Representing the UK is no easy feat. It takes hard work, determination

and a high level of skill. Each member of Team UK has displayed all of these

characteristics. By taking part in WorldSkills UK Competitions they have accelerated

their careers, achieving at a young age what many aspire to in an entire career. Now they

are ready for their biggest challenge to date. Taking on the most talented apprentices and

learners from all over Europe at EuroSkills Gothenburg 2016, the members of Team UK have

one aim – to prove they are best in Europe.

Participating in international skills competitions is vital for the UK’s economy. Combining

technical and soft skills, competitions help employers equip their apprentices with the right

attributes to enable businesses to compete better globally. Celebrating the success of our

apprentices and learners, here in the UK and internationally, allows us to showcase just how

skilled the UK is as a trading nation.

As we wish Team UK the very best of luck, I would like to thank those individuals and

organisations that provide ongoing support to the development of our competitors. Our

team of Experts are responsible for devising and managing the training of Team UK in

line with international standards. Our Team Leaders provide pastoral support for our

competitors. Special recognition must also go to the employers and training providers of

Team UK and to those organisations that give generously by providing materials and venues

for the training programmes we run. Without their ongoing support, the UK would not be

able to compete in international competitions.

Dr Neil Bentley

Chief Executive WorldSkills UK
