Installation instructionsTo install the NETCOM-16D, complete these steps in order.

1. Select a desktop location for the NETCOM-16D.

2. Connect one or more serial (RS-232) devices to theRJ-45 ports. See "Wiring diagram."

Note: To provide a proper interface for theNETCOM-16D, EST2 and IRC-3 panels require anIOP3-A and FCC panels require an FCOM-232 card.

3. Connect an Ethernet cable to the 10Base-T port on theNETCOM-16D and then to your Ethernet networkconnection. See "Wiring diagram."

4. Attach one end of the power cable to the NETCOM-16Dand plug the other end into a surge protected electricaloutlet or UPS (recommended). See "Wiring diagram."

5. Turn on the NETCOM-16D.

The NETCOM-16D goes through a set of power-updiagnostics for 12 seconds. The LEDs show varyingpatterns corresponding to the tests being run.

6. Install the EZWebCon software on your PC.

7. Assign the NETCOM-16D an IP address usingEZWebCon. See "Assigning an IP address to theNETCOM-16D." Also see the "System setup proceduresand worksheets" topic in the Network ApplicationsManual (P/N 3100576) for obtaining an IP address.

8. Configure the serial RS-232 ports using EZWebCon.See "Configuring a NETCOM-16D RS-232 port."

9. Configure the communication ports on each controlpanel and FireWorks computer to communicate with theNETCOM-16D. See "Configuring a control panel orFireWorks computer" for required configuration settings.

10. After all installation, wiring, and communication settingsare complete, test the communication of theNETCOM-16D with each component.

Wiring diagramThe back panel of the NETCOM-16D has a power plug, RJ-4510Base-T Ethernet port, and sixteen RJ-45 serial ports.

DTE - DB-25 adapter pinout

If you are connecting an RJ-45 port to a DTE device (such as aterminal) that has a DB-25 connector, you will need to use anRJ-45-DTE DB-25 adapter. To connect an RJ-45 port to aDB-25 connector on a DCE device, you will need an RJ-45 toDCE DB-25 adapter.

Assigning an IP address to theNETCOM-16DThe EZWebCon configuration software is the easiest way toconfigure the NETCOM-16D. Follow these steps to assign anIP address to the NETCOM-16D.

Note: For more details on using the EZWebCon software, referto its online help system.

1. From the Action menu, click Assign IP Address.

2. Enter or change the IP-related settings:

a. For Ethernet Address, enter the number that appearson the bottom label of your NETCOM-16D.

b. For IP Address, enter the desired IP address for yourNETCOM-16D. [1]

c. For Subnet Mask, change the values provided only ifyou wish to use a mask other than the default. [1]

3. Click OK.

4. Follow the onscreen instructions.

Configuring a NETCOM-16D RS-232 portYou need to configure each serial port that is being connectedto a control panel.

1. From the File menu, click Browse Network.

Your NETCOM-16D will be listed with its IP address.

2. Click the NETCOM-16D in the list.

3. Click OK.

Your NETCOM-16D is displayed with its assigned IPaddress.

4. Click the NETCOM-16D to highlight it.

5. From the Action menu, click Manage.

6. Click Maintenance.

7. Double-click Ports.

8. Select the port you want to edit. You must set up each portthat you are connecting a device to (e.g. a control panel).

9. On the General tab, set the Serial Port GeneralParameters using the following:

CM1N, DCPU, and 2-MCMCharacter size: 8Parity: EvenAccess: RemoteFlow control: NoneStop bits: 1Speed: 1200 to 9600

3-CPU1Character size: 8Parity: NoneAccess: RemoteFlow control: NoneStop bits: 1Speed: 19200

10. Click OK.

11. Click Menu.

12. Click Extract Configuration from Server.

This allows you to save the NETCOM-16D configuration ina file. If there is a problem, you can download this file tothe NETCOM-16D and avoid repeating the configurationsteps.

13. Follow the instructions in the Save Configuration window.

14. Click OK.

15. Click Close.

You have now finished setting up the NETCOM-16D.

16. From the File menu, click Exit.

Configuring a control panel or FireWorkscomputer

EST3 panel settings

In the SDU, set the RS-232 communication port to"Gateway 3" for FireWorks communications.

FireWorks settings

The following settings must be configured in the FireWorksCommunications Manager for each NETCOM-16D serial portthat is connected to a control panel.

