The Life and Times of William Webb:
“An African-American Soldier from CT”
The Senior Center will present Kevin Johnson as William Webb, and African-American Civil War Soldier from Connect-icut. Private Webb was an actual soldier, a native of Hartford. He was recruited in 1863 and served in the Twenty-Ninth (Colored) Regiment, Connecticut Volunteer Infantry in several battles in Virginia. Johnson's presentation of Webb is told from an emotional and exciting first-person perspective that vividly illustrates the struggle of the African-Americans in the Colored Infantry during the Civil War. The presentation is based on extensive research in the collections of the Connecti-cut State Library and the Museum of Connecticut History. Mr. Johnson has received tremendous reviews and accolades on his performance! Don’t miss out on this unique presentation! Sign up in the office! Call 860-627-1425 ext. 2 for more in-formation!

MUNICIPAL AGENT NOTES By John Sullivan
A Warning from the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) of the Social Security Administration (SSA)
People all over the country report being phoned by call-ers claiming to be with the Social Security Administra-tion. The callers state that, due to improper or illegal activity with your S.S. number or account, you will be arrested or face other legal action unless you call a phone number they provide. SSA employees do some-times phone people but they will never threaten or try to scare you. Sometime, the callers switch tactics and claim that they want to help you to activate a suspended SS number. Please be advised that calls like these are a scam and you should just hang up. If you have ques-tions about any communication-email, letter, text or phone call-that claims to be from SSA or the OIG, please call SSA’s customer service number 1-800-772-1213, or contact the OIG at 1-800-269-0271 or online at https://oig.ssa.gov/report. Best Regards, John P.S. My wife Barbara talked to-and hung up on-one of these fraudulent callers, after they couldn't state her name.
John’s Tip of the Month On the local front, if someone phones you claiming to be with Eversource and threatens to shut off your power unless you send them money, hang up! Lots of Con-necticut residents have already fallen for this scam and sent money. Eversource doesn't phone people. They’ll send you a warning letter if they’re about to shut off your power for non-payment.
selors will be available at the Senior Center to pro-vide tax assistance and electronic preparation ser-
vices. Appointments are available on All Tax returns are prepared online and transmitted electronically to the IRS and CT

Dear Readers,
Do you remember the day WWII ended? Some of you were serving I’m sure! I was just eleven on August 14, 1945 when WWII ended. My mom & I were on vacation at Sound View Beach at the CT shore. I was upstairs in my bedroom window watching all the people screaming & yelling “the war is over”. This was 74 years ago. Also 74 years ago, a group of young women became what was known then as “flight nurses”. It was not un-til I read my present novel “With Every Letter” written by Sarah Sundin, that “Flight Nurses” even crossed my mind. During WWII, a flight nurse & an officer sta-tioned in North Africa met & became dear friends. The author did many long hours of research on the history of flight nurses during the time of WWII & their contri-butions to healing & serving our wounded service men and women. In all there were 500 brave & compassion-ate young women who dedicated their lives & careers in saving our soldiers to be sent back to the U.S. and their families who were anxiously waiting for them. They took care of our wounded men in combat areas, put them on special air transporters, cared for them enroute to the nearest air base where they would be rushed to an emergency center for medical care. These women were “Angels of Mercy.” The author, Sarah Sundins’ love of WWII history comes from her grandfa-ther who served as a pharmacist's mate (medic) in the Navy & her great uncle flew with the US 8th Air Force in England. I hope you enjoyed reading this article as much as I had writing it. It’s nice to go back in our his-tory & read about the great people who have formed this wonderful country we still live in free and let live free. Have a blessed & beautiful Easter on April 21st! Mary Ann Giannelli
