    How do you set-up a Standalone Ethernet communication to a 2350A Controller?

    This type of connection is useful, especially when using a PC as a printer interface for a 2350A controller

    when you want to automatically print reports. This will be an overview of an Ethernet connection to a

    2350A controller without any intervening switches or other Ethernet network paraphernalia.

    You can use 2 types of CPU boards for this communication: the 6117 and the LX800.On the 6117 and LX800 app rev 3.99 or earlier (16 - bit), it would be possible to piggyback an Ethernet

    card to have Ethernet capability:

    On the LX800, application revision later than 3.99 (32 - bit), you need to attach an Ethernet header cable:

    The TCP/IP application is disabled with a lower BOS revision (for example BOS 1.82). Field service

    recommends upgrade to BOS revision v1.92 or higher.

    We then need to establish the TCP/IP address of the 2350A. There are two options to do this: front

    keypad and Mon2000 through serial.

    1. When using Mon2000, we need to connect to the controller via serial connection or a modem. In Mon2000,

    go to Application -> TCP/IP.

    a. Do not connect through TCP/IP as this will disable changes to the TCP/IP parameters.

    b. Do not use Mon2000 and the Keypad at the same time since this will result in lockout to one or the

    other.

    c. Another article is dedicated to changing the TCP/IP address through the keypad

    d. Other articles as well as Appendix A-2 of the GC500 manual PN 3-9000-537 are dedicated to

    connecting to the 2350A through direct serial connections.

    2. Set the TCP/IP address, Modbus register map to use, Comm ID, IP Address, Subnet Mask and Gateway.

    3.4. Click OK to save to the GC.

    5. Exit Mon2000

    Now that the TCP/IP address has been set on the 2350A controller, it would now be necessary to set the TCP/IP

    parameters that Mon2000 will use to connect to the 2350A.

    1. Set the IP address of the PCs Network Interface Card (NIC) through Settings -> Network Connections

    (Windows XP) or Network and Sharing Center -> Network Connections (Windows 7).

    2. Right click on the NIC chosen and click properties.

    3. Double-click on TCP/IP or Internet Protocol Version 4 to set the IP address, Subnet Mask and Gateway of

    the PC. Click Use the following IP Address to make the NIC use your settings.

    c. Make the TCP/IP address the same as that of the GC except the last digit.

    d. Make the Subnet Mask and Gateway to be same as that for the GC

    e. For example only:

    i. GC IP address = 10.161.221.18

    ii. GC Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0

    iii. GC Gateway (optional) = 10.161.221.1

    iv. PC IP address = 10.161.221.19

    v. PC Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0

    vi. PC Gateway address = 10.161.221.1

    4. In Mon2000, go to File -> GC Directory. Insert another line into the directory by going to the last cell of the

    directory and pressing ENTER.

    a. Set the TCP/IP address, Modbus register map to use, Comm ID, IP Address, Subnet Mask and

    Gateway to the same items as the settings on the GC.

    b. Set the station name to ETHERNET

    c. In connection type, choose the same NIC as above.

    e. Click OK to save changesf. Exit Mon2000

    5. Enable communications from the Ethernet port of the GC to the Ethernet port of the PC using a crossed

    cable, for direct Ethernet. Other articles are made to discuss connecting through a crossed cable but this is

    an illustration of the network:

    Testing the TCP/IP network would be necessary. To do this:

    1. Open a command prompt window. You can do this on either Windows XP or Windows 7.

    2. Type PING then the IP address of the GC then press ENTER:

    3.4. There should be a reply like above with Reply fromif everything is OK. Otherwise, double check the

    polarity of your crossed cable (if you are using the cross-cable connection) as well as the snugness and fit of

    the RJ45 connectors used for the networkcrossed or switch/hub.

    5. Type EXIT then press ENTER

    If the test is successful, connect to the GC using Mon2000

    1. In Mon2000, go to File -> Connect

    2. In Select GC for Connect, choose ETHERNET

    3. The GC should be connected within about 10 seconds.
