2010 “ W A L K I N G T O G E T H E R W I T H G O D ” MAY
From the beginning, God knew what kinds of food He wanted us to eat.
Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food." (Gen. 1:29)
We Christians are full aware of the importance of limiting the external messages that we are bombarded
by on a daily basis by the media. We are fully aware of their damaging effects. We shield our children from inappropriate materials. It is important to do so, it our job as parents. After all "We are in the world but not of the world."
Yet, we stuff our faces with artery-clogging, pesticide ridden, fatty junk food full of ingredients that we cannot even pronounce. Why do we
neglect the importance of what we eat? God is concerned about what we eat. Shouldn't we be?
Daniel 1: 1-16, NIV states:15 At the end of the ten days, Daniel and his three friends looked healthier and better nourished than the young men who had been eating the food assigned by the king. 16 So after that, the attendant fed them only

Daniel knew the importance of healthy eating. Eating foods as close to their natural state as possible is a simple code to live by.
Therefore, I believe God would have us buy organic foods whenever possible. They are as close to the natural state as we can get. Often times the cost is equal or slightly different from its treated counterpart.
Also, the evils of treated foods are well chronicled. The many pesticides and chemicals used to treat food are now linked to cancer and other diseases. The EPA considers that 60 percent of all herbicides, 90 percent of all fungicides and 30 percent of all insecticides are carcinogenic. A 1987 National Academy of Sciences report estimated that pesticides might cause an extra 1.4 million cancer cases among Americans over their lifetimes. The bottom line is that pesticides are poisons designed to kill living organisms, and can also be harmful to humans. In addition to cancer, pesticides are implicated in birth defects, nerve damage and genetic mutation.

in the future. (Article courtesy of Scott Richards at FitandFaith.com)
The bible says that “faith without works is dead,” and in that spirit we are adding physical fitness to our commitment of ‘Growing Up In 2010,’ joining hands and hearts which starts with Super Sunday on May 2nd.
Included in May’s focus on physical fitness, we’re committed to eating well, exercising, and getting adequate rest while loving God with our minds, bodies and spirits.
So dust off your running shoes and bring out those jogging suits — the sun has finally melted away all of the Chicago snow and we’re getting set to kick-start the summer in style! Be sure to check the calendar weekly and join us for some fun events to get the heart rate up!

YOUTH SPOTLIGHTIt’s time to experience the FUN in Fundraising! Summer is closer than we can imagine and that means it is time for TEC’s Summer Excursions! To help offset the costs, ECSM will be having two opportunities for you to participate:
Give ‘N Take
The students of The Emmaus Community will work for you! Fill out a form expressing a task they can “take” and do for you for a nominal cost. Or you can have a student do a task that he or she can “give” to you.
Yard Sale
As you clean your home and garage, set aside items that you know can be sold at the Yard Sale. This year’s Yard Sale will be held on June 11th and12th. Items will be collected June 10th (Thursday) evening from 3pm - 8pm, and June 11th (Friday) morning from 9am - 1pm.
Also, if you’d like to make a monetary donation, please put your donation in one of the Giving Baskets, and be sure to indicate that the donation is for our youth summer activities.
Thank you for your continual support of the spiritual formations and development of the children and students of The Emmaus Community!
