Posture When it comes to good health, where do you stand?

1

For example about 8 in 10 people suffer from

one or more bouts of lower back pain, often

leading to time off work.

Non-specific lower back pain is very common,

often comes on without specific injury and is

frequently caused and maintained by bad

postural habits either at work or at home. This

can often lead to compensation in other parts

of the muscular skeletal system causing pain.

Here at The Centre we specialise in not just

restoring muscular skeletal function, but in

discovering the ‘root cause’ of the problem to

help maintain and prevent future bouts of pain.

We achieve this by educating you about how

to improve your posture with a treatment and

exercise plan. How you sit or lift within your

working environment will have an impact in your long-term muscular skeletal health. This

2

may include referral for yoga sessions to

further strengthen and protect.

Another cause of illness and time off work is

stress. Stress can hit anyone at any level of the

business and recent research shows that work

related stress is widespread and is not

confined to particular sectors, jobs or

industries. Here at The Centre we are well

equipped to provide a Stress Management

Package tailored to your individual needs.

This will include muscular skeletal treatment,

as stress very often leads to physical

discomfort.

Osteopathy is a distinct approach to healthcare based on a well-established system of clinical diagnosis. Osteopath’s focus on the structure of the body, using safe and natural manual treatment that offers a non-invasive approach tailored to the individual needs of each patient…at every stage of life from birth to old age.

Predominantly gentle, manipulative techniques are used to correct joint and tissue imbalances, allowing restoration of balance within the patient’s body. Osteopathy treats the person not just the disorder.

Osteopathy…

GOsC registered Osteopaths who are available for consultations and treatment of a wide range of muscular/skeletal complaints at The Centre six days a week.

We also run a ‘Free Spinal Check’ service, which is a 20-minute consultation for patients to meet the Osteopath and to discuss their needs.

We advocate that prevention is better than cure and that frequent maintenance or an ‘MOT’ is just as important as care for acute episodes.

Wenda works with adults and children of all ages including babies. People attend her clinic with a broad range of illnesses and diseases, both emotional and physical.

The idea behind homeopathy is that the medicine matches the individual as a whole rather than just taking the details of a set of symptoms.

Wenda trained in London at the London College of Homeopathy for four years. She has been practicing at The Centre in Hythe for some years now and is also practicing at her clinic in the West End of London.

Homeopathy…

Our Homeopath:

Wenda Holland BSc (Hons), Diploma in Social Science, Licentiate of College of Practical Homeopathy, Member of the Alliance of Homeopaths.

Homeopathy is a very old form of medicine used for hundreds of years and used widely throughout the world. Many people are turning to this form of medicine because they are looking for a drug-free solution to managing their health.

The medicines are very pleasant to take and dissolve quickly on the tongue and have no side effects, unlike conventional drugs, so are completely safe for pregnant women, babies and children to take.

Homeopathic medicine is non-toxic and non-addictive and it can be taken on its own or alongside conventional medicine.

Acupuncture…

Our Acupuncturist:

Dianne Stewart McBa MA BA

Acupuncture is a safe and natural approach to health and wellbeing. It has been used in Far Eastern countries such as China for more than 2000 years and in more recent times has found more popularity in the UK. Acupuncture involves inserting very fine needles to improve the body’s natural flow and balance. This enables and stimulates the body to heal itself or maintain health in a safe and natural way.

Acupuncture needles, unlike needles used in conventional medicine, are very fine and not hollow so the patient will feel no pain at all when the needles are inserted.

Dianne trained in Acupuncture and Herbs at the London Academy of Oriental Medicine. She qualified in 1996. This was a four-year course encompassing meditation, Tai Qi and Qi Gong to enhance the study of Acupuncture and Herbs.

She is registered with the British Acupuncture Council and the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine.

Dianne believes that a great benefit of Acupuncture is that it deals with the whole person. Underlying health is improved, not just the symptoms and benefits emotional/spiritual as well as physical need.

Yoga…

Our Yoga Instructor:

Chris Yorke Since 2001

Yoga helps develop a positive, relaxed approach to everyday life and an overall sense of wellbeing. As our bodies begin to show the signs of daily wear and tear, yoga can be the ideal exercise.

Low impact and non-competitive, invigorating rather than exhausting, it can increase your fitness, reduce stress, tone your body and optimse your health.

The ancient discipline of yoga can be practiced at any time of life.

Chris has practiced Yoga since 1987 and has taught since 2001. She completed her Yoga teacher training with Jenny Beeken and the Inner Yoga Trust, which is accredited by the British Wheel of Yoga. In more recent years Gary Carter and Peter Blackaby have influenced her in the Scaravelli tradition. Chris is a full member of the BWY, holds a first aid certificate and is fully insured. In 2008 she also qualified as a Thai Massage Therapist and she feels this has given her a greater understanding of how the body moves.

In order to maintain her teaching qualification and for her own personal development, she attends on-going training in different aspects of teaching.
