Media Institution

A media institution is a company that owns, produces and distributes various media products. The media institution that I think my product would best fit is Bauer Media.

I think Bauer media group would be the best institution to distribute my music magazine as they distribute media products across many different media platforms, so it would be easier for my magazine audience to access my product, which creates proliferation in audience consumption.

They also create and distribute successful and popular magazines such as Q, MOJO, Kerrang and many more. I think that my magazine will do well because it is a pop magazine with a mainstream audience, so it won’t clash with Kerrang or MOJO.

These magazines also have their own websites, so I could have a POP magazine website to promote my music magazine. I could also have an app for my magazine product as the majority of my audience will have a smartphone.

Bauer Music – Q, MOJO, Kerrang magazine – they have experience and appeal to a large, mainstream audience.

Bauer Media reaches over 22 million UK consumers every week through multimedia brands such as heat, kiss, empire and absolute radio. It creates entertaining media content that audiences love.

It offers over 300 magazines in 15 countries, as well as online, TV and radio stations.

Q Magazine

Q is a pop/rock ‘n’ roll music magazine which is produced monthly and it features artists like Adele, Lady Gaga, Cheryl Cole, Lily Allen and Madonna.

There is a gap in the market for my product as Bauer does not yet produce a ‘pop’ magazine featuring artists such as Ed Sheeran, Beyonce and the 1975.

Q magazine also appeals mainly to men, whereas my music magazine ‘pop’ aims to appeal to a female majority.

MOJO is a classic rock music magazine which is produced monthly and it features artists like The Beatles, Oasis, The Smiths, John Lennon and Radiohead.

MOJO magazine appeals mainly to men, whereas my music magazine ‘pop’ aims to appeal to a female majority, so my product would fit into the gap in the market.

Kerrang Magazine

Kerrang is also a rock music magazine which is produced monthly and it features artists like My Chemical Romance, Bring Me The Horizon, Black Veil Brides, Linkin Park and Paramore.

Kerrang magazine appeals to both men and women, but slightly more towards men. My music magazine ‘pop’ aims to appeal to a female majority, so there will be no clashes with Bauer’s magazines and will fit nicely into the gap in the market for a pop magazine, appealing to females.
