REPRESENTATION

My magazine represents the social group that listens to Dubstep and Chillstep by using language that is relatable to males and females that are around 15-28 years old and are of all races and are of an upper middle class or other lower. Phrases such as ”How to “do the Dub” A beginners guide to getting down to Dubstep” are the kind that use language that the target audience uses and this is why it connects with them and makes them more inclined to buy the magazine. It also uses images that relate to the genres of music that the magazine is based on, e.g. an image of a DJ.

The colours I have used are mainly tertiary browns and oranges that flow well throughout the magazine and relate to the audience because it relates to the music’s sometimes dark yet euphoric feel.

INSTITUTIONS

One publisher that I could use to publish my magazine is IPC Media. IPC Media is a very well known publisher with around 26 million people in the UK read a magazine published by IPC Media like “NME magazine”, which is a magazine that my target audience might read, so by using them to publish my magazine I will know that they will be doing a good job. Also, because they are such a vastly spread company, they will already have a wide variety of advertising techniques that they can use to make it easier and cheaper to sell my magazine.

AUDIENCE

My magazine is aimed at a Niche overall music audience, which are people that listen to Dubstep and/or Chillstep and are interested in reading about what is happening with these genres of music, but when it comes to different audiences for different types of Dubstep and Chillstep it is aimed at a mass audience because it includes all forms of the two music genres, much like ‘Q’ magazine, which is a famous magazine that contains information on all forms of rock music instead of focusing on just one specific type such as indie rock music.

ATTRACTING MY AUDIENCE

My music magazine uses different methods to attract it’s audience by making them consciously and subconsciously make connections to the music they listen to and whether these connections are good or bad. The colours I have used in my magazine attract the target audience by linking to the music and making them feel as though the magazine already has a good connection with the music genres that the magazine is based on. The colours are dark browns with some subtle hints of orange and a few fleshy tones, creating the dark feel that Dubstep brings but also creating the feeling of elation that the brighter parts of the music can bring.

The images I have chosen are of male DJs that dress and look as though they produce and preform the chosen types of music, creating a link between the magazine and the music genres for the audience.

USE OF TECHNOLOGYHARDWARE - I used a Canon 1100D to take the photographs for my magazine, this allowed me to take

high quality images to represent the Dubstep and Chillstep genres.

a spotlight lamp and overhead lighting was used during the photo shoot to ensure that there was always an even distribution of light throughout the images, making the photographs look more professional and magazine like.

The camera shots that I used were Medium Close-ups and Medium Long Shots, this is so the whole story of the image can be portrayed without loosing too much focus on the subject by creating to much other space around the images.

I have used Mise en scène in my images to create a relative theme throughout my magazine, the main images are of a male wearing headphones, this signifies that there is a connection to music and makes the target audience think that he knows what he is doing.

I have used computers to research other music magazines of these genres and find out how they should look and how they attract and represent their target audiences to help me to design my own magazine. I also used computers to design and then construct my music magazine using different software and then to also share my work online on file sharing websites.

USE OF TECHNOLOGY CONTINUED

SOFTWARE I used Macromedia Fireworks to design and create my music magazine

by using text, importing my images, adding rectangles with a gradient affect and using a variety of different tools that the program has to offer.

WEBSITESThe websites that I have used during my project are Blogger and

Slideshare, these websites have allowed me to upload my coursework to them in order to display them on a blog that is based on blogger. Slideshare allows you to upload PowerPoint presentations to the site and you can then uses the link to embed the PowerPoint onto your blog.
