Themes – Music VideoThe theme of the music video is self explanatory, it explores the notion of young love. This is portrayed through POV shots throughout the music video to illustrate their intimate love. The lyrics of the song talk about how the artist wants his interest to “love him again”. We instantly understand this through the first lyric of the song “I used to believe we were burning on the edge of something beautiful.” Regarding the portrayal of the artist and the female actor, the music video deviates from any sexual appeal and blossoms the idea of love approaching a different way of portraying this in the media. The argued USP in the music video is the POV shots used in two different purposes; the first one is to represent flashbacks of how they were together and making videos of each other and the second purpose is to highlight a different use of the male gaze through the eyes of the artist.

Despite the fact that the song being about his lost love and how he wants to get her back usually is referred to a sad break up song. The music video and genre create a different way of showing this through the use of colours and dancing. The music video is successful in doing this as it only conveys positive flashbacks together along side colourful shots.

Following the conventions of a standard pop/dance pop music video, we included different shots such as a silhouette and projection on the artist, both commonly used in the music videos of the genre.

Themes – Print Products

The theme across the print products is evidently portrayed through the colour scheme and the portrayal of the artist. The magazine advert and the single cover both deliberately share the same colour scheme. This allows the audience to make a connection and allow an easier search for the album. The bold complimentary colours are used to also allow recognition of the artists single to be evident when portrayed in the media. The brush stroke effect used against a toned photograph of the artist can be interpreted in various ways, one in which allows the impression of the artist being mature dance pop artist despite the bold splash of colours. It also allows the representation of the song, despite the song being about love it is also a fun song to dance too.

House Style

As a group, we made a joint decision in keeping the lettering simplistic, due to the gender and representation of the artist we were limited. The bold lettering represents the masculine side of the artist and the professionalism the artist delivers. Despite the agreement of keeping the lettering simplistic, we also decided we could approach our design of the print product through individual preference and with no specific house style throughout all our end products. I chose the colour white to simply compliment the bold colours and the toned image. I also chose to highlight a few letters in the colour grey to match the image of the artist. This was also implied in the single cover I created.I changed the colour scheme for the inside of the CD cover into more toned colours. Regarding the USP of the packaging, I also included the artists signature to create a more personal and direct connection to the target audience.

Location of Video and Print

As the genre was dance pop/pop, we considered the best way to capture certain conventions such as projection and silhouettes was to film/photograph in the studio.

The use of the busy shopping centre was to create a time lapse. The purpose of the time lapse was to represent that the focus the artist has on the female interest no matter who and what is around.Overall, not many locations were used as we wanted to keep the music video simple and professional rather than crowding the music video with different shots and locations.

DistributionRegarding the single and where it can be downloaded from, I have chosen 3 of the most popular music platforms accessed everyday.I researched were Justin Bieber’s songs are initially bought and listened to, iTunes and Spotify were both very highly popular apps used. In terms of the music video, YouTube will be the number one platform it will be distributed to, due to the massive access everyone has to YouTube including various audiences.

In terms of the magazine advert, Justin Bieber's predominantly included in the Billboard Music Magazine, the magazine advert I created will be best suited for this magazine as they use a lot of colour and convey their magazine products through a creative and simplistic way. The target audience of the magazine also aims for a mature audience with similar interests to the target audience revolved around the artist.

Including the artists social media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram, these platforms will allow the artist to connect with the target audience and will also promote his own music – increasing interest in buying the single or listening to the song on YouTube.
