Evaluation 3: What have you learned from your audience feedback? Introduction Throughout my coursework, I used copious amounts of feedback from my audience to provide a helpful influence and to guide my ideas, on how to make my products the best they could possibly be. This influence occurred both pre and post-production. Another reason for following this approach was to ensure my work appealed to my target audience, by fulfilling their expectations and adhering to the genre that they chose to define the soundtrack as. Finally, I collected my feedback in various formats; this allowed me gain the most diverse feedback but still keeping within the parameters of my audience. How was my Audience Feedback applied to my products? Firstly, I had to listen and take in all forms of feedback from all different types of people (so long as they fell within the specified target audience). Through this approach, I was able to make sure that both my music video and its ancillary products, effectively appealed to my target audience; this bared a great importance on how my end products were appealing to the audience. What did I use to gain Audience Feedback? Most audience feedback was gained through social media and online surveys. Despite this, I also received word of mouth feedback (which I noted down) from experts, as well as questionnaires. Here are the products that I used (imagery): Focus Group Feedback Due to my focus group not being experts within this field of media, often, I’d conduct a simple online survey or post the Music Video and ancillary’s and ask for comments and recommendations. My focus group primarily consists of Teenagers to Young Adults of both genders. Here are some examples of what questions they answered and feedback I received; as well as, how I applied it to my work to make a difference.

Introduction Throughout my coursework, I used copious amounts of feedback from my audience to provide a

helpful influence and to guide my ideas, on how to make my products the best they could possibly

be. This influence occurred both pre and post-production. Another reason for following this

approach was to ensure my work appealed to my target audience, by fulfilling their expectations and

adhering to the genre that they chose to define the soundtrack as. Finally, I collected my feedback in

various formats; this allowed me gain the most diverse feedback but still keeping within the

    parameters of my audience.

Here are the products that I used (imagery):

Focus Group Feedback Due to my focus group not being experts within this field of media, often, Id conduct a simple online survey or post the Music Video and ancillarys and ask for comments and recommendations. My focus group primarily consists of Teenagers to Young Adults of both genders. Here are some examples of what questions they answered and feedback I received; as well as, how I applied it to my work to make a difference.

  • I asked for some feedback regarding continuity with my music video and digipak; heres a couple of replies I received (from Facebook and Twitter).

Here are the results of this feedback:

Earlier on during the project, my first draft received positive reviews, but often, I found my focus

group had difficulty differentiating the narrative from the performance. Some even interpreted the

clip as entirely as performance based, such as a Commercial Exhibitionist (this feedback was

collected from the comments on my Blogger):

It seemed one of the main reasons was due to the two locations from which the music video was

set, were deemed too similar. Through this feedback, I took the bold step to refilm the entire music

video from a set of locations. Another reason for this (as told above) was due to some unnecessary

props seen in the first draft that didnt bare any relevance. By filming in a new location I had more

control over what was and what wasnt in each room.

    Original New

    Colours reminiscent of

music videos colour. Bottle and Black Box

    appear.

  • This question revolved around how greatly my audience thought the lyrics matched the visuals (answers collected via SurveyMonkey):

The result of this feedback gave me great confidence in the music video I created, this ensured that I no longer need to record any additional footage, or plan another segment of the music video; due to 70% of my focus group assessing that the lyrics in the soundtrack match the visuals of the music video very well. Heres the feedback I received via YouTube comments from the second draft of my Music Video:

Expert Feedback I took a more intimate approach regarding my expert feedback, I spoke to them word of mouth, as well as giving them questionnaires but letting them answer freely by giving them more room to comment. This was because I highly valued their comments and was very likely to make amendments to my music video and ancillarys if this was recommended by them. An example of expert feedback is this: I was recommended by my Media Studies teacher that I should add the

  • record labels signed to my artist, that were present on my digipak to both my magazine and the end of my music video. Here are the results: Original blank end screen. New end screen, displaying record labels.

Original blank spot in the corner. New spot now filled with record labels. I was also told by a fellow student that: The colours and lighting change quite frequently and sometimes make it difficult to see the artist. Colour correcting most of the scenes will likely remedy this. So I went back to my music video on Sony Vegas Pro 12 and colour corrected each clip. Original, darker; less saturated. New, lighter; vibrant.

Final Feedback Once I had made all of the above changes, I gave my focus group a survey regarding the entirety of the project: The two questions asked revolved around any changes made to my music video and whether this made my products more effective or ineffective. The first question was: Have you noticed any changes with the music video? If yes, has this improved the music video?; some of the responses are as follows:

  • This proves that following all of the previous feedback was met with the intended successful results. As my audience can see the improvements on the music video that I had previously remedied. Question two is: How effective is the synergy of the products?, this obviously was a very vital question to my coursework as I required synergy to make a professional and successful project. The chart below displays how effective my audience thought this attempt at synergy was:

Once again, this proves that my previous feedback has led to my successfully intended results.

    Conclusion

Did I choose the correct target audience? Based upon my feedback and findings, I am more than happy with my chosen target audience. They enjoyed consuming all three of my products and provided very helpful feedback to make consuming the later versions even more enjoyable. I am also confident based upon my research that this was psychologically the correct audience to choose: through, being aware of their choice of music consumption, age, gender and other factors.

Evaluation of the Question: Throughout my coursework I have used audience feedback as a means to remedy any errors in my work or gain a greater perspective on what my audience wish to consume. I have listened to all forms of feedback, both negative and positive and it has helped my coursework highly. I have used multiple methods of gaining feedback both online and in person to gain the maximum variety, whilst staying within my focus group. I also isolated the expert feedback and this was the most knowledgeable feedback I could receive from a Media perspective. Overall, I am incredibly happy with the feedback I have received across the course and what how I have applied it to all of my products.
