Welcome to the European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry 2015

On behalf of the Scientific and Organizing Committees, it is our pleasure to welcome you to the European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry in the City of Münster. The conference will provide an international forum to share knowledge and to exchange ideas on instrumentation, methods and applications based on analytical plasmas with colleagues from all over the world.

While plasma spectrochemistry has a rich and successful history, its future progress will crucially depend on the exchange between scientists from different disciplines. As is obvious from the large number of submitted abstracts on these contents, plasma spectrochemistry maintains its leading position in the materials sciences and the earth sciences, and expands significantly into the life sciences. Therefore, international and interdisciplinary research will be a driving force to address the challenges ahead. Our common aim is to catalyze these activities at the European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry 2015.

For this reason, we have planned ample time for discussions after the lectures as well as in the poster and exhibition areas. Lunch will be available in the university cafeteria, just a few steps away from the conference site. The manufacturers will provide product seminars after lunch to inform about their latest developments. The social programme includes a welcome reception after the initial evening lectures on Sunday, the conference dinner in Münster´s Zoo plus guided tours and other highlights on Monday, a guided city walk followed by various manufacturers´ events on Tuesday and the traditional Hot Plasma Party with life music on the shores of lake Aasee on Wednesday.

As young scientists are the future of our discipline, we have tried to stimulate their participation by low conference fees for graduate students, strongly discounted fees for the conference dinner and the Hot Plasma Party and by including a significant number of oral presentations held by young scientists. Poster prizes will be awarded as well to appreciate their contributions.

Finances always are an important issue for a conference of this size. Therefore, our particular thanks go to all sponsors and exhibitors of the symposium, who helped to keep registration affordable.

Let us all look forward to the European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry 2015 in the beautiful, historic city of Münster and let us hope that we will experience a rewarding and unforgettable symposium!

EWCPS 2015’s scientific committee and local organizers are pleased to announce that our recommended avenue for manuscript publication resulting from the presentations during the conference is in a special issue of Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry (JAAS).

Submitted papers based on oral or poster presentations given at EWCPS 2015 will be considered for publication as original research papers in JAAS (i.e. full papers and urgent communications).

Manuscripts for this special issue are asked to be submitted subsequent to the con-ference via the journal website www.rsc.org/jaas using the RSC electronic file upload service. Submitted manuscripts should be in the format laid out in the „Instructions to Authors“ available on the website (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ja).

the submission deadline will be april 10, 2015. Every effort will be made to include all accepted papers in the themed issue. However, accepted papers being not processed in time will be published in the next available printed JAAS issue, and included within the web collection of articles from the conference on the JAAS website.

Each manuscript deemed suitable for consideration as a submission will be subject to the established peer-review process and shall only be accepted if it fulfils the standards required for publication in JAAS.

Accepted papers will be published on the RSC website as Advance Articles as soon as they are ready. The printed issue is provisionally scheduled to be published in August 2015.

Conference dinner at Münster Zoo

On Monday evening, the conference dinner takes place at Münster Zoo, which is located pretty close to lake Aasee and presently being home for more than 3,100 animals. Münster Zoo, opened in 1974, is famous for being an „all weather zoo“, which means that enclosu-res are connected by canopied ways. Thus, visitors can walk for more than 1 km even when it is raining. Furthermore, on rainy days the zoo‘s inhabitants, from ara birds to zebras, may return into their houses where they can be watched by the visitors. Each year, around one million people from Germany and from neighbouring countries come to visit Münster Zoo. On today‘s evening, the zoo is exclusively opened for EWCPS 2015‘s conferees. Enjoy to walk around, to enjoy the aquarium, to feed the elephants, to fondle a snake, or just to take the opportunity to take part in one of the guided tours led by Münster Zoo staff. For those who need a rest, there are many places to sit down in different areas. Food and drinks are served at different locations in the zoo; a map provided to the conferees at the entrance will guide you to the restaurant and catering stations. Or just follow the illuminated paths to meet other EWCPS 2015 participants – close to the elephants, in the aquarium or in the horse museum....

Looking back to a history of more than 1200 years, Münster is full of historic buildings and places. A guided city tour (one hour) will lead you to Münster’s most famous attractions, e.g. the town hall where sections of the Tre-aty of Westphalia were negotiated or Münster cathedral which, in its present form, was built 750 years ago.

At 19.00, many sponsors and exhibitors are looking for-ward to welcoming you at their evening events taking pla-ce in and close to the city centre.

Please note that there will be no bus transportation back to the conference venue after the end of the guided city tour.

