Why a European regional policy?

Since the creation of the European Union as we know it today, economic and social cohesion has been one of the main pillars for European integrationSpecifically, the explicit objective is: “... Reduce the disparities between the levels of development of the various regions”.

Weaknesses and Threats:-Insular nature, geographical discontinuity, limited territorial extension, double insular nature-Small-scale economies: industrial and business atomization-Economic specialisation (tourism) and dependence on foreign situations. -Densely populated area and a high level of pressure on the limited natural resources. -Behind in matters concerning Researchm Development and Innvoation.

Strengths and Opportunities: -Extraordinary geographical location and good flight connections with Europe. -Industrial sector for shoes, furniture and fashion jewellery-Diversification of the tourist amenity-Established activities, a good basis for R+D+i projects (agro-food, renewables, waste…)-Territorial integration in each of the islands
