Presidents Letter.
Hi All,
It is my absolute pleasure to thank my Committee for the outstanding effort and commitment over the last
five months. An amazing job pulling our National Show together to make it the success it was. I would also
like to thank, the competitors, those who travelled enormous distances to support our show, in the
sporting and conformation, thank you for your comradery. It was fabulous to catch up with friends, new
and old, who I rarely have the opportunity to see.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Wendy and the MaxCapture team for our photographic
memories, a huge effort over the duration of the show. To our judges, our writers and our stewards over
the two days, thank you for sharing our show with us. Lastly, I’d like to thank all of our sponsors for their
generosity and interest in our breed.
Without all of you all, there is no show.
Moving on, it’s time now to prepare for our open show in September. Hope to see you all then.
Cheers for now,
Megan
Secretary Report.
Wow where has the year gone? It will be Christmas before
we know it. Hands up who enjoyed the 2 days of the
National? How much fun did the 150 Dalmatians and their
handlers have who entered this event have? It was great to
see our National so well supported. To our committee,
I thank you all, for the effort that you put into the event.
Even though we are small, I know that our National packed a
punch and will be talked about it for years to come.
Please support our Open Show coming up on the 19th September, just as much hard work goes into
prepping for an Open Show that does for a Champ show. Because of the National this year we did not run
our open show concurrently with our champ show. We hope that we get the entries and
Mrs Ellen Nan-Kivell has lots of Dallys to critique.
We need to build our club, why not encourage your dally loving friends to join? And I know that all the
puppy buyers out there would love to become part of the dally loving world. For new members it is half
price to join for the last half of the year (June 30 to December 31st) if we had more members who are
puppy buyers join we could organise more events and socials to cater for the non “Showies”. Being a
member of the Dalmatian Association of Queensland Inc., gives you lifetime support for yourself and your
Dalmatian. Membership forms are available on our website and you can print them off to add with your
Puppy Packs.
See you all soon at our next meeting on the 25th august, 2015, at the Durack CCC Meeting Rooms, King
Ave Durack, or on the show circuit.
Natasha.

R Lavery: Being an interstate member, does she get a
vote on the NDC Motion with the DAQ. She is not a
member of any other Dalmatian club or Association
and WA does not have a club or association. Can she
vote via our meetings? After much discussion on the
rules of surrounding interstate members, we were
unable to allow her vote. To vote at a QLD meeting you
must reside in QLD. Suggest that we contact Ricky and
tell her to contact the NDC direct to ask how her voice
in WA can be heard for this BCP/LUA motion and the
Mating age of Bitches Motion or any motion that may
come before the before the NDC at a AGM or SGM.

General Business:
Motion Before the NDC:
Put forward by the DCOV and amended by the DCNSW
(6/07/15) Amendment in italics:
The National Dalmatian Council recommends that the
ANKC institute, with the greatest expediency, that ALL
progeny from backcross lines have (1) an Australian
suffix BCP which denotes “BACKCROSS PROGENY”. (2)
an Australia suffix LUA where the dog has been
genetically tested and confirmed to be LUA.
This will ensure that breeders have information on
which to base their breeding choices now & into the
future.
This was motion discussed at length. All attending
members were given a chance to put forward their
views on this motion. We had 3 Absent Member votes
on this motion via Email or Phone from Joan Roseworn,
Allyson & Mary Forrest and Samantha and Janice
Hartley (as documented in Correspondence List
attached)
Vote for this motion (YES) was unanimous.
Motion Carried. Megan Bennett and Julie Beeby to
report our vote at the NDC SGM in September.
Natasha and Megan reported on attending the to the
Annual Dogs Queensland President, Secretary and
Treasurers meeting. This was held on the 14th July 2015
At Durack.
At the PST Meeting they discussed Lockers.
This reminded us that we had a locker up until about
18mths ago and we cancelled it as we did not know
what number, or where keys were. At the meeting they
said that each locker held a $400 bond. We discussed if
we received this bond back from DQ when we cancelled
the locker. Julie and Toni thought we did. Julie to check
accounts to investigate if this was received.
DAQ Point Score: Should we look at adding a neuter
category for 2016? This was discussed and Julie made
some suggestions. Julie will look into it and report her
ideas for the next meeting.
Should we hold an end of year Christmas Dinner?
A chance to socialise without our dogs. Goal: To create
a greater social aspect to our club. To be discussed
more at the next meeting.
Fran put forward should we look into running an
Endurance Title (ET) next Year. In Queensland these can
only be run in Winter. This was discussed and Natasha
to Email DQ to see what we would have to do to run
one.
National Photographs were discussed. We have a Disk
of pictures from MaxCapture but Natasha is yet to look
at it. Need to investigate the 1-5th places and add
within the critique and also pictures of the winning dogs
for a General Specials page. for club records. Natasha
to work on it and report progress for next meeting.

