Bratislava, the capital of Slo-vakia, is situated directly onthe banks of the Danube, inthe “Corner of Three Coun-tries”–Slovakia, Hungary andAustria.

Pannonia and Lake BalatonA region with a great cultural past

The name of Pannonia datesback as long ago as the Ro-man times and has alwaysbeen a region of great culturalachievement and culinary in-dulgence. Pannonia, with Cen-tral Europe’s biggest lake in itscentre, has something to offerfor every liking: dining, bat-hing, hiking, castles & fortres-ses and, of course, lots ofgood wine!

Day 1: Arrival in Sopron. In the after-noon enjoy a guided walkingtour through this small town lo-cated on the Austro-Hungarianborder. A climb up the ‘Fire-watch Tower’, the symbol ofthe city, is an absolute must,as you’ll enjoy a fantastic pan-orama from its top with all theremains of Sopron’s ‘GoldenAge’ at your feet: City Hall,Storno House, the GoatChurch, where coronationsand parliamentary sessionstook place, the Holy TrinityStatue and the neo-gothicUrsuline Church.

Day 2: Full day guided tour in thedirection of Lake Neusiedl. Vi-sit the largest and most splen-did baroque mansion in thecountry, Esterhàzy Kastély, the‘Hungarian Versailles’ in Fer-töd. Here the composer Jo-seph Haydn spent more than adecade as the court composerof the Esterhazy family, one ofthe most influential dynastiesof imperial Austria. Continueon to Nagycenk to visit Szé-

chenyi Mansion, the home ofCount István Széchenyi (1791-1860), an outstanding politici-an in the ‘Era of Reforms’ befo-re 1848. From the mansion’sGloriette you can enjoy a ma-gnificent view over Lake Neu-siedl. Drive back to the vicinityof Sopron for a horse-drawncarriage ride and snack beforereturning to your hotel.

Day 3: Drive from Sopron to Pannon-halma. The Benedictine Abbeyof Pannonhalma, ‘the mostancient Hungarian house’, is atreasure trove of Hungarianarchitecture on the hill of St.Martin and as such is a listedmonument on the UNESCOWorld Heritage List. The libra-ry hosts one of Europe’s wealt-hiest monastery libraries.Continue on to Herend to visitone of the oldest porcelain fac-tories, once fulfilling the ordersof several European royalcourts. You then arrive at yourhotel in the area of Lake Balaton.

Slovakia is just a small countryin the heart of Europe, yet ishome to many unique sitesand monuments, many ofwhich have already been re-cognized as sites of culturalheritage by UNESCO. Thistour aims to show you some ofthe highlights, which this coun-try has to offer.

Day 1: Morning arrival in Bratislava.Check in to your hotel, then inthe afternoon enjoy a guidedwalking tour through the histo-ric heart of the city. Overnightin Bratislava.

Day 2: This morning drive to the townof Banska Stiavnica which, ac-cording to legend, owes its na-me to a small lizard whichcrept out of the ground cover-ed in silver and gold. Enjoy avisit to the mining museum inthe town, followed by a shortwalk through the centre, befo-re continuing to Kremnica. InKremnica you can visit theMint Museum, where guestsare also offered the opportuni-ty to mint their own coins. Thejourney then continues toBanska Bystrica, where a strollthrough the centre will showyou just how wealthy the townonce was; on the main squarealone you will find examples ofarchitecture spanning morethan seven centuries. Day 3: Part of today’s journey to Cier-ny Balog will be carried out by

narrow gauge railway throughthe woods. In Dobsina visit theice caves, where you can findground ice, ice falls, ice stalag-mites and pillars; one particu-lar highlight is a visit to theDomica Cave with a subterra-nean boat ride on the RiverStyx. The cave also has anumber of small inhabitants –16 different kinds of bat havebeen found living here! Con-tinue to Kosice for overnightaccommodation.

Day 4: The day begins with a guidedwalk through the old town ofKosice, home to one of themost significant preserved ur-ban sites in Slovakia. On theway to Bardejov see the nu-merous wooden churcheswhich are also part of the na-tional cultural heritage. Enjoy awalk through Bardejov, themost original Gothic town inSlovakia, before continuing toLevoca your home for the next2 nights.

Day 5: Start the day with a tour of Le-voca, an ancient royal townwith a glorious past. Followinga short stop in Kezmaroc theexcursion leads you to theSpis Country. The Spis Castleis one of the largest castlecomplexes in the whole ofEurope with an areal of morethan 4 hectars. The cathedralof St. Martin already catchesthe eye in the distance.

Day 6: After breakfast, drive the pan-oramic route (road toll) toStrbske Pleso, where you canadmire the second largestmountain lake in the High Tatramountains. Continue to SvatyKriz, home of one of the lar-gest wooden churches inEurope which has room for upto 6000 people. Finally conti-nue to Trencin, the only placein Slovakia whose existencecan be traced back to Romantimes. The day ends with avisit to the town and the castle.Overnight in Trencin.

Day 7: Departure.

While visiting the cas-tle you will be able to take inthe views of the valley belowwhile hearing the stories of itsearlier inhabitants. In the after-noon we recommend a visit tothe charming medieval town ofRattenberg. With approx. 440inhabitants and 11 hectaresarea, this is the smallest townof Austria. Day 1: Arrival at the Seehotel Herlin-de in Podersdorf am See, sit-uated on the shores of LakeNeusiedl – the most easterly“steppen lake” of Europe. Theperfect setting for a relaxingholiday.

