Transcript of Evaluation question 3

* Cinema would be the most obvious institute to distribute
our media product because it would attract a wide
audience range due to the target group of people the film
attracts. For example, ages 15-20, middle class, all
ethnicities and both genders which are all types of people
you would expect to see at the cinema.
* The TV institute could distribute our film because the
mystery aspect would attract a lot of people to watch
and could potentially result in channels receiving a lot of
views.
* Film festivals may show our media product because they
think it’s something people would want to watch and
write reviews about.
*
*Netflix could be a potential distributor for our film as it is
very popular amongst the ages of our target audience.
* It has a variety of different films, of different genres and
therefore our mystery thriller could easily be distributed
here.
*Our film could also be distributed online as teenagers and
young adults are mostly always online and would be a
fast, easy thing for them to access wherever they are.
*
Exodus: Gods and Kings 12a The Hobbit: 12a Paddington: PG
Into The Woods: PG Taken 3: 12a The Woman In Black: 15
*
*At the moment, there are a variety of different
genre films on at the cinema. They range from
action, crime & thriller in Taken 3, to adventure,
comedy and fantasy in Into The Woods.
*This shows the wide groups of audiences going to
Odeon. Ranging from films that younger people
would watch, to films for young adults and adults.
*The Woman in Black 2 is the only film showing with
a similar age group to our film as it is targeting ages
15 and above. As this is one of the only 15 ratings
on at Odeon at the moment, it shows that the
audiences that the cinema mostly attracts are
younger aged.

*The Ambassadors in Woking shows some quite similar films to the ones shown in Guildford, however, I think Ambassadors is more family orientated and therefore has films for a younger target audience such as Annie and Paddington.
*The Woking cinema has less screens than the cinema in Guildford which could meaning it could attract a smaller number of people and attracts different audiences to Guildford.

*BFI distribute films with genres such as drama and
romance (The Green Ray), which suggests an older
audience of 20+ and you would except mostly a
female audience.
*They also have films with genres such as drama and
biographies (au revoir les enfants, The Night Will
Fall) which you would assume would attract a much
older audience, maybe male and people who were
interested in war and history.
*This is a lot different to Odeon cinemas because
Odeon attracts families and younger people,
whereas BFI is more for older people who enjoy
classics.
*
*
*Lexi Cinema had genres such as drama and
comedy, adventure and family and also romance.
*These genres suggest that the cinema doesn’t
just distribute one genre of film, but many, and
for all groups of people with different ages.
*I think this is quite unusual for independent
cinemas as they usually show films that aren’t as
popular with the majority of people.
*However, Lexi Cinema does show live theatre
productions as well as films which would attract
a very different audience to Odeon.
*
*The winner of the Festival De Cannes in 2014 was
Winter Sleep: Nuri Bilge Ceylan. The main genre of
this film was drama.
*Some of the other films in competition with Winter
Sleep also had the drama genre. This isn’t the same
genre as our film which tells us that film festivals
attract a much different audience range to cinema.
*The Biography dramas won the most awards. This
shows that film festivals are mostly aimed at older
people as the Drama genre isn’t usuully something
aimed at younger people.
*
*The competitors for the Best Film Award 2014 were Dearest, The Duke of Burgundy, The Falling and Girlhood.
*A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night was the only film with the similar type genre to our film sequence as it was a thriller and had some aspects of mystery.
*This contrasts with the Cannes Film Festival as it has a wider target audience range, compared to just the one genre.
*However, both film festivals focus mostly on Drama as the main genre in their films.
