Introduction

I used three ways to address or attract my audience.Questionnaire Focus Group Facebook

Questionnaire

I carried out my questionnaire survey through Google docs and it eased me in getting response from a wider range of audience.

I included 10 questions that covered every aspect of finding targeted audience. Moreover my questionnaire got 50+ responses that were more than enough and this also helped me in covering all age groups ranging from teenagers to middle aged people.

My questionnaire was answered by 44% of males and 56% females which gave me a proportionate response from both the genders.

The age distribution question was divided among 13 to 18, 19 to 25, 25 to 30 and 30 above. The most response I got were from teenagers because they are more inclined towards watching a romantic film.

Another essential question that was included in questionnaire was about the likeness of romance genre. It was a straight forward question and 77% people are still bounded in romance genre and they like light hearted movies while the other 23% had no interest in it.

Moreover I also asked my audience that why you will not be inclined to watch a romantic film. I got mixed response on this but more emphasis was laid upon storyline so I paid more importance on building up a good and strong story plot and screenplay

My last question was about the reference films that I searched into such as “A Walk To Remember”, “Sweet November” and “P.s I Love You. There were mixed responses from people but the most liked one was “A Walk To Remember” which was my core reference film and my film includes some codes and convention of it. So definitely my film will also be liked by a wide range of audience.

Focus Group

A focus group is a form of qualitative research in which a group of people are asked about their perceptions, opinions, beliefs, and attitudes towards a product, concept, idea and etc.

What focus groups can tell you:1. Give information on how groups of people think or feel

about a particular media product2. Give greater insight into why certain opinions are held 3. Help improve the planning and design of new product4. Provide a means of evaluating existing products

In the focus group I made a group of teenagers sit and watch trailers of my three reference films.

Below is the link to my focus group that I conducted.

Focus group helped me in knowing the interests and opinions of teenagers about romantic films. Moreover each and every individual was able to express their opinions about the trailers freely.

I noticed the fact that more people were interested in the movie "A Walk To Remember" as it targets mainly young people out there and revolves around issues like love, relationship, promises and friendship which helped audience to relate it more deeply.

Through this type of audience research I was able to clear out my ideas in accordance with audience choice and interests. I kept the movie “A Walk To Remember” my core reference films and after conducting questionnaire and focus groups I researched in more details about this film. At every point in the making of my film, I used to consult back to “A Walk To Remember”.

Another main element of focus group was that I was able to contact the group of people face to face and know their personal interests and opinions. This helped me in knowing that how romance genre is now evolving in todays world among people.

I can tell from the comments mentioned that the general reaction of the audience was that the film was very nice and story was well knitted.

From this generalized audience feedback, I can easily say that my film met up to my expected reaction of the audience. This gave me a strong feedback and I was able to gather information about my target audience.

From the audience feedback collected through Facebook. I also got to know about the different views on the ending of my film. Some were not expecting it to be a sad ending because usually most of the romantic films have an happy ending where both boy and girl live happily ever after and moreover audience are relatable to it. In my film “Nothing Lasts Forever” there is a sad ending of a love story and both male and female protagonist are left struggling differently in their own ways. This sets my story apart from all the other formula based films that involves repetitive storyline.

Summary

Overall I think the methods I used to find targeted audience were of a lot of help in building my final product for the correct age group.

At initial stages of target audience research for instance questionnaire helped me in identifying the correct sub genre of romance to work on according to the choice and interests of audience.

Without any of these I would not be able to know my main product from audience point of view such as through Facebook comments I got to know about the good and bad things about my film and was able to accept both compliments and criticism on it.