Blast from the Past from our February 2001 Digest!
Whoever said “Let Sleeping Dogs Lie” Obviously never had
really slept with dogs!
The first thing you discover when you bring a dog onto your bed is the striking
difference in weight between an alert dog and a dog at rest. . . (author unknown)
Rule No 1: The deeper the sleep the heavier the dog. Most people who sleep with dogs develop spinal
deformities rather than rent he heavy seaport cranes necessary to lift their snoring canines to a more
appropriate part of the bed. Cunning canines very slowly and insidiously steal precious space in tiny
increments until they have achieved the centre position on the bed—with all covers carefully tucked
under them for safekeeping. The stretch-and-roll method is very effective in gaining territory. Less subtle
tactics are somethings preferred. A jealous dog can worm his way between a sleeping couples and with
the proper propelling action from all four legs, shove a sleeping human to the floor.
Rule No 2: Dogs possess superhuman strength while on a bed. As you cling precipitously to the edge
of the bed, wishing you had covers, your sweet dog begins to snore at a volume you would not have
thought possible. Once that quiets down, the dog dreams begin. Yipping, growling, running, kicking.
Your bed becomes a battlefield or playground of canine fantasy. It starts out with a bit of “sleep running”,
lots of eye movement and then, suddenly, a shrieking howl blasted through the night like a banshee wail.
The horror of this wake up call can haunt you for years. It’s particularly devastating when your pup insists
on sleeping curled around your head like a demented Daniel Boon cap.
Rule No 3: The deeper the sleep, the louder the dog. The night creeps on and you fall asleep in the
three inches of bed not claimed by a dog. The dog dreams may quiet down slightly and the heap of dog
flesh sleeps—breathing very heavily and passing copious wind. Then, too soon, it’s dawn and the heap
stirs. Each dog has a distinctive and unpleasant
method of waking every living person in the bed. One
may position itself centimetres from a face and stare
until you wake. The clever dog obtains excellent
results by simply sneezing on your face, or they could
romp all over your sleeping bodies—or the ever-loving
insertion of a tongue in an unsuspecting ear.
Rule No 4: When the dog wakes—you wake! So,
why do we put up with this? There’s no sane reason.
Perhaps it’s just that we’re a pack and the pack
snuggles together at night—safe, contented, heavy
and loud.

Treasurers Report: Well the 15th National Dalmatian Specialty is now over and I am very pleased to inform our members of the significant achievements of you all in assisting us to run the National with only a slight deficit of $707.10. This was a great effort as we had only volunteered to hold this National at short notice and there was limited fund raising. However, the small margin we made on all the embroidered merchandise was enough due to the incredibly large number of orders that were placed. Funds were also raised through raffle and auction of many items donated by our friends and members and Natasha McIntyre was a wizard at getting wonderful sponsors for so many of our trophies and sashes. The Club has $6,545 in the bank, which is only $1345 less than we had in our accounts in September 2014, which was before we started spending on the National. I can therefore confidently say the club is in good standing for the events to be held in the coming years. While not as extravagant, for our Open Show we have an exciting new supplier for rosettes and there will be prizes for all classes so I hope all members enter to enjoy a relaxing day in September. Regards Julie

Featured Book Secrets, Spies & Spotted Dogs by Jane Eales.
A simple need for her birth certificate leads Jane, aged 19, to a devastating secret:
she was adopted. Stunned, Jane is sworn to secrecy, and forbidden to search for her
biological family—a promise she honours until the death of her adoptive parents.
A heart-wrenching family crisis and a longing to know her origins then drive Jane to
painstakingly research her roots in Rhodesia, Johannesburg, London, Berlin and
Sydney.
Secrets, Spies and Spotted Dogs interweaves the raw emotion of adoptee discovery,
the heart-pounding threads of WWII espionage at Arnhem, and the author's poignant search
for truth and identity.
Dals should be bold. Dals should be gay.
BELLET
As a child I helped Addy and Lucy Parson’s kennelman during my holidays.
When I left school I picked my first Dal from Desdemon’s litter who was
Bandol Beauty,
C.C. Richmond 1929, four firsts, Best of Breed, Redhill, beating her half brother,
Ch. Bookham Swell. Taken to South of France 1930. Shot with five others, one a lovely
daughter of Ch. Lucky James, in 1939.
The Comet,
Four firsts, Best of Breed, Met. And Essex, 1930, Sold to G. A. C. Bury in 1930 when
I left England. Sire and grand-sire of many champions.
I returned to England in 1939 and found a bitch of my breeding. All my stock are
descended from her, carefully line bred for the correct Dal type, taught me by
Mrs. Kemp, who had asked me to judge at the Autumn Committee Meeting of
the S.D Club in 1929.

This image is an advertisement
in the Kennel Club Catalogue,
1956. This advertisement was
placed by Jane’s birth mother. It
is a little bit hard to read in this
image, so I have transcribed the
text here.
This biography was the first I’ve
ever read, and I finished it within
2 days. I couldn’t put it down, I
had to find out more about Jane
& her family. The book itself is
only 282 pages.
I couldn’t wait to get to the parts
involving Dalmatians, and they
were well worth the wait, I even
went back and reread some of it
after finishing the book.
You can find this book at any
good book outlets or your local
library.
