EVALUATION QUESTION 3What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Page 2: Evaluation question 3 for media

Documentary – Do you think the Documentary is informative?• This was the first question we asked as our documentary was

produced to inform the spectator aboutknife crime. We decided the first question should be a closed question rather thanopen as its easier to answer and makes our target audience feel more Comfortable

• We learnt that 10 out of 11 said yeswhich meant at least 90% of our target audience thought our documentary was informative. This was good as we wanted to recognise if the target audience established our narrative structure.

• However not everyone thought it was informative. We can improve next time by adding more statistics and real life cases in our documentary so the target audience has more to learn.

Page 3: Evaluation question 3 for media

Do you think the documentary is appealing to you and meets the audience?• To see if our documentary meet the

requirements of our target audiencewas essential.

• We learnt that 10 out 11 said yeswhich meant at least 90% thoughtthe documentary was appealingto them and meets the target audience of youths. This was goodnews for us as throughout the documentary we produced it to aim at a specific target audience

• However not everyone agreed. We could improve this by adding my more youthful techniques into our documentary, this could be more brighter colours and less violent clips so its more appealing to our target audience.

Page 4: Evaluation question 3 for media

What do you think is the most appealing aspect about the documentary?• Question 3 was still closed

but had slightly more options to giveour target audience more freedombut still easy to interpretate.

• 8 out of 11 stated the interviews wasthe most appealing aspect or thingabout the documentary. Whereas the rest (3 out of 11) thought it was the background footage. Again this was good news as our interviews had a lot of information about knife crime which made them important so if the target audience thought that was appealing, it also meant they learning. We also learnt that some thought the background footage was appealing, this was a positive as we used certain background footage to attract our target audience.

• However no one thought music was appealing. Therefore we could improve this next time by adding more youthful related music such as rap or hip hop which will allow our audience to relate to the music.

Page 5: Evaluation question 3 for media

What do you think can improved about the documentary?• Similarly to question 3 we gave

our audience 3 options so theyhad more choice.

• We learnt that 7 out of 11 thoughtthat ‘other’ could be improvedabout the documentary, luckilywe gave them a space to tell uswhat they thought. 4 thought soundlevels could be improved and 3 thought there was to much explicit footage. We could conquer this next time by making our sound levels more equal so the sound could be easier to hear and by decreasing some of the violent footage used.

• Another way we could improve some of the downfalls were by adding more professional interviews and better music in our documentary so it relates to the target audience.

What would you rate this documentary out of 10?

• This question was much moreopen as it had 10 options which gavethe spectator a chance what theythought how good our documentary was.

• We learnt that the answers varied butthe most popular answer (40%) was 8 out of 10. This was a positive sign as 8 out of 10 meant our documentary was generally good in whole so the media text was really effective.

• However the answers did vary and some voted 5/6 out of 10 which meant our documentary was average to some of our target audience. We could improve this by adding more techniques in our documentary that our audience would enjoy.

Page 7: Evaluation question 3 for media

After watching this documentary what are your opinions on knife crime and have they changed?• Our documentary was produced to inform

the spectator so this question was vitalas we needed to know if we changed the spectators opinion on knife crime.

• We learnt that the most popular answerswere both ‘we need to be more cautious’and that ‘knife crime has a negative effect’.This is good as it denoted that we caught the attention of our target audience and helped shaped their opinions on towards a serious issue of knife crime.

What was the best aspect about the documentary

• Our final question is similar to question 3 but it doesn’t just focuson how appealing a technique buthow good it is in general.

• We learnt that the answers wereceived varied as the questionhad a lot of options. Most (6 out of 11)thought the interviews the best which again is significant because they consisted of a lot of information however since the answers varied it illustrates how well we used different techniques in our documentary.

most appealing so for this questionwe needed to know the opposite.

Do you think the main image works well with the genre of the documentary that we have chosen? • The main image in our magazine article is very

important as its suppose to be one of the mainattractions in our media text so it must linknicely with our documentary genre.

• 15 out of 20 stated yes, this portrays how wellthe image worked with the genre of the documentarywhich we have chosen. The use of colour black and white in the main image is really effective and it matches the genre of our documentary.

• However not everyone agreed, we could improve this next time by using a main image of a different character that suits more to our target audience.

Do you think it looks like a professional magazine article?• When producing a magazine article, its

essential to make it as professionalas possible so it looks realistic.

• We learnt that 17 out of 20 which meantat least 85% of our target audience thoughtour magazine article looked professional. This was good because as stated before the media text needs to look realistic or our target audience won’t take it seriously and knife crime is a serious issue.

How do you think the magazine article can be improved?• To make the most successful

magazine article you need to know if thereare any faults so it can be improved later.

• We learnt that the answers did vary, but mostthought better font (7 out of 20) and betterimages (9 out of 20) could help improve the magazine article. We could fix this issue by making picking a more clear and appealing font so it attracts the audience and using images which are more engaging.

Was the commentary in the radio trailer appropriate?• The commentary in the radio trailer has

a lot of important information about ourdocumentary so it was essential thatthe commentary was appropriate.

• We learnt from our audience feedback that everyone thought the commentary in the radio trailer was appropriate. This was fantastic feedback because the commentary included a lot of information and if our target audience found it appropriate they must have taken in all this information about our documentary. Focus Group – Feedback on documentary• I conducted a focus group

consisting of people from ourtarget audience to get feedback onour documentary which I thenuploaded on YouTube.

• After watching the audience feedback, I learntthat the statistics used in the documentarywas really effective as the focus groupthought they were really informative.

• I learnt that the documentary does meet the target audience as they are able to relate to what's being shown.

• I learnt that the interviews were appropriate and appealing. The focus group also likedthe way in which some of the footage wasedited.

• One fault that I have learnt which needs to improved is the sound levels, I can improve this by making the sound levels more equal and clear.

• The documentary is rate quite highly• The focus group talks about what they learnt from the documentary which was good as it meant

that our target audience gained new knowledge on knife crime and how bad it really is.
