Evaluation

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

When my group and I decided we needed a better understanding of what we were up for and how we should approach our coursework. For that we relied on the internet.

We first needed to understand the various codes and conventions and the different interpretation of music videos. For this we looked through the internet. We researched more into the Andrew Goodwin theory and the history of music video. Unlike books and articles the internet is a lot more convenient for task such as research you are able to discover the information you need within seconds also applying that knowledge to your work by using Microsoft word.

We used Microsoft word to hold our data and information we collected this was suitable for us as Microsoft is easy to use. We were also able to present our work through Microsoft along site sides such as slide share. Both were a necessity for helping us with a more slick presentation.

We first needed to research similar text to decide what sound track we were going to select along with the genre of music. We decided that as we were creating something visually we would use YouTube as our basis for our research. Using YouTube we researched similar text as well as looking the different genres as well as finding features that relate to the codes and conventions. YouTube is a very convenient site as it offers videos from before the 8o’s even though it was only established in the year 2005. YouTube is known worldwide and our target audience is a heavy use of YouTube. So when we finished our product on final cut pro we transferred it to YouTube which is easily accessible to our target audience. Also it was convenient when receiving audience feedback this helped us with the progression of our music video as it wasn’t time consuming.

This year we were given new cameras by the college these were the JVC Everio HDp.

Because the cameras were a modern design they were much easier to use and because of

their small structure and light density it was convenient for my group and I. Last year we

had old fashion cameras. The camera was much bigger and we needed to capture each

scene individually and then transfer the footage to final cut pro, this was incredibly time

consuming and made the editing process much more difficult. But now with the new

cameras it comes with a memory card which goes straight into the computer this allowed us

to save the time of the project but also allowed time for us to experiment with all the

footage instead of picking a few shots. This was beneficial as it allowed us to create a music

video to the best of our ability.

Final cut pro was the software which allowed us to create our music video. Although

compared to other software it’s much more complex it’s also just as precise. With the wide

range of effects and its precision we were able to develop the codes and conventions. We

were able to create the quick cuts in synch with the sound track which would have proved

difficult with other sides. The ability to stretch out the song and pinpointing the footage to

the beat allowed us to be specific and create a music video which holds the same codes and

conventions as the professional ones.

As I was getting a chance to think and work creatively, I really didn’t want to use the obvious

typical technologies that were offered to everyone on a daily basis such as Microsoft word

or PowerPoint. So I used the internet using the well known search engine Google and looked

for other ways I could present my work. I found websites such as Slideshare which is an

interesting alternative to Microsoft PowerPoint this allowed me to be more experimental

and showcase my work in a more interesting format. After finding Slide share I found sites

such as prezzi.com which takes sites such as Slideshare even further to make your work look

even more creative and engaging.

Our demographic for our audience was 15- 24 the reason for this was because they were all

students in education who appreciate the indie genre the most. We needed to find a target

audience, understand there wants and needs, create something to their liking and also

through the process obtain their audience feedback. Websites such as Facebook, Bebo,

MySpace, Twitter, BlogSpot and even YouTube allowed me to communicate to my potential

target audience and get feedback on my media project. These sites are just a modern

convenient way of communicating and they allowed me to save time and energy. My target

audience opinions are essential to creating my final product and with the help of

technologies such as Facebook and YouTube I was able to do just that and conveniently

process and publish my finding straight from the sites to the blog.