NETCOM-1FDevice Server

IntroductionThis installation checklist is a supplement to the NETCOM-1FUser Guide. Use this checklist to set up and install yourNETCOM-1F. Make sure you follow the procedures in theorder shown.

Parts you will need:

• NETCOM-1F• NETCOM-BRKT mounting bracket• NETCOM-1F User Guide (P/N 900-290)• Network Applications Manual (P/N 3100576)• NETCOM-CD

Steps for setting up and installing aNETCOM-1F

Step 1: Review Section 1, "Introduction," in theNETCOM-1F User Guide. This will help you tobecome familiar with the NETCOM-1F'sspecifications, LEDs, RJ-45 connection, and fiberoptic connections.

Step 2: Follow the procedures in Section 2, "GettingStarted," in the NETCOM-1F User Guide forconnecting the NETCOM-1F to a computerand/or Ethernet network and for assigning an IPaddress to the NETCOM-1F. Also refer to thetopic "System setup procedures and worksheets"in the Network Applications Manual(P/N 3100576) for obtaining IP addresses.

Step 3: Follow the procedures in Section 3, "Configuringthe Unit," in the NETCOM-1F User Guide forconfiguring the NETCOM-1F to communicate ona network.

Note: See pages 2 and 3 of this installation sheetfor device configuration settings. Refer to boththe "Overview" and "Application" settings.

Step 4: Disconnect the NETCOM-1F from your PC ornetwork.

Step 5: Install the NETCOM-1F in a cabinet using theNETCOM-BRKT mounting bracket. Seeinstallation sheet P/N 3100575.

Step 6: Connect all wiring. See Figure 1.

- Connect the 24 Vdc power wiring- Connect the RJ-45 or fiber optic network wiring- Connect the DB-25 RS-232 wiring

Note: To provide a proper interface for the deviceserver, EST2 and IRC-3 panels require anIOP3-A and FCC panels require an FCOM-232card.

Caution: When using a NETCOM-1F between aFireWorks computer and CCTV controllers, ifeither of the two transmit or receive wires areshorted, you will lose communications. Toreestablish communications, shut down andrestart FireWorks.

Step 7: Configure the communication ports on eachcontrol panel, FireWorks, and ACDB computer tocommunicate with the NETCOM-1F. See pages 2and 3 of this installation sheet for configurationsettings. Refer to both the "Overview" and"Application" settings.

Note: If you are using the NETCOM-1F with anACDB computer or FireWorks computer withCCTV controllers, you need to install theNETDIRECT software and set it up tocommunicate on your network. Follow theprocedures in Section 4, "NETDIRECT," in theNETCOM-1F User Guide for installation andsetup information. Refer to both the "Overview"and "Application" settings on pages 2 and 3 ofthis installation sheet for configuration settings.

Step 8: After all installation, wiring, and communicationsettings are complete, test the communication ofeach NETCOM-1F with each component they areconnected to.

Overview of configuration settingsNETCOM-1F configuration settings are dependent on twofactors, the panel you are connecting to and the applicationyou are setting up.

EST3 panel settings

• RS-232 port: set to "Gateway 3" for FireWorks• RS-232 port: set to "none" for the ACDB• RS-232 port: set to "printer" for a data terminal

FireWorks settings (Communications Manager)

• IP address: set to address of device server• IP port number: set to 10001 or 10002 for CH1 or CH2• EST3 port type: set to Gateway 3 for TCP/IP

communications

ACDB settings

• Outbound port: set to virtual port (configured inNETDIRECT)

NETDIRECT settings

If you are using the NETCOM-1F with an ACDB computer orFireWorks computer with CCTV controllers, you need to installthe NETDIRECT software and set it up to communicate withyour network. Follow the procedures in Section 4,"NETDIRECT," in the NETCOM-1F User Guide for installationand setup information.

