Teaser

The teaser uses mise en scene throughout in order to establish common themes of the film we are creating. The use of poker chips, cards and a clown mask are featured all through the main product and ancillary texts in order to reinforce the brand identity. The use of these props gives the audience an idea of the genre, themes and result in the audience associating these props when they are seen with the film campaign we are creating. The use of certain stand out props such as masks and poker chips throughout the film campaign help to make it far more effective as they stand out far more compared to normal props that are used in a variety of different film campaigns and products.

Poster

The poster uses the props seen in the teaser to reinforce the brand identity further, the use of the cards and clown mask help people to link the film to the teaser through ways other than the title and also help to establish the fact that crime and poker are key themes.

The mise en scene is very effective as it links the three products together in a variety of ways helping for easy marketing as the props become commonly associated with the film.

The use of the logo seen in the poster acts as another way of branding as people can associate the film with the logo. This means that the film can be advertised simply with the use of a logo on other products such as McDonalds meals or magazine articles.

Magazine

Our magazine once again uses the clown mask to reinforce the brand identity. The clown character is used so frequently due to him being the main antagonist within our film so he becomes a key feature of our branding process. Being such a key character and the most easy to recognize we decided to place him on the front of our magazine cover too and feature him heavily throughout all 3 of our products as he will become associated with our film campaign, he is also the most easy to remember as his look is very different to characters typically seen within films.

We also used a gun to act as a signifier which could connote danger and act as a way of establishing our genre to the audience viewing any of the 3 products of our film campaign.

Text

The same text has been used throughout our main product and ancillary texts as it allows for the audience to easily recognize the colours, font and logo whilst immediately relating them to our film. The use of a unique font, coloured red with a white glow and sometimes featuring a logo really helps to reinforce the brand identity as it is different to every other film title or product name used before. This branding is crucial to determining how well a film is advertised and the success that amounts from it. Companies do not tend to have different colour text or different style fonts as they want the name to be remembered alongside the font as it can be easily associated

Signifiers

The gun was used in both the trailer

and magazine as it connotes danger

and action, linking nicely to the

genre of our film whilst giving the

audience a clear idea of what to

expect if they were to watch a full

length version of our project.

The clown is used throughout the

main product and ancillary texts due

to being the main antagonist. The

way the character is dressed

alongside the mask has

connotations of business, wealth and

also danger (due to the mask hiding

his identity). The use of this clothing

and character throughout results in

him being part of the branding itself

as he is commonly associated with

the film alike to popular actors in

films released before.

The clown mask itself is one of the key

props as it is shown throughout all of

the film campaign. It is a signifier that

connotes danger and unpredictability

playing on a common phobia of clowns

that a lot of people have. The fact that

the clown mask connotes

unpredictability is crucial as that is one

of the key characteristics of The Clown.

Signifiers 2

The use of poker chips and cards connote gambling, money

and risk; all 3 of which are key themes within our film ‘Gamble’.

The frequent use of shots of a poker game within our teaser

trailer help to highlight to the audience that this is one of the

biggest themes found within the film. This relates to the logo

found behind the title on the poster and the card being held by

The Clown on the poster.

The use of a drug deal signifies the theme of crime which has

connotations of illegal activity and breaking the law. Although

only one drug deal is shown it could be seen as the pivotal

moment for the protagonist as it is the root of his downfall.

The drugs themselves have connotations of crime as previously

explained. The frequent use of shots such as this relate to the

idea of breaking the law, something that is shown throughout

our film campaign in our main product and ancillary texts with

props such as a gun and scenes with the villain such as a

kidnapping.

How Effective?

Overall the combination of our main product and ancillary texts allows for

an effective film campaign which is able to reinforce brand identity over all

3 projects through the use of a selected amount of props being used

repeatedly and texts that are repeated in the same font and colour

throughout the entire campaign. The purpose of a film campaign is to

advertise a project by getting it to appeal to the audience it is aimed at

whilst making it memorable. Our use of a clown mask (our key prop not

commonly used in other films) throughout our teaser trailer, magazine and

poster allows for a memorable viewing experience as it is a very unique

costume design which stands out from the crowd. The incorporation of

props such as a poker chip and card throughout the main product and

ancillary texts alongside the mask reinforces a key theme found within our

film appealing to our target audience even further. By making a film

campaign unique and repeating a variety of signifiers and key props it

helps to remind the audience of the film whenever they see the character

or objects, something which I feel we have been successful in doing.
