NEW FREQUENCY PIN RULES
Please review president notes. Wil l be discussed at
General Meeting
The flying activities at the field are in
ful l swing & all three of our flying
venues are getting a good workout.
For the most part the field is in good shape. We
had a first pass at fixing our drainage issues that
has eroded portions of our main runway. Jim
Waterman was kind enough to lend his skil ls and
tractor digging a trench on the north & east side of
the runway. He could not finish due to the wet soil
and his backhoe sinking in the dirt. Thanks to Verl in
for pul l ing him out. We’l l be getting back in to do a
final cut on the drainage ditch sometime in
December. After that we’l l start working on cleaning
up the runway. We’re also working on rebuilding the
five fl ight stations that are getting a l ittle long in the
tooth.
This month we’l l be electing three officers positions
on our Board of Directors for EVA. We have one
candidate for each position, thankful ly, but would
l ike to see additional support with other candidates
to help provide the leadership for our club. The club
enjoys having a wonderful venue for our flying as
well as other activities throughout the year. Many
hours of meetings & planning go into the
maintenance and continuance of the club. I t would
be great to see some new faces step up and
contribute their time & talents. We have over 300
members and I know there are many talented folks
out there who could benefit the club. That being
said, I want to express my appreciation to the
current board for their support & hard work this past
year. We’ve accomplished many things and I know
the club members appreciate it.
Our annual Fry & Fly this year was a great success.
We had about 1 06 people participate and enjoyed
the great spread. Many thanks to Mickey Ohland
for frying and carving five turkeys as well as to al l
those who brought sides to add to the table. This
event seems to grow every year.
There have been some concerns at the field lately
of making sure only club members in good standing
(i .e. , pay your dues and maintain your AMA
membership) are actual ly flying. With our large
membership it is hard to know everyone and a few
members have voiced their concerns about this. In
the past we’ve had a “frequency control board” that
served two purposes. One was to make sure only
one person was on a live frequency band and the
other was to see who is flying and make sure they
are club members. The use of the 2.4 broadband
frequency, used by the majority of our club
members, negates the purpose of the frequency
control board, except for the few folks not flying on
2.4. So what the board has decided to do is that al l
members that fly on 2.4 wil l no longer be required to
place their membership badge on the frequency
control board and grab and display a frequency pin.
For members that fly on 2.4, we’re requiring that
you just wear your membership badge
conspicuously whenever you fly in any of the three
fl ight venues we have. For NON 2.4 flyers, we wil l
continue the existing practice of placing your badge
on the appropriate frequency you are using on the
frequency control board, and grabbing a pin and
displaying it. Hopeful ly this wil l help keep control of
who’s flying at our field as well as control l ing our
l iabi l ity and keep everyone safe.
Don’t forget our next club meeting on Wednesday,
December 5th at the usual place, Valley Del Orro.
See you on the fl ight l ineP

Florence, AZ - Nov 2012
TEAM EVA IMAC REPORTThe IMAC season ended just down the road at the Sun Lakes Radio Control Club on Nov 1 0 and 11
in Florence AZ. EVA fielded quite a team of pilots.
LINKAGES (Part 3 of 4) - Orthogonal l inkages
Now, lets move on to some not so good examples :-)
This is wrong, it wil l result in non linear movement of your control and a non linear effective servo
speed. I f this is for example the l inkage to your swash plate, you wil l end up with a very difficult to
control hel i since you introduced an "inverted exponential" in the control. This means that it wil l be very
difficult to hover the heli .
I f you ever want to introduce exponential , then make sure that it is such that the control output is less
around center, and more at the end of your stick movement. You can program such an exponential on
nowadays TX's if you l ike. Again, be very careful if you are dealing with CCPM.

