The conventions involved

The editing is done in a way to ensure many emotions are shown and different events. At some points in the video we only see Chris playing the guitar and singing, but then

during these shots there is little camera boxes showing other events like Chris and Katie dancing. The effects also create a slow feeling as the shots dissolve into others resulting in a burst of feelings and an insight into how Chris and Katie are feeling at the designated time of the shot. Compared to other music videos in this genre ours stands out as it is not your normal romantic video, it is not set with wind blowing through the hair or constant black and white effect. The lighting is also consistently bright to enable bright emotions and feelings resulting in the expression easy to see which helps the audience engage with the characters and understand their feeling. The props that were used are just an acoustic guitar and a chair, this helps keep the video close to reality as there are not big settings and real life events such as guitar playing and dancing, in comparison to Taylor swift love story un realistic settings are used such as big castles and big fancy ball rooms. Also a budget was given to the artist and we done it voluntary without any money at all. Which adds to the reality of the video.

Comparison to to other videos

Taylor swift- love story

As you can see these shots show similarity to our video as they are both people who want to be with each other, and theirs eyes are glued to each other. In both video you can see the emotion and feeling being created by eye contact of each character.

Continued comparison

In contrast with each other the dancing scenes are very different in regards to setting, costume and dancing style. The setting of Taylor Swift- Love story the dancing scenes are set in big ball rooms which are very formal, although in our video the dancing is set on a stage there is no body else around and the stage is completely empty, again highlighting reality in our video, on top of this the costumes are completely different, Taylor swifts are all big forma; dresses and suits where as our video is casual clothing and relatively natural which leads to the style of dancing, the dancing in Taylor Swifts is very rehearsed and planned whereas ours is natural and flows. In addition to this you can feel a romantic atmosphere in the air with our video but in Taylor Swifts it looks as though it is in a competition and they are being judged.

conclusion

Finally we did use the conventions to develop and enhance ideas for our own video, however we did challenge some conventions as a lot of videos are make believe ideas where as our video is all about the reality of the situation and what responses people would make when coming face to face with these sorts of events.
