About us

Mykolas Romeris University is a modern and dynamic institution seeking to have a well-established position in the European higher education. The mission of the University is to deliver high quality education, to accumulate and nourish intellectual potential, to train society’s leaders capable of creating and implementing innovations which influence the overall progress. Mykolas Romeris University focuses on Social and Information Technology Sciences - studies and research are carried out in the fields of Economics, Finance Mana-gement, Law, Public Management and Administration, Political Science, Social Policy, Psychology, Educology, and Social Work, according to the major principles of the Bologna process. The second largest university in Lithuania currently enrolls around 21,000 students in more than 70 study programmes leading to Bachelor, Master or Doctoral Degree. All graduates are issued with the Diploma supplement, the model of which was developed by the European Commission, Council of Europe and UNESCO/CEPES in order to improve international transparency and fair academic and professional recognition of qualifications. The University applies credit accumulation system compatible to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) in all study fields.

various European, national and international programmes such as Erasmus, Grundtvig, Asia-Link, Framework 7 that support mobility and other projects involving joint collaboration for curriculum development, academic exchange, and research.The University carries out Joint International Law Master Programme and Joint Master’s Programme in Comparative Social Policy and Welfare which involve close cooperation with the European partner universities and offer the graduates better career opportunities in Lithuania and the EU.IAU Annual Conference 2010 on “Ethics and Values in Higher Education in the Era of Globalization: What Role for the Disciplines?” is organized on June 25-26, 2010 at Mykolas Romeris University.

Excellence in Research

Mykolas Romeris University is one of the research leaders in Social Sciences in Lithuania. Research is implemented at international, national and institutional levels. Following the principle of study-science unity, research at the University is being conducted in the major research areas: Strengthening of Lithuanian Economic Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Social Cohesions; Multilevel Governance; Development of Human Resources: Challenges for Social Policy, Rule of Law and Social Cohesion in the Twenty-First Century; Effective Public Administration. Research carried out at the University is inseparable from the national and EU research priorities; furthermore, it meets Master and Doctoral study needs. At the University an enormous attention is paid to the development of general and transferable skills of young researchers. Administration (EDAMBA).Young researchers together with doctoral candidates of the University have formed research networks involving interdisciplinary researches and discussions on relevant research issues. Lithuania‘s Ministry of Education and Science recognized three University non-formal academic groups as Centers of Research Excellence: Applied Psychological Experimental Center; Governmental Law Academic Investigative Center and the Community Welfare Investigative Center.

University Open for Society

According to its mission, the University seeks to be an active player of the society. As a member of the Knowledge Society Forum, Mykolas Romeris University fosters discussions with the public, organizes seminars and conferences, provides with the possibilities of life-long learning. A variety of study forms is offered, for instance, competence improvement, special training, distance learning courses and programmes. Not only academic staff, administration and students are involved in the management of the University, but also representatives of the social partners take part in the University’s life by being members of the Council, which is the body of public supervision and support. Students and lecturers provide counseling to habitants at the Legal Aid Centre and Psychological Service. Young Financier’s, Lawyer’s, Politician’s, Leadership, and Career Development Academies invite high school pupils to develop their skills and broaden their knowledge. Student life in Mykolas Romeris University is diverse and enriching. Student Representative Body supports and advocates the interests of students, as well as seeks to ensure the study quality together with the administration of the University. Mykolas Romeris university is based in Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania. Established by Grand duke Gediminas in 1323, Vilnius is nominated as a European Capital of culture 2009. On this occasion, the University Network’s of the European Capitals of Culture (UNeECC) General Assembly and Conference on “Innovation, Creativity and Culture” will be hosted Mykolas Romeris University on October 22-23, 2009.Vilnius is already a very vital and active centre of politics, culture, research and education in Lithuania and by presenting national and local culture through numerous international cultural projects to other European nations is becoming widely known and visible world city. Student House

Mykolas Romeris University offers accommodation for international students on campus – at student residence hall Student House – a twelve floor modern building. It takes 5 minutes on foot to come to the main University building.

Library

Mykolas Romeris University Library is a contemporary and modern library that makes available printed publications as well as provides access to numerous data - bases and other information resources, analyses users’ information needs and renders appropriate services for the University students, doctoral students, research and teaching staff, and other University community members.

