WELCOME GREETINGS
Dear conference delegates,
I am really glad to have the opportunity to invite you to Milan for the event “THE ROLE OF OB-SERVATORIES AND INTERMEDIARIES IN EUROPE-AN REGIONS AND LOCALITIES“, as Scientific Di-rector of CRISP, which is hosting the Conference this year within the University of Milan-Bicocca. Working at the University I am aware that is nec-essary to enhance the role of Intermediaries and
Observatories to create a bridge between the educational and training supply and the labour market. In regard to this issue the Erasmus+ pro-gram funded a project called “VET-EDS, ALIGNING VET AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES” also to enhance the role of labour market observatories in this process. This is a also a great opportunity to learn about the North Italy and visit the EXPO, a global showcase where more than 140 participating coun-tries will show the best of their technology on the topic Feeding the Plan-et—Energy for life. Yours, Mario Mezzanzanica

The European Network on Regional Labour Market Monitoring (EN RLMM) focuses on innovative ap-proaches for the monitoring of labour markets in regions and localities across Europe.
EN RLMM
Through various activities involving the publishing of Anthologies and or-ganising meetings, it seeks to further the concepts and instruments in re-gional and local labour market monitoring and to diffuse the common methods for the study, research and analysis in this field. In 2010, the EN RLMM started the Initiative for Networking Regional and Local Labour Market Observatories Across Regions. Meanwhile, the Initia-tive reaches over 500 labour market observatories in the regions and locali-ties of 32 European countries.
The venue of the European Day of the EN RLMM is the University of Milan Bicocca. The University of Milano-Bicocca was established in 1998, to serve students from Northern Italy and relieve some of the pressure on the over-crowded University of Milan. From the start, this very fertile climate became a unique training ground, which offered
In 2015, the 5th Annual Meeting of the EN RLMM will take place in the Lombardy region. In the northern part of Italy, and more precisely in Mi-lan, the economic centre of nation, and the city hosting the Universal Exhibition - EXPO (May 1 - October 31, 2015).

The topic of the fifth EN RLMM European Day is concerned with aligning VET and regional development strategies and the role of labour market observatories in this process. Labour market observatories provide reliable and targeted labour market intelligence on the national, regional and local level. Increasingly, regional and local labour market observatories go beyond providing and analysing data. They participate actively in the planning, implementation and evaluation processes creating spaces for new allianc-es, cooperation and networks. As a result, they emerge as important ac-tors in devising and implementing regional and local development strate-gies. Labour market initiatives constitute an important part of regional and local development strategies. In order to improve the links between VET system and the world of work, VET policy needs to be better aligned with economic development strategies. At the heart of such coordinated and integrated policy-making lies labour market intelligence and forecasting. It serves as a reference point for the decision-makers and also helps them monitor the effects of their initia-tives. Innovative practices of aligning VET policy with economic development strategies already exist in many European regions and localities. We will seek to understand the success criteria at the ground of these initiatives—in particular the role of targeted labour market information in those pro-cesses and we’ll discuss the best practices.