Day 2: Start the day with some time toexplore your surroundings onLake Neusiedl. An escort willlead you to the national park“Seewinkel”. South Tyrolwith the Dolomites

Haydn and his life in Austria2009 the 200th anniversary of his death

In 2009 music lovers all overthe world will be paying tributeto one of the world’s greatestcomposers to mark the 200thanniversary of his death, Jo-seph Haydn (1732-1809).When he went into retirementhe embarked on two highlysuccessful trips to England,where he was later awardedan honorary doctorate at the university of Oxford.

Day 1: Arrival at your centrally located4-star hotel in Vienna. Dinnerin the hotel.

Day 2: This morning’s sightseeingtour will introduce you to thebeautiful city of Vienna. Firstdrive along the Ringstrasse,the tree-lined boulevard whichencircles the historic innerheart of the city, and admirethe many magnificent buil-dings: the State Opera House,the Imperial Palace (Hofburg),the Museums of Fine Art andNatural History, Parliament andthe Town Hall. The real high-light of the tour will be a visit toSchönbrunn Palace, the sum-mer residence of the Austrianimperial family and a must forevery first-time visitor to Vien-na, where a guided tour throughthe state apartments will letyou breath in the pomp andsplendour of the Austrian past.Why not enjoy lunch in the tra-ditional Restaurant Residenzin the grounds of SchönbrunnPalace, before returning to thecentre of the city where youcan visit the Haydn House, not

Enjoy lunch in a tradi-tional restaurant in Eisenstadt,then continue across the near-by Austro-Hungarian border toFertöd. The Esterhazy Palaceof Fertöd lies southeast of La-ke Neusiedl and in 1766 thiswas the most spectacular pa-lace in Hungary and certainlyinspired Haydn in much of hiswork. Enjoy a guided tourthrough the 23 rooms of thepalace before returning toVienna. Alternatively continuefrom Eisentstadt to the smalltown of Rust on the shores ofLake Neusiedl. 1. Accuracy of Brochure

The current brochure 2009/10 isvalid from 01 April 2009 until 31March 2010. All information inthe brochure is to the best of ourknowledge and belief correct atthe time of publication. How-ever, we reserve the right tomake changes to informationcontained within our brochureand will advise you of thesechanges at the point of bookingor when they are known to us.This advice will be limited to thatwhich is fundamental to the con-tract or which we believe mayaffect the enjoyment of yourholiday. However, we are sureyou will understand that at timescertain advertised facilities maynot be in operation and we mayhave no information or prior war-ning of such matters.

2.RatesAll rates are quoted per person

in Euro (€). We reserve the rightto increase rates without priornotification.

3. AcccommodationEurotours Ltd. is obliged to holdthe agreed accommodation foryou the client. Eurotours Ltd.cannot be held responsible forany impairment (e.g. insolvency,and other) to the services provi-ded which are beyond its con-trol, caused by a third party orevent of force majeure. In caseof doubt, the “Austrian Co-Operation Agreement” applies –or a subsequent agreement bet-ween hotels and tour operators.

4. Hotels and Roomsa) Properties in this brochurehave been carefully chosen andare considered to offer suitableaccommodation for the costshown. The star rating shown isthat of the national tourist autho-rity. Not all rooms will be thesame and room sizes will vary,particularly in older or historicalbuildings. Accommodation isprovided in standard rooms,

unless otherwise stated. Accor-ding to Austrian law, if a hotel isoverbooked, they are entitled toprovide alternative accommoda-tion for guests, providing thestandard and location are equi-valent or superior. Please notethat an Austrian Twin room isgenerally one large bed framewith 2 separate mattresses,separate blankets and pillows.

6. LiabilityWe accept responsibility for theacts and defaults of ouremployees and agents provi-ding they were at the time actingwithin the scope of their employ-ment or agency agreement. Wefurther accept responsibility forensuring your arrangements areproperly made. The tour opera-tor acts as an agent betweenthe passengers and the localsuppliers and cannot be heldresponsible for loss, damage orinjury to any person or property,or for any other irregularitiesbeyond our control. Such cir-cumstances include war, or thre-at of war, riot, civil strife, terroristactivity, adverse weather condi-tions, technical, mechanical orelectrical breakdowns within ahotel or any method of transport,industrial disputes, governmen-tal action, port regulations, time-table changes and all similar cir-umstances.

7. ComplaintsAny complaints or problemsmust be notified to us in resort,in writing as soon as it arises. Ifthe matter remains unresolved,you must write to us with fulldetails within 30 days of thecompletion of the arrange-ments. We regret we cannotaccept any responsibility for anyclaim not so notified to us within this timescale.

LegislationIn the case of insolvency Euro-tours Ltd. is covered by a bankguarantee from the SparkassaKitzbühel, Tirol, Austria. Euro-tours Ltd are also covered un-der the insurance bond for travelagents for the protection of themonies of their clients, accor-ding to the Travel Agency In-surance Law (RSV,BGBI.II /10from 15.01.98). The settlementof any possible claims is subjectto Austrian law. The court ofjurisdiction is Kitzbühel.