• Create a virtual COM port (one that does not physicallyexist)

• Add the IP address TCPPort = 3001

Device server settings

• Baud rate: set to baud rate of the panel• I/F Mode: set to 4C for EST3, 7C for IRC-3, EST2, FCC,

and Pelco (CCTV)• Flow: set to 00• Port number: set to 10001; if using NETDIRECT add

11000 to the TCPPort value that was entered inNETDIRECT (e.g. 11000 + 3001 = 14001) (acceptablerange = 14001 to 14009)

• Connect mode: set to C0 for most panels and applications,set to C1 for device servers connected to a control panelin the data terminal application

• Remote IP: set to 0.0.0.0; if connecting to another deviceserver (e.g. data terminal application) set to the IP addressof the device server connected to the data terminal

• Remote port: set to 0 for most panels and applications; setto 10001 (CH1) or 10002 (CH2) for device serversconnected to a control panel in a data terminal application

• DisConnMode: set to 00• FlushMode: set to 80 if the device server is connected to

an EST3 panel and 00 for all others• PackControl: set to 23 (on only if Flush Mode is enabled)• DisConnTime: set to 00:00• SendChar1: set to 0D if device server is connected to an

EST3 panel; 00 for all others• SendChar2: set to 0D if device server is connected to an

EST3 panel; 00 for all others

Application specific configuration settingsThe following settings are application specific and should beused for each of the listed applications. See the NetworkApplications Manual (P/N 3100576).

Fireworks with EST3 using a NETCOM-1F

• Panel RS-232 port configured as Gateway 3 (this is set inthe SDU)

Step 3: Follow the procedures in Section 3, "Configuringthe Unit," in the NETCOM-1S User Guide forconfiguring the NETCOM-1S to communicate ona network.

Note: See pages 2 and 3 of this installation sheetfor device configuration settings. Refer to boththe "Overview" and "Application" settings.

Step 4: Disconnect the NETCOM-1S from your PC ornetwork.

Step 5: Install the NETCOM-1S in a cabinet using theNETCOM-BRKT mounting bracket. Seeinstallation sheet P/N 3100575.

Step 6: Connect all wiring. See Figure 1.

- Connect the 24 Vdc power wiring- Connect the RJ-45 network wiring- Connect the DB-25 RS-232 wiring

Note: To provide a proper interface for the deviceserver, EST2 and IRC-3 panels require an IOP3-Aand FCC panels require an FCOM-232 card.

Caution: When using a NETCOM-1S between aFireWorks computer and CCTV controllers, ifeither of the two transmit or receive wires areshorted, you will lose communications. Toreestablish communications, shut down andrestart FireWorks.

Step 7: Configure the communication port(s) on eachcontrol panel, FireWorks, and ACDB computer tocommunicate with the NETCOM-1S. See pages2 and 3 of this installation sheet for configurationsettings. Refer to both the "Overview" and"Application" settings.

Note: If you are using the NETCOM-1S with anACDB computer or FireWorks computer withCCTV controllers, you need to install theNETDIRECT software and set it up tocommunicate on your network. Follow theprocedures in Section 4, "NETDIRECT," in theNETCOM-1S User Guide for installation andsetup information. Refer to both the "Overview"and "Application" settings on pages 2 and 3 ofthis installation sheet for configuration settings.

Step 8: After all installation, wiring, and communicationsettings are complete, test the communication ofeach NETCOM-1S with each component they areconnected to.

Overview of configuration settingsNETCOM-1S configuration settings are dependent on twofactors, the panel you are connecting to and the applicationyou are setting up.

EST3 panel settings

Steps for setting up and installing anNETSW

Step 1: Review the NETSW-EIS Series TechnicalReference Manual for installation information,wiring diagrams, specifications, LEDs, fiber cableconnections, and RJ-45 connections. Also seethe diagram on this sheet.

Step 2: Install the unit in a cabinet using the NETCOM-BRKT mounting bracket. See installation sheetP/N 3100575.

Step 3: Connect the fiber optic network cables to theswitch using the procedures described in theNETSW-EIS Series Technical Reference Manualand the diagram on this sheet.

Step 4: Using CAT5 cable, connect the device servers,FireWorks, or ACDB computers to the RJ-45connections on the switch. Refer to the NETSW-EIS Series Technical Reference Manual and thediagram on this sheet.

Note: Do not connect the NETCOM-1F fiberports to the NETSW fiber ports.

Step 5: Connect the power wiring to the switch using theprocedures described in the NETSW-EIS SeriesTechnical Reference Manual and the diagram onthis sheet.

Step 6: Turn on the computers. When the computerscome online, they will configure themselvesaccordingly. Refer to the topic "System setupprocedures and worksheets" in the NetworkApplications Manual, for details on getting the IPaddresses and subnet mask of your newnetwork.

Step 7: Configure all device servers (NETCOM-1S orNETCOM-1F). Refer to installation sheet P/N3100571 and 3100572 for detailed instructions.
