Question 3What have you learnt from your

audience feedback?

When conducting audience feedback we arranged a small screening of our documentary followed by a showing of our radio trailer and magazine to a 2 groups one of 5 the other of 4. After the screening we conducted a focus group with one group and handed out a questionnaire to the other. The results of which can we found on the blog. We also screened our documentary to our piers in class handing out a questionnaire to 12 people of mixed genders. When asked ‘Out of 10, how well did the documentary inform you on the topic’ we received these results 3 people said 64 people said 84 people said 91 person said 10

In contrast when asked ‘Out of 10, how well did the documentary entertain you’ 3 people said 99 people said 10From these results it is clear that people where a lot more entertained by the documentary than informed. It was our goal to entertain our audience and keep them engaged however the overall point of a documentary is to inform the audience of a topic. In retrospect it would have been wise to include more information about the topic, however our documentary was intended to be the first 5 minutes of a 45 minute film and the purpose of that first five minutes is really to draw in an audience which I feel we did achieve. When asked ‘Does the documentary appeal to our target audience? (16-21) we received a unanimous yes which makes me feel the comical approach was the right one to take.

The Documentary

To further our audience research we asked 4 individuals of the target audience to watch the documentary. After the screening I asked the individuals what they thought of the film, click on each video to view what they had to say.

From these responses I can see that the dual presenter aspect really resonated with our target audience and that they found it humorous. This is further backed up by the questionnaire results.

We also asked what aspects of the documentary where peoples favourite and why, most of the participants commented on the humour used or on the dual presenters, here is a sample of responses we received. ‘Humour very original and well thought out’‘The on screen presenters, although it had the potential to be cheesy and preachy it was very well done’‘The two on screen presenters’‘I liked the on screen presenters, makes it different from other documentaries that just use voice over’Overall I am happy with the audience response to our documentary, it seems that most liked the comic approach and dual presenters however it appears that the documentary did more to entertain than to inform

The Magazine

We gathered a small group of 5 people and showed them our magazine, afterwards we handed out this questionnaire and asked for their responses

How much do you like our double page spread?

8910

When we asked the group how much did they enjoy it we received a good result with the majority giving it a 9 out of 10.

Also when asked if they thought the magazine was suitable for our target audience we got a unanimous yes, this further confirms that the magazine does in fact appeal to our demographic. Below are the graphs for questions 2 through 5.

Was the text in the layout easy to read?

YesNo

Was the colour scheme effective

YesNo

Is it visually attractive and pro-fessional?

YesNo

Did the magazines pull quotes fit with the content of the magazine?

YesNo

I am quite happy with these results, 2 out of the 5 people asked didn’t think it was visually attractive and professional which makes me wonder if we could have improved the design of the magazine and 1 member didn’t think the pull quotes fit the content of the magazine. This may be due to the pull quotes highlighting the comical tones in the magazine, however overall I am happy with these results.

Radio Trailer

Similarly to the magazine we asked the same group of people similar questions on the radio trailer. We received surprisingly similar results especially with question 1, which mirrored the results of question 1 for the magazine.

The majority vote when asked if they enjoyed the trailer was a 10 out of 10 which makes me confident in my decision to add comic elements to it. This theory is further backed up by the fact thatthe peoples favourite element of the documentary was the banter back and forth between thepresenters

When asked if they heard the trailer would they tune in 4 out of the 5 participants said they would. I feel that this is due to the comic tone of our trailer.

If you heard this on the radio would you

tune in?

YesNo

We also found that all 5 asked think that the channel BBC 3 is suitable and they did acquire all the information they desired from the trailer.

Did you acquire all the information you

desired from the radio trailer

YesNo

Do you think that the channel is suitable for

the documentary

YesNo

From these results I think its clear to conclude that we produced a professional sounding radio trailer with the majority of listeners agreeing that they would tune in to watch the film if it was to air.

ConclusionOverall I have learnt from my audience feedback that our documentary was very entertaining and that spectators enjoyed the dual presenter dynamic. The majority of viewers also enjoyed the sound and pace of the film, however it is apparent that most spectators found the documentary more entertaining than informative. Regarding my magazine everyone asked liked the layout and colour scheme however some of those asked found it didn’t look professional. In regards to the radio trailer, the majority who listened to it said they would tune in and everyone found it informative and suitable to air on our chosen channel BBC 3. In conclusion I am happy with my audience response, however if I could change anything about the documentary I would probably try to include more information about the topic at had
