Summer is finally here! Most of us have had our Porsches out in the new summer heat many times already, and our summer schedule of events is just beginning. We hope you’ll come out soon and enjoy the camaraderie of your fellow Porsche enthusiasts in the coming months. We have an awesome schedule this year, which gets into top gear starting June 23rd at the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, MI. It’s a truly world-class museum, and a great afternoon with us.
Thanks again to our many new advertisers for being a part of our new Über Alles. They are what help make this publica-tion possible, and we urge you to give them a good look. We strive to bring the best advertising partners to our members - not just those with products and services relevant to our membership, but those with a reputation for excellence as well.
Tech SessionSpeaking of excellence, we’d like to invite you to Delta Porsche for the first Tech Session we’ve had in many years. Dave Stouten, Delta’s Service Manager, has volunteered his Porsche Service Department for a couple of hours on July 14th to help answer your questions about maintaining your Porsche. This will be an invaluable time to learn about winterization and storage, inspecting a potential purchase, basic maintenance, and other topics. You won’t want to miss this one!
Summer EventsOnce again...please have a good look at our calendar - and the Zone 4 calendar - on pages 9 and 10. There are so many opportunities for track time, you wouldn’t believe it - and you don’t have to go far to get it - Grattan, Ionia, Waterford, South Bend... (And we didn’t even list any of the events for the Zone 13 [Chicago-Wisconsin-etc.] regions...) More than that, there are some incredible car shows and events that you’ll want to experience again and again, like the 356 Regis-try’s East Coast Holiday in Cleveland. Ren and I are going to Porsches to Oxford again this year, and to Meadowbrook and the Pittsburgh Vintage GP next year. And who knows...you may even find us at the VW-Porsche reunion in Cinncin-natti too. Is a trailer hitch for the Eurovan in our future? Hmmm...

We’re celebrating our region’s 50th anniversary in 2010! Come celebrate with us - it will be a weekend filled with Porsches, friends, and fun! Look for your formal invitation to arrive sometime in June.
Some people have asked, just what is this all about anyway? Back in 1960, a few Porsche enthusiasts founded a new region of the Porsche Club of America, in Western Michigan. We are honoring Porsche, PCA, and you, our members, with a celebration of our region’s past 50 years. It’s our golden anniversary, and we want to make it something very special.
Think of it as a “mini-Parade” in your own back yard. We are planning a number of events spread out over 3 days in August. Many members are already planning on spending the entire weekend in downtown Grand Rapids, the spritual home of our region and the center of our celebratory weekend.
To pay homage to our rich history, we’ve secured the Calder Plaza for our Saturday morning Concours, a centerpiece of our special weekend. The photos you see here are from our 1973 event known as “Holiday on Wheels”. As our membership has grown, we anticipate many more Porsches to surround Alexander Calder’s legendary sculpture in August of 2010.
This will be a tremendous weekend, to be remembered by WMR members for decades. Your officers and a small group of devoted volunteers are working now to finalize details of all the events, and you can expect this weekend to be truly special. You will not want to miss it!

May Dinner Drive to Fenn Valley Vinyards Submitted by Dan Phillips
Wow, what a great event!
After a beautiful drive through Allegan county along the Kalamazoo river, a long caravan of beautiful Porsches rolled through the gates of south western Michigan’s premier winery, Fenn Valley Vineyards. Rev-elers were then treated to an in-depth tour of the wine making facilities, where Doug Welsch explained the fruits, the harvests, the processes, and the joys of making every kind of wine, from the whites and ice wine, to reds and ‘sparkling wines’ (we learned it’s only called Champagne if it comes from Champagne, France.)
The best part of the day was the elegant 3-course gourmet meal catered by local chef Christine Ferris, each course paired with the best wines Fenn Valley has to offer. It was an unforgettable experience for those who enjoy fine wine, great food, and the company of like-minded Porsche enthusiasts! Cheers!

Cheers!

Vom Schreibtisch des Präsidenten
Hmmm...
