Objectives:

To improve access to justice for victims of violent crime suffered in pre-trial and immigration

detention by ensuring Directives 2011/29/EU and 20014/80/EC (“the Directives”) are implemented

and applied.

Activities:

The project focuses on the practical protections offered by the Directives for victims and actively

promotes implementation in the detention context by:

In-depth research into local practice in six Member States;

A survey of current practice across the EU region;

Local advocacy to engage key stakeholders in six Member States;

Regional advocacy to ensure a positive impact across the EU.

Improved protections and information for the 213,114 people in EU pre-trial and

immigration detention;

1,170 practitioners working fields relating to victim and detainee rights will be engaged and

provided with guidance on the Directives;

380 EU and domestic policy-makers engaged and informed on the effect of the Directives.

The EU public, particularly in six partner Member States, to benefit from greater rights

awareness for victims and the particular challenges victims in detention face.

Expected results:

Significantly increased knowledge of the Directives' rights across key stakeholders relating to

pre-trial and immigration detention;

Engagement of key stakeholders in collaborative work to improve protection and

implementation of detained victims’ rights;

Improved rights protection for victims and an increase of co-ordinated efforts to apply the

Directives’ standards across the EU.

Review of local law and practice in each partner Member State;

Local advocacy including country specific Guidance Notes, round-table meetings and media

campaigns;

Regional advocacy including policy meetings, a Regional Report and Regional Guidance Note

The overall goal of this project is to enhance access to compensation for victims of crime by

contributing to the effective implementation of EU legislation on the right to compensation at

national and European level.

for obtaining compensation to victims of crime and referral channels are functional

Expected results

The project aims to achieve the following results:

the quality of services provided on behalf of government institutions and professionals when

dealing with victims of violence and crime to be improved;

the education and knowledge of practitioners in the field to be enhanced; access to justice

and information provided to all victims to be ensured and safeguarded better by the

authorities;

to strengthen inter-services cooperation and to exchange good practices that will help in

shaping a more Victim support based system in each Country of the partnership.