Internet cafes

You can find internet cafes in the main university buil-ding and in the dormitory or use computers in the library. Wireless internet connection covers the entire campus and it is free of charge. Also information kiosks are here for you to search in the university’s intranet at: www.mruni.eu.

Student cafeterias and canteen

Breakfast and lunch are available in 2 cafeterias or in the dining room located in the main building of the University and in the cafeteria at the “Student House”. It offers hot and cold meals / traditional Lithuanian dishes at very low price (you can have dinner for 1,5 – 3 EUR).

Sport facilitiesAll students can use University gym and sport halls. Students can take part in various sports, including different kinds of ball sports, martial arts and fitness.

Bachelor of Psychology

Introduction

Bachelor’s degree in Psychology offered by the Department of Psychology at Mykolas Romeris University is a full-time, four-year undergraduate programme targeted to the students who have secondary education or high education certificate. It gives students a comprehensive general coverage of the central topics of psychology. Courses provide students with the knowledge of research, theories, and their applications in psychology. The programme also gives an opportunity for some specialization through the optional courses. Students of psychology become sought-after professionals due to their ability to understand human behavior, collect, analyze, and interpret data, master statistics and experimental design. They also develop the competences to apply gained knowledge in pursuing their personal and professional goals.

About the Programme

The primary mission of Bachelor’s degree programme in Psychology is to provide a quality education that prepares students to enter a broad range of careers in psychology and related fields. Bachelor degree in Psychology is a prerequisite for the graduate programmes in different sub-specialities of this field, as well as professional psychologist or research and teaching career. Alternatively, with BSc in Psychology students can choose graduate programmes in other fields such as human resource management, social work, education, media and advertising, or healthcare. The programme follows the structure of subjects outlined in the Common Framework for European Psychologists’ Training (www.europsych.org).

Master of Public Administration

Introduction

Through its history, Public Administration (PA) has become an interdisciplinary programme by drawing from fields such as economics, sociology, anthropology, political science, and regional planning. The programme is targeted to students who wish to develop their skills and knowledge covering a broad range of topics and disciplines relevant to the public sector.

About the Programme

The course will focus on public administration at the local, state/provincial, national/federal and supranational levels, as well as in the non-profit sector. The students are supposed to gain knowledge about the basic principles and models of PA such as Traditional Public Administration and New Public Management. The course will include a substantial element of management education sitting alongside public policy and public administration.

Introduction

The EU’s newly launched European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) requires highly qualified political science specialists with a solid background in foreign and security affairs of the EU and their own national states. These will be individuals who can apply their skills in the regional integration at all levels in the framework of the ENP and contribute to the development of the enlargement policies in different domains (good neighborly relations, a promotion of political, democratic, economical, and social reforms in the neighboring EU countries). Furthermore, the development of competent human resources is crucial in order to strengthen research potential in the field of European Neighborhood Policy.

About the Programme

The aim of the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP) study programme is to train political science specialists who will be able to become engaged in an intellectually challenging work, devoted to the research, analysis and assessment of the political, economical as well as social processes in the neighboring EU countries and to provide prognoses and recommendations concerning the ENP and apply their EU-related knowledge and skills in practice.

Introduction

Information Technology (IT) Law Master’s Programme focuses on key legal issues posed by information and knowledge society – new legal phenomena (Internet, e-commerce, e-media, e-governance etc.). This postgraduate programme is targeted to the students who have legal background.The aim of this Master’s programme is to enable the graduates to cope with various questions concerning IT Law in private and public sectors. Therefore, it does not involve just teaching the existing legal frameworks on IT Law, but also encourages a critical appraisal of them. The Master’s programme participants get a profound knowledge of the latest developments in IT Law, its areas of applications and its realization in practice.

About the Programme

The study programme aims at preparing the students for multijurisdictionary practice in the increasingly important field of IT law, as well as enhancing performance in the traditional fields of law through introduction to modern legal techniques and solutions provided by IT.This program is created under recommendation of the EULISP – CDA (European Universities Legal Informa-tics Study Programme) project and is implemented jointly with University of Zaragoza (Spain), University of Rovaniemi (Finland), University of Vienna (Austria), Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium).

