Question 3: What media institution might distribute your media product and why? A possible company to approach about distributing our film might be Paramount Pictures as have distributed other British Romantic comedies such as Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging* however, also distributed How to Lose Friends and alienate people*. This makes Paramount more likely to distribute our production as it is a British romantic comedy also. * Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging grossed £6.6 million in the UK with a £700,000 budget therefore was a successful film and a low budget film could identify with our own production. * How to lose friends and Alienate people was created with a budget of $27,000,000 and a gross of $2,775,593 and therefore Paramount pictures has had some losses with British romantic comedies. Although Paramount Pictures has distributed films of the same genre, they have had limited success and are also an American company, therefore would be difficult to meet locally and this would make communications difficult.

Another possible distribution company we could approach would be BBC Films, because have distributed comedies such as Pride* and Scoop*. This makes them more likely to distribute our film because they have distributed films of a similar genre.
* Pride grossed £3,265,317 in the UK without any budget released. As this film is a British comedy, this is close to the genre of our own production.
"BBC Films is committed to finding and developing new talent, collaborating with some of the foremost writers and directors in the industry.” Is written on the homepage for the BBC Films website, this shows that this distribution company is open to supporting new ideas and people, this would be good for our film as we have not had any experience in the film industry and have not produced any professional films before. Also as BBC Films is a British- based distribution company therefore making it a much more accessible and suitable choice for communications regarding our film.