Great Job John!!!Newsletter Featured Build
Ben Shereshaw 1 937 1 08” Champion from April 1 937 Flying Aces Magazine
Started with original FF plans and a Klarich short kit. Converted to 3-channel RC and electric
propulsion. Several changes were made from the original design such as reducing the dihedral from 24
to 1 5 degrees and making the wing two. Covering is HobbyKing lavender transparent and solid white.
Custom designed graphics from Call ie Graphics. Finished weight was 8 ½ lbs which resulted in a wing
loading of 1 2.8 oz/sq ft. Motor is an ExceedRC 5055 670Kv with 80A Turnigy Plush ESC on 4S
4000mah Lipo which gives 20mins of leisurely flying. Guidance is provided by Futaba 8UAP. As can be
seen in the airborne pics, it real ly glows in the overhead sunlight! ! A complete build log can be found on

EVA membership renewal for year
201 3 started October 1 st and ends
December 31 , 201 2. This time
frame coincides with AMA's renewal cycle. Both
AMA and EVA memberships must be current to
maintain flying privi leges at our field. To maintain
our field insurance the Arizona State Land Dept.
requires that is furnished by AMA, al l EVA
members must have a current membership in
AMA or MAAC.
This is the first time in club history that there is a
membership dues increase. 201 3 dues wil l be
$50.00 for adult members and $60.00 for family
membership renewal. New member application
or yearly renewal forms can be printed from the
EVA website, www.eastval leyaviators.org .
Using this form helps me keep the membership
record more accurate.
EVA financials are solid with $1 0,452.00 in cash
and $21 ,000.00 in the reserve fund. All bi l ls are
paid as of this date. In the next few years we
wil l have to replace the carpet, a big bil l , another
reason for the dues increase. Also, work wil l be
done on the main runway to replace dirt lost from
erosion over the past few years. Gravel needs to
be replace in the entrance gate area and on the
road in. Lots to do to maintain our field.
IMPORTANT!!
New membership applications are available at
the field or on l ine at www.eastval leyaviators.org
Encourage new people to apply for membership
in EVA, be sure the new person has a current
AMA number. I cannot make a club badge
unless I have his current AMA number. EVA does
not prorate membership dues at any time during
the year. Dues are only $50.00 for an individual,
$60.00 for a family ( spouse and children 1 7 or
younger ) per year.
Send renewals and applications to:
East Valley Aviators

Phoenix, AZ 85044
AMA renewal or enrol lment can be done quite
easily on their website; www.modelaircraft.org,
go to membership services and click on
membership renewal. Also by phone: 1 -800 435-
9262, they wil l give you your AMA number if you
pay by credit card. Also, a verification form wil l
be sent to you by FAX or email .
Happy flying and smooth landings, lets al l enjoy
a great hobby.

Treasurer's ReportSubmitted By Verlin Boeder
Hello fel low EVA R/C modelers.
Just in case you haven't noticed, it's
been really nice out the past few
weeks with daytime temps in the high 70s and
mid 80s. With the return of our friends from
places much cooler, the field is getting busier
and busier--just the way we like it. During the
summer months, when there are very few
members flying, pi lots tend to get a l ittle lax on
safety so lets al l get a good start to the year and
be safe, leave the Summer "bad habits" behind.
A couple Saturdays ago EVA hosted a
successful pylon racing event. Lots of fun,
action, carnage, close racing, and excitement.
The final race consisted of six race-planes at
once. We did have one mid-air col l ision with
much damage done to both planes. The pilots
and callers were safe however. Helmets are
required to be worn by the pilots during the races
just in case parts fly into the pilot station. The
only injury was suffered by "Yours Truely" When
my hand brushed against the sharp-edged prop
cutting my finger, the engine wasn't even running
at the time.
I have written several times in safety articles
about propeller safety. One of the most frequent
mishaps I see or hear about comes from arming
electric planes in the pit area. Several weeks
ago a member, who is usually very safe, armed a
model to work on it while working on a pit table.
The motor started up cutting his hand and
several fingers. He bled for quite awhile and the
incident pretty much ruined his day. I f you feel
you must arm an airplane while in the pit area to
check the control surface movement etc. All you
have to do to make the plane safe to work on is
remove the prop! Easily done and safe.
Unti l next time, be safe not sorry. Safety is no
accident.