The Joint International Law Master’s Programme is an ideal choice for Law graduates, who wish to expand their knowledge in the field of International Public Law, International Private Law and European Union Law.Mykolas Romeris University in partnership with the University of Ghent (Belgium, Flanders) presents this Programme to enhance International Law skills and strengthen the basics of European Union Law in an international environment. Graduates will obtain LLM diploma, enabling continuation of research in doctoral studies.

About the Programme

The Joint International Master’s Programme is unique in the way that it caters for and meets the needs of International Law and European Union Law specialists. This is a two-year programme which combines all the essential aspects of International Public and Private Law, as well as European Union Law. Welfare Sociology Programme is aimed at the preparation of sociology graduates, experts in social welfare who wish to deepen their knowledge in Sociology and acquire an in-depth understanding of the key conceptual debates and social policy trends in a cross-country perspective. This programme is targeted to the students who have background in Social Science or Humanities. Participants will be able to enhance their skills in development and implementation of social projects and programmes as well as benefit professionally and academically.

About the Programme

Welfare Sociology Master’s Programme is an interdisciplinary study course that falls into three distinct parts.The first of these addresses a variety of sociological issues within a broader socio-economic context, the second deals with the core social policy epistemological issues and the final one focuses on the research. Welfare Sociology Master’s Programme meets the needs of both the EU and non-EU member states’ students, with a consideration of rapid social changes in Europe and increasing globalization process.

Master of Economics

Introduction

Public Sector Economics Programme is aimed to educate high qualification, cross-sector experts in public sector economics, who would be knowledgeable of the public sector peculiarities on the state as well as on the municipal levels. The graduates will be capable of solving economical problems in the areas of education, health service, social services and the likewise. This programme is targeted to students who have background in economics or public administration.

About the Programme

Public Sector Economics students will understand and will be able to evaluate the public sector fundamentals and content, its role and functions in the context of economical globalisation and integration, economical relationship between the state and its market. They will learn to analyse and apply the mechanisms of public goods production, distribution, consumption, and payment. Acquisition of Master’s Degree in Public Sector Economics enables the graduates of the programme to get placements in economical subdivisions of the public sector, educational institutions where issues of public sector economics are being researched and taught, in economical services of municipalities, districts, ministries and other departments as well as associated business institutions.

Studies at MRU

Programmes are conducted exclusively in English. For this reason, students are expected to have a high level of written and spoken English. The semester lasts 16 weeks and examination session takes 4 weeks. Assessment of student results will normally involve assigned course work as well as an oral or written examination. To pass a course a student must receive a grade no less than 5 out of 10.

Students will have to attend seminars and lectures and work in groups to prepare the given tasks, however, the students’ initiative and ability to work independently will be expected. The courses are concluded with exams, credit tests may be passed in the end of practical classes, after students have performed certain tasks.

A wide variety of assessment forms are applied for the courses including oral exams, written case study/problem exams, home assignments.

Prospective applicants should make themselves familiar with Mykolas Romeris University Study Rules and Regulations.

Tuition fee for one academic year in Bachelor degree •study program is 1506 EUR* (as of 2008).

Tuition fee for one academic year in Master degree •study program is 2317 EUR* (as of 2008).

Visa and temporary residence permit

All international students for studies in Lithuania are required to have the temporary residence permit (TRP). It takes about one month for EU citizens and up to 6 month for non EU citizens to get the temporary residence permit. However for the period until the decision for the permit will be made students may get visa D.

Students can obtain TRP prior to departure at the Lithu-anian embassy in home country or the local Migration Department. The following documents are required:

an application form (available at the embassy in their home •country or at the Migration Department in Lithuania);

a photo; •

a valid passport or personal identity card and copy; •

a letter of confirmation proving that you have been •accepted at the educational institution.

A residence permit for the Republic of Lithuania entitles a foreigner to choose a place of residence in the country, to change residence, to leave the Republic of Lithuania and to return to the residence while the permit is still valid.

Lithuania is a signatory to the Schengen Convention. If you have a visa issued by one of the Schengen countries, it is automatically valid for all other Schengen countries.
