Pi Kappa Phi: Eta Phi
By Wylie Burge
It has been quite some time since an official newsletter has been sent from our chapter and I hope this edition finds you well. Let me begin updating you all by giving you some highlights from the Fall semester. The chapter recruited and initiated 11 new members, easily beating out every other fraternity on campus. Our current Chaplain Matt Polonchak collaborated with the George Washington chapter to execute an extremely successful ritual of initiation at the on campus

chapel that they frequently make use of. We have continued our efforts of volunteering at the local Maiden Choice School and held two very successful fundraising events for PUSH America, collectively raising hundreds of dollars. The chapter had an extremely strong showing at the annual Pi Kappa Phi Midyear Leadership Conference and was recognized for having 11 members in attendance, the highest number out of any
chapter that was present. We have also been thriving so far in the spring semester and have managed to recruit 10 associate members, making us the most successful chapter on campus in this area once again. We have several upcoming events that all of you are invited to attend, particularly our philanthropy concert, Oral boards, and the Alumni Picnic
Eta Phi brothers at a Fundraiser at Burger King for the Maiden Choice school.

Due to the fact that it has been so long since the chapter’s last newsletter, an entire section is going to be focused on updates from all of you. I sent out an email several weeks ago asking for updates and got quite a positive response.

Washington DC. It’s Been a wild year between the election and a few overseas trips that I’ve completed. Never would have imagined that I’d be in Thailand, China, Japan,
and Germany; and only in my first 2 years. I have mainly been living out of a suitcase, jumping from city to city, but at this point in my life I wouldn’t change a thing. I am living happily single with no kids in Elkridge, Md.
David was kind enough to provide us with some great pictures, please check them out at the end of the end of the newsletter.

Josh Michael, Student Regent
By Wylie Burge
Josh Michael, #202 Tau Class, has brought quite a bit of honor to his chapter by serving this year as the Student Regent for the University System of Maryland. The student is the sole, voting student representative from the 11 degree-granting institutions of the system. He was selected last March by Governor O’Malley to serve a one-year term from July 1, 2008 through June 20, 2009. At UMBC, Josh is finishing up his junior year and studies
political science and secondary education. During his freshman year, he worked for SGA President Jordan Hadfield (#147, Nu class) as the Assistant Director of Community and Governmental Affairs and then again as the Director under SGA President Jay Lagorio (#185, Pi Class). With a lineage endowed in student leadership, Josh credits much of his success to his mentor and big brother Jordan Hadfield and twin brother Jay Lagorio. He also
has found the brotherhood to be of great support during stressful times, helping him relax and have fun on the weekends. Josh plans to finish his student-teaching this coming year and plans to graduate in the Spring of 2010. After graduation, Josh hopes to teach in an urban middle school, pursue graduate studies in education policy, and one day become a Superintendent of a major urban school district in the United States.
Spring Formal
By Wylie Burge
It is with great excitement that I invite all of you to attend this year’s Spring Formal. Please mark May 2nd on all of your calendars

We will have our own section f the cruise and will be presenting our chapter awards as always. The chapter will be making efforts to contact you
personally about the formal but as the event is approaching fast timely RSVPs are always appreciated. To reserve a spot on the cruise or get more information feel free to contact the chapter or call me personally 240-997-6921. I hope to see you all there.
