textual analysis I came out with an

improved outlook of how professional products should look and be like therefore the new

technologies I was introduced to would be my key into replicating features and conventions of these products. Practicing these technologies have lead me to portray my chosen genre appropriately and

shown me the extent I'd have to go to meet the level of authenticity.

BloggerBlogger had helped me through the entire process

of the product production, in such ways as organizing my posts to keep on track of what I've

done and what I have to do next. I know all the features has to offer and therefore I can get more

out of this technology such as creating more interactive blog posts and the HTML ability had allowed me to bring in even more technologies

into my blog posts showing a variety of skills.

Power PointUsing PowerPoint has allowed me to present my

ideas in a different way other than a blog post such as more creatively to demonstrate my work

in a more ascetically pleasing way and get my point across better. Also it shows off different

skills when evaluating to show my capabilities on a range of different software. PowerPoint also

allows you to go into further detail as it doesn't come across as text heavy.

Photo BoothHaving Photo booth on the iMacs has enabled me

to keep my blogger updated by my current thoughts and make it more personal. It allowed

me to give back feedback on the point of the project I was or am at. I could create discussions about my future intentions with the products. In addition was also helpful when getting others to

give me feedback as they didn't have to answer to anyone therefore gave me more reliable feedback.

IMacsOn such Microsoft software I was unable to

access efficiently such programs like Photoshop and Final cut express therefore

using an iMac allowed me to get a larger amount of work done as and keep up to date.

The transition from Microsoft to Apple was quite drastic but I found that I got use to it

easily and was helpful that it had all the software needed to complete my products.

PreziI found Prezi a very professional tool when sharing my ideas as I could include very detailed information in a

simplistic and easily manageable format. Also the features where I could include images, videos and links

to other website was also useful in making it more interactive and therefore adding more detail, making

each Prezi not only useful to myself but others too. Prezi being a moving PowerPoint it was especially useful in my research and planning and throughout my evaluation as it helped me get through my points easily then come to a solid conclusion. It was also useful to converge ideas

together and show new and insightful ideas.

SlideshareAnother way in which I presented my ideas was using either/or these websites as they allowed me to upload my PowerPoint onto

blogger and share my ideas. It was especially helpful in my research and planning stage and I wish to have used it for this question

however was unable access. I found it easy to use and displayed my PowerPoint

professionally.

GoogleI have used Google through every part

of my coursework, especially in research and planning to extract images of

professional products and then compare to mine. However I also used it to find

interesting websites that had useful information to what I was doing and therefore develop my ideas further.

GrabThe Grab tool was very helpful during the construction of my product as the

selection screen shot ability helped my continually update my work tidily and explain on my blog more easily what I

was doing as a reader could see all the features.

DaFontI used DaFont into researching fonts appropriate for my

genre. With the wide variety of fonts I could chose many then get feed back on the one that would be the

most effective. In addition DaFont allowed me to choose professional fonts that convey my genre appropriately

as the Fonts available looked unique and more eye-catching then those already available therefore appeal more to my target genre. Using this site I also became more use to downloading and was therefore helpful in

downloading different things into Photoshop etc.

Final cut ExpressThis program is what I used to create my entire trailer and once I got use to the set up I found it quite easy to get the

hang off. It allowed me to simply do everything I needed to such as cut footage, change speed, layer sounds etc. It

allowed me to include features seen in professional models and now I am more aware of the editing methods Final Cut Express provides. Being able to import an array of downloads also helped to create a more unique trailer

and also having the tool to upload it on to such sites as YouTube was helpful in sharing my work with everyone.

PhotoShopPhotoshop was vital in moving my project along and producing my print products, Also I was able to create my inter-titles and

film logos for my trailer - this was useful when making my trailer look more professional by including these conventions,

through this process I learnt to download and import fonts and brushes to create unique effects. I didn't only use Photoshop in the layout section of my print products by the use of the layer tool which I learnt how to use more efficiently but I also used Photoshop in the editing of my images with features such as

'contrast' and 'colour balance' - These were helpful when trying to convey my genre to an audience. I now feel more

confident using Photoshop how there is still room for improvement as there are more tools I can learn to use to

make my Photoshop experience more useful.

Garage BandUsing Garage band as well, I therefore had an even wider

range off effects to choose from and I could create my own sound mixes which and apply them to my trailer which was efficient as I could therefore get what I wanted specifically

and as a result have my trailer fit together better.

SLR CameraUsing an SLR Camera I was able to make sure all

my images taken were to the best of quality therefore I can ensure that my images where to a professional standard and then consequently my

print products where to a professional standard also. In addition I could frequently take

photographs and keep my intentions and ideas constantly updated.

Digital CameraUsing a digital camera as well as an SLR camera

was handy because with the digital camera it was much more mobile therefore I could constantly

keep my work up to date and keep regular evidence of where I'm up to on my work and

improvements.

HD Video CameraI was lucky enough to have access to use a HD Video camera

which gave me high resolution footage to again create a more professional trailer. It has allowed me to take my ideas from planning on paper to creating footage which I then learnt to

import onto Final Cut Express. However on a section of my trailer where the main character was looking through the girls room we

didn't have access to a HD Video Camera therefore we had to use a Tape Video Camera however we tried to use sufficient

lighting to reduce pixelated footage.

TripodThe tripod was helpful in taking footage steadily and

replicate professional practice. Also I could take footage from different angles and heights, again

steadily which would not have been possible when handheld.

IPhotosThis enabled me to store all my photos

in a an organised manner and therefore made selection and storage more easily.

YoutubeWith the use of YouTube in my research and planning I could view

other professional trailers to help inspire my own therefore I could learn and analyse easily conventions and features in horror genre

trailers. Also during the construction of my trailer I could continually upload drafts of my trailer and receive feedback

therefore I could constantly keep on improving it and it be the best that it can be. It became a frequently use source during the construction stage and being able to embed the video and share

it on many different sites was also helpful again in receiving feedback.