Hot Plasma Party at Café Uferlos (sponsored by Teledyne CETAC)

EWCPS 2015‘s scientific committee and the local organizers are glad to celebrate the last evening of our conference together with all of you at the traditional Hot Plasma Party. We shall have a selection of delicious food and drinks at the buffet and at the bar at Café Uferlos, which is situated pretty close to lake Aasee, a famous place of recreation in the very heart of Münster. From the Café’s terrace you have a marvellous view of the lake. The evening is accompanied by “Tiffany Club” playing live music not only during the buffet. So, do not miss this evening, and enjoy the buffet, the music as well as discussions and talks with colleagues and friends from all over the world.

Free bus transportation (included in your Hot Plasma Party ticket) from the conference venue to Café Uferlos starts at 19.00. As Café Uferlos is close to the city centre, no bus transpor-tation is provided at the end of the party.

At the end of a successful Conference, it is time to gather again in lecture hall building che-mistry to have some farewell drinks and to make final appointments with colleagues from all over the world to start up a research project or for a visit. Finally, you are invited to enjoy, at least for the last time in this week, some Westphalian food to brace you for your trip home.

Smoking is prohibited within all university buildings. It is kindly requested to smoke outside the buildings where ashtrays are placed to your convenience.

EWCPS 2015 provides one room with computers and internet access in lecture hall build-ing Chemstry. Wireless LAN is provided in both lecture hall buildings. Every EWCPS 2015 conferee will receive a username and password upon registration on site at the conference office, with which access to all LAN/WLAN facilities is possible. This account expires at the end of EWCPS 2015. You shall also receive a detailed instruction in which the configuration procedure is described. If you need help with the configuration procedure, our staff mem-bers will gladly assist you.

» coffee and lunch breaKs

Coffee, tea and refreshments will be served in the exhibition areas in lecture halls Chemistry and Physics throughout the conference. Coffee and refreshments are included in the regis-tration fee. The university cafeteria (mensa) is five minutes walking distance from lecture hall buildings Chemistry and Physics.

upon registration, all ewcps 2015 participants receive lunch vouchers for monday, tuesday and wednesday for the university cafeteria. all vouchers include a main dish, three side dishes and one non-alcoholic beverage. You may select between different menus in the university cafeteria.

Lectures and Vendor SeminarsLectures and vendor seminars are given in lecture halls C1, C2, A1 (lecture hall building Chemistry) and HS1, HS2 (lecture hall building Physics). Please follow the signs in the con-ference buildings to find the respective session halls.

morning speakers are kindly requested to provide their presentation on USB by the end of the day before their lecture will be given.

afternoon speakers are kindly requested to provide their presentation on USB by the be-ginning of the lunch break.

In all session rooms, EWCPS 2015’s technical staff shall assist you in installing your pres-entation. The conference PCs and laptops are equipped with Windows 8 and PowerPoint Version 2013.

Poster Sessionsposter session i (monday session) shall be mounted on Sunday, February 22, 2015 from 12.00 – 19.00, but at the latest until Monday, February 23, 2015 at 8.30. Poster Session I authors are kindly requested to be present at their posters on Monday from 14.00 to 15.00. Poster Session I posters will be removed by EWCPS 2015 staff and can be picked up at the respective poster board on Tuesday, February 24 until 8.30.

Poster Award SessionThe poster award session is scheduled on Thursday, February 26, 2015 from 13.10 to 13.30. A poster jury will view all posters and select the three best posters from each poster session.

Bus Connections to the City Centre and to Münster Main Station

The fastest way to go to the city centre is by bus. The bus stop next to the symposium building is “Coesfelder Kreuz” near the university cafeteria (mensa). Buses departing from the mensa side ride to destinations outside the city centre, buses departing from the side opposite to the mensa ride to the city centre and to Münster main station. Information about the bus schedule is available at the conference office. bus tickets that are valid for mün-ster city during ewcps 2015 are included in your conference bag.

Bus Connections from Münster Main Station to Münster-osnabrück international Airport (FMo)Buses regularly ride from Münster main station to FMO airport. Bus line S50 departs from platform B3 always at 20 min past the hour (scheduled transfer time: 35 min). Bus line R51 departs from platform B3 always at 10 min to the hour (scheduled transfer time: 49 min). A ticket to FMO airport is € 6.90 (zone 5). please note that the bus ticket included in your conference bag is not valid for a ride to the airport.

Train Connections from Münster Main Station to düsseldorf international Airport (dUS)A ride to Düsseldorf International Airport by train takes approximately 90 to 110 min. (For most train connections from Münster to Düsseldorf airport, you have to change the train one time).
