GENRE/PLOT FOR RULES AND REGULATIONS OF FRIENDSHIP: I chose the romantic-Comedy genre, at first I wanted to just go for romance but as my plot started

to appear I realised it was more of a romantic comedy than just a romance story. The trailer follows the typical childhood friends storyline that you see in lots of romantic-comedies

with a slight plot change. The plot change is not shown in the trailer as I have the personal belief that if you show all of the most interesting/funny parts of a film in the trailer the audience will find the film boring when they watch it. So by not showing the plot twist it will take the audience by complete surprise. Out of the three films that inspired me two of the films’ main characters had been friends since they were young or had been best friends for awhile, but it was Love, Rosie’s narrative that inspired me the most. I found it the funnier out of the two films and due to the age of the characters at the start of the film I found it more appropriate for my thinking.Storyline- The same as all other romance films, it’s a boy meets girl and they don’t understand their feelings for each other. In this case they have been friends forever and throughout the film they will realise that they love each other. The comedy aspect will come from the 2 main protagonists doing ‘dopey’ things or getting themselves into awkward or silly situations. You can see this storyline template in many existing films today, the films that inspired me to create my project were: • Love, Rosie• Friends with Benefits • The Ugly Truth

STRUCTURE OF ROMANTIC-COMEDY TRAILERS…LOVE, ROSIE VS RULES AND REGULATIONS OF FRIENDSHIP

Page 4: Evaluation 1

STRUCTURE As you can see in the previous slide I have screenshotted some of the shots

from the trailer of Love, Rosie and my own trailer. The reason I chose those particular shots was I think you can see a link between the two trailers, even though the template for each of them are very different.

I have followed the codes and conventions of the romantic comedy genre by introducing the two characters at the very start ( screenshot of their names) and to follow I have shown in some way that the two have been friends from a young age. In the Love, Rosie trailer they did this by extra scenes of children from a young age( these scenes weren’t included in the actual film) whereas, I decided to use photographs that I had taken of children and manipulated on Photoshop to make them look as if they were together.• I feel like I have complied with many of the codes and conventions of the genre and the

type of trailer, yet I have managed to creatively play with them making my trailer more unique and stand out from the generic ‘boy meets girl’. I think my USP (unique selling point is the template of my trailer, how it goes through the rules instead of the usual way a trailer runs through. By doing this I hope to draw in more viewers and make them want to find out more about the film, so thereby them going to see it in the cinemas.

TITLES AND CREDITS… In my trailer I have gone with both, my reasoning for this

is well why not! In some trailers they only have the actors names and in some trailers they only have the characters names in the credits. When I was adding in the credits to my trailer I played around with the idea of having just one, then the other and both and I decided that it worked best by announcing the actors names and the characters names. I decided to add in ‘starring’ as I didn’t want my viewers to get confused as there would be four names and only two main characters.

From looking at other trailers within the genre I saw that they kept the typography the same throughout all of the titles and credits, I decided to follow that template as it helps to create the brand image. For the titles and credits I have chosen a bold font as I think it helps make it stand out, the ugly truth and love, Rosie trailers helped inspire me to make that decision.

SOUNDTRACK CHARACTER

Love, Rosie have used Chocolate by the 1975 who are a hip-indie band. I agree with their song choice and it inspired me to find one like it on Soundcloud. I have used ‘smoke signals by DG and truly yours by cannon’. Both of these songs are indie and happy hence why I think that they fit well with the events of the film and make the trailer seem more bubbly.

I think that both of my characters are most similar to Rosie and Sam out of all of the films I based mine around. They are the youngest and have been friends the longest, which is what I was aiming for with my project.

VOICEOVERIn most romantic-comedy trailers there are voiceovers, even if they’re just a one line. In my trailer I have used voice overs throughout to make it seems as if the characters themselves were reading out the rules of friendship to the audience,. My reasoning for doing this was I though it might make the trailer feel more personal.
