Optiwave Software Evaluation License Installation instructions

The Optiwave evaluation license provides you with time-limited access to a fully functional software package. The installation of the software consists of the following steps:

1. Download the evaluation installation package.

2. Execute and install the downloaded file.

3. License activation with the following steps:

a. Run the license activation program and generate a (.C2V) file.

b. Email the (.C2V) file to Optiwave at evaluation@optiwave.com.

c. Optiwave generates a license key-code (.V2C) which is sent to you via email.

d. Load the (.V2C) file in the license activation program to activate the license.

See “License Activation” section (page 3) for details.

Detailed instructions are provided below.

You Should Know: Evaluation licenses cannot be activated or run in virtual environment

(e.g. VMWare).

Optiwave software products are Windows exclusive (Windows XP, Vista, and 7).

Mac or any other OS platforms are not supported.

The software license activation key-code (.V2C) file contains a computer

identification “fingerprint”. It will not work on any other computer than the one

from which the (.C2V) file was generated. See “License Activation” section

(page 3) for details.

To install and use the software on another computer, you need to obtain another

license activation key-code. See “License activation” section for details.

Detailed Instructions

(1) Download the evaluation package

Visit http://optiwave.com/products/register.php Complete and submit the form to create an account.

You will instantly receive your login credentials via email.

Download the software.

Select the ‘Save As’ option from your web browser to save the downloaded executable on your hard drive.

(2) Software Installation

To install the software, execute the downloaded file (simply double click on it) and follow the instructions of the installation. After you start the installer, you will receive a prompt notifying you the license is functional for seven (7) days of use. The license activation process will extend your evaluation period for 30 days.

(3) License Activation

Overview

After the software is installed, you have to activate the license to extend the licensing for

30 days.

The license activation process consists of three steps:

Generate the computer fingerprint file (.C2V). The License Activator will do it for

you and store it into a file with .C2V extension.

Email the computer fingerprint (.C2V) file to evaluation@optiwave.com.

Optiwave will email you back the license activation key-code file with a .V2C

extension.

Using the License Activator, activate the license using the provided license

activation key-code (.V2C) file.

To generate the computer fingerprint, start the License Activator. You can do this from

the Windows Start menu “All Programs->Optiwave Software->[installed Optiwave

Product]->License Activation”.

For example:

“All Programs ->Optiwave Software->OptiGrating 4->License Activation”

When License Activator starts, it will open a window titled “HASP SRM RUS”. Click the

button “Collect information” at the bottom of the “Collect Key Status Information” tab.

Your evaluation activation (.C2V) file will be generated automatically. Please name and save the file as ‘evaluation_activation.c2v’ on your desktop.

Save the file.

After the information collection process has completed, the Activator will display a

confirmation message in its window:

Now, you can close the License Activator (press the „x‟ button in the upper-right corner)

and proceed with the next step.

IMPORTANT:

The created .C2V file is unique to the computer from which it was generated. As a result, the activation key-code (.V2C) file, which you will receive in the next step, will only work (activate license) on the computer from which the C2V file was generated. This is the case for each product installed.

Email activation request to Optiwave

After the computer fingerprint (.C2V) file has been generated, send to

evaluation@optiwave.com an email requesting license activation. Make sure that the

following items are included with the email: - Product name for license activation (e.g. OptiGrating)

- Evaluation ID number (serial number), included in the initial email with download

instructions from Optiwave (e.g. OCG-2009-483D).

- Attach the previously generated (.C2V) file (e.g. evaluation.c2v)

Evaluation license activation

In response to your request for license activation, you will receive from Optiwave an

email with the key-code (.V2C) file attached. The .V2C file is your license activation file.

Save the attached (.V2C) file in some easy to access location, you will use it to activate

your evaluation license.

Typically, the attached file will be named after the evaluation ID number (serial number)

of your license, for example:

OCG-2009-483D_7_1_2010_9.v2c

Note:

Some antivirus and spam scanners may block the attached file from being transferred.

So if you obtain an email stating that it has attached “unlock code” file, but no

attachment is available, please inform Optiwave.

License activation requests are processed between 9 AM and 4 PM EDT, Monday to Friday.

IMPORTANT: Only one evaluation license activation code (per product) will work on the machine which generated the .C2V file.

Now start the License Activator. You can do it from the Windows Start menu “All

Programs->Optiwave Software->[installed Optiwave Product]->License Activation”

For example:

“All Programs ->Optiwave Software->OptiGrating 4->License Activation”

When the “HASP SRM RUS” License Activator window opens, select the “Apply License

Update” tab and enter the V2C file name path access (For example: “C:\tmp\OCG-2009-

483D_7_1_2010_9.v2c”) into the “Update File” field of the window.

Click on ‘APPLY UPDATE’ to activate your license.

Once successfully activated, the License Activator will display a message “Update written successfully.” in its window. You may now close the “HASP SRM RUS” License Activator window (click the ‘x’ button in the upper-right corner).

This completes the license activation process.

In case of failure, the License Activator will display “Update failed: Key with the

specified ID was not found” in its window. See below for the possible causes of the error

message.

IMPORTANT:

The evaluation license activation code (.V2C) file will only work on the machine which generated the .C2V file.

Attempts to activate evaluation license with the provided V2C file,

on another computer will result in “Update failed: Key with the

specified ID was not found” error message.

Request an evaluation license for the other computer.

The evaluation license activation code V2C file can be applied only once.

Attempts to activate evaluation license with the provided V2C file

for the second time, will result in “Update failed: Key with the

specified ID was not found” error message.

Request an extension of the evaluation license.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q: How do I know how much time I have left on my evaluation? A: There is a very useful utility you can use to view the remaining evaluation time on your license, once activated. Simply open up any web browser and type the following URL: http://localhost:1947/ This will open up the HASP Admin Control Center. On the left side you will see the main menu. Select “Features” from the menu. To the right of the screen, you will see your license configuration setup and how much time you have left. Q: Do I need to be connected to the internet to run Optiwave software?

A: No. Optiwave download licenses are independent installations and no information is transmitted over the internet. Q: Does my evaluation begin once I’ve downloaded the software, or once I have activated the software? A: Your evaluation begins once the license is activated with an unlock code provided by Optiwave.
