Who would be the audience for your media product?

Page 2: Evaluation 4 final

For my mainstream/ pop music magazine I decided that my target audience for my magazine is ages 16-23 year olds, aimed at both males and females. My magazine includes both male and female artists which would alternatively attract both genders. I think the age of my target audience is right for my media product because it’s around the age that music is a big influence on people’s lives, and the age that would be eager to see popular music live in concert or at festivals. The target audience of my magazine are the age of students, either at college or possibly studying at university; music being a largely dominated part of their lives, through relaxing, studying and even partying.

This photo includes a member of the target audience reading my magazine. My target audience would buy my magazine as I have used several conventions from existing media, to make my mag look effective and as constructive as possible. For example I have used attractive and eye catching fonts from big and bold to detailed or basic used in potentially every music magazine. The font in my article is appealing as it is different as it looks similar to a stencil: however as similar fonts have been used in existing magazines such as Clash, the audience may recognise this and want to purchase my magazine.

The age of 23 is the older end of my target audience because around that age is when people may start to settle down

and have a family, possibly decreasing the influence of music in their lives. The UK Tribes that I identified to suit my genre

of music magazine is Mainstream and Aspirant. They are addicted with buying the latest and most popular trends.

Music and fashion is what they are most obsessed with. Popular fashion from shops such as Topshop, River Island

and Miss Selfridges and the latest music listened to on Capital FM, Prime Time TV and Radio One. These tribes

listen to the most popular and recently trending music such as Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran.

The audience profiles created in the process of my research; also contribute to the target audience for my music magazine. Both male and female examples are within the age range of my audience, both being either side of 16-23. However, despite the gap in age they still share similar hobbies, occupation and music and fashion styles. Both the examples enjoy listening to the latest pop music including Justin Bieber, Rita Ora and Ed Sheeran. Their interests are also quite similar as they both enjoy fashion and sport which is a main aspect within the UK Tribes; Aspirant and Mainstream. Brain Whitaker appears to wear a Ralph Lauren cap in one of his photos, a brand that was used in my mood board for fashion research; he also wears Timberlands in another photograph, indicating another factor as to why he would fit into the target audience for a pop magazine. Cara Delevignemodels for labels such as Burberry and Chanel, and has featured on the cover of fashion magazine, Vogue. Some of the target audience for my magazine will also apply to these media products too as young girls from the ages of 16 and onwards love fashion and take inspiration from models such as Cara herself.
