Reactor Park in Western and Central Europe
Only about 10% of all shut down plants have
been fully decommissioned, the rest being at
different stages of “safely enclosed”,
“dismantling” and “decommissioning”.
This growing decommissioning market
creates a potential for new activities, with
highly skilled jobs in an innovative field.

Workforce Model Operations
Having in mind the actual
EHRO-N reports from 2013 and
2014 focused on operation of
nuclear facilities and an
assumption that the ratio
between nuclear experts,
nuclearized and nuclear aware
people is comparable also for
decommissioning, as well as the
fact that the special study branch
for decommissioning in the
European countries almost does
not exist, this European
Decommissioning Academy
(EDA)

CEDOD (2014-2016)
Centre for design, operation
and decommissioning of
nuclear facilities at
INPE STUBA
2014-2015 Accredited study at Bc., MSc. and PhD. level in Nuclear and
Physical Engineering.
- done 2014, accreditation valid since 09/2015
(reason – escape from general power engineering scheme)
2014-2019 Preparation and performance of post-gradual training
courses for Slovak or international institutions in operation or
decommissioning of nuclear facilities
2015 – Preparation and performance of European Decommissioning
Academy (collaboration with IAEA and EC)
- done EDA starts at 7. June 2015

Conclusions from International
conference ECED (Eastern and
Central European Decommissioning)
18. – 21. 6. 2013 in Trnava, Slovakia
Organised by Slovak Nuclear Society (SNUS)
About 200 participants from 16 countries
Slovakia has experiences from design, operation and
DECOMMISSIONING from shut-down NPPs
i) after accident NPP A1 (Gas cooled heavy water reactor)
ii) before projected lifetime (2x VVER-440 units V1)
Both in locality Bohunice (Slovakia).

Conclusions from
ECED conference
Education, training and proper knowledge management
has some specific features for decommissioning.
Based on our running training courses at the Slovak
University of Technology, we would like to create the
European Academy for Decommissioning in collaboration
with EC and IAEA.
We recommend preparing lessons, practical exercises as
well as on-side training at the NPP V-1 in Jaslovske
Bohunice in English.

Education, training and proper knowledge
management has to be skills oriented –
therefore we accent:
- on site training,
- technical tours,
- laboratory exercises,
- case studies,
- best practices exchange
EDA quality depends on quality of teachers.
Actually we address best experts from Europe to participate
