EuroSITES data management implements GEOSS data sharing principles
From GEO Work Plan 2009-2011:AR-09-03: Advocating for Sustained Observing Systems: Global Ocean Observation System (GOOS, IEEE, IOC)
- Improve the global coverage and data accuracy of the coastal/ open ocean observing systems as well as the management and archiving of the resulting data and information. -Building on existing capabilities, develop a global coordinated information and data system for deep-ocean monitoring to better understand the dynamics of the ocean processes throughout the ocean water column.
Data management: As the European component of the OceanSITES network, EuroSITES is building on existing initiatives to improve data discovery, availability, near real-time access, traceability (e.g. metadata) and dissemination of in situ ocean data

Data management
-Common data policy and Open Access following OceanSITES and Community data policy (INSPIRE Directive) and GEOSS Data Sharing Principles for Free and Open Access-Real-time delivery and QC data (data/metadata) -Accessible data e.g. Websites (EuroSITES), ftp (OceanSITES), MyOcean (in situ TAC), GTS-Interoperability: Interchangeable format for both data (OceanSITES NetCDF v1.1) and metadata (towards SensorML) and quality assurance

Data discovery: EuroSITES is a key contributor of data to EMODNET pilot portals e.g. physical pilot portal
real-time data delivery delayed mode data

Model applications: EuroSITES is an in situ data provider to GMES through MyOcean (in situ TAC)-Daily delivery of physical datasets through MyOcean and to the GTS for the modelling community-Delayed mode data are used for validation of open ocean physical-biogeochemical models. Currently R&D. Future operational delivery.

Moorings
Towards Good Environmental Status of our seas:Biodiversity, Ecosystem and Health
1. Enhance the capability for near real-time data flow of biogeochemical data (Technology, QC, tagging, metadata)
2. Enhance access and uses of delayed mode data e.g. species identification using genetic/molecular approaches, time-lapse photography
E.g. Near real-time biogeochemical datasets from the EuroSITES CIS observatory, Irminger Sea, North Atlantic
In situ detection of biological organisms and their gene productsEnvironmental Sample Processor
