Introduction

This is a CLIL project aimed at students in the third Cycle of Primary Education.

This project wants to achieve that students make a research

on different countries.

It has the objective that students know and learn more about different countries while using the English

language.

This is a CLIL project aimed at students in the third Cycle of Primary Education. This project wants to achieve that students make a research on different countries. It has the objective that students know and learn more about different countries.

Learning objectives (both language and content):

• To learn some specific content from the Social Science curriculum through English.• To read, write and talk about Countries around Europe in English.• To develop cognitive skills in a CLIL context. • To engage students positively in a CLIL environment to benefit both from thelearning of the content and the learning of the language.

The lesson plans of this didactic sequence have been designed taking intoaccount the specific skills of the two subject areas involved plus sometransferable competences.

Assessment:

• To find and to learn geographic location of European countries.• To locate the main capital cities.• To identify the main European landscapes.

Brainstorming to know the previous knowledge about European geography.

Give students a map and the name of the countries and tell them to complete the countries that they remember.

Review the countries that they remember and try to complete the map all together

Description

Map in the projector and students have to guess the countries

Watch the video-story.

Give the students the transcription of the story with gaps. They have to complete it and answer questions about the story in order to know if they have understood

Rewatch the video stopping it while correting the activities

Give them the sample worksheet that they have to present in pair to the class

This story explains the London travel of Tristan and its adventures with his friends. The vocabulary is suitable for the students in 6th grade and the story is interesting.

Choose one European country and prepare a short presentation with pictures.

At least, you have to include: -   Location of the city in Europe (you can use a map) -   Comparation with other countries (using the comparatives and

supertatives, for example: bigger/smaller than, the most beautiful...) -   Capital city:           - Number of inhabitants           - Language spoken               - Principal landmarks

You can add whatever you think that it is important and you want to share with your schoolmates

Reflections

I personally think that this kind of projects are very useful to our students. We break with the routines and apply the English in other context which help the students to improve all the skills specially theirfluency and speaking skills. Because of this, I think that in the future I will do this kind of projects, ofcourse planning it with more time.
