23/09/19 - Tokyo TourFrom Harajuku, mecca of pop culture, walk through giant wooden torii gates into the sacred forest of Meiji-jingu, a Shinto shrine dedicated to the Meiji emperor. Visit the world’s tallest tower, Tokyo Skytree, and walk along the glass-floored Tembo Galleria at 450 metres above ground. Next stop is the Imperial palace and garden, with buildings and gardens dating from the Edo period. 24/09/19 - Transfer to KanazawaDepart Tokyo by morning bus as we cross the Japan Alps on our way to the castle town of Kanazawa on Japan’s west coast, facing the Sea of Japan. Acultural mecca, Kanazawa has some of the bestpreserved traditional architecture and gardens in Japan, not to mention a strong ninja presence.Meals Included: Breakfast.

25/09/19 - Kanazawa TourExplore traditional Japanese landscape design in 400-year-old Kenroku-en Garden, sample fresh seafood and traditional pickles at the large open-air Omicho market. Stroll through the Higashi Chaya (‘east teahouse’) District where rows of traditional Edo-era teahouses line the streets, and see the ‘Ninja Temple’ (Myoryuji), with hidden tunnels, secret rooms, traps and a maze of corridors designed to defend against intruders and allow secret escape ofinhabitants. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch.

26/09/19 - Takayama Tour Visit the steeply pitched, thatched roof farmhouses of Shirakawago or neighbouring Gokayama, tour a Sake brewery, and see the gorgeous festival floats and enormous drums on display at the Matsuri no Mori museum in Takayama.Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch.

27/09/19 - Transfer to Hamamatsu Depart Kanazawa by bus to Hamamatsu and spend the afternoon exploring the area. Head over to Lake Hamana and rent a bicycle to stretch your legs on the 48-km bicycle lakeside path, then drop in at one of the onsen along the lake and have a relaxing soak in the therapeutic spring waters. If you want to stay in the downtown area, the Hamamatsu Castle and surrounding cherry tree gardens provide a good mix of martial history and stunning beauty. Or visit the Hamamatsu Museum of Musical Instruments, with traditional Japanese instruments as well as others from around the world, some of which you may play. Meals included: Breakfast.

28/09/19 - Match Day: Japan vs Ireland, Shizuoka Stadium Ecopa, 16:15After breakfast, you’re free to explore. You might see the stunning Hamamatsu Flower Park, a 30,000 - square metre botanical garden with more than 3,000 species of plants. Roses and amethyst sage should be beginning to take centre stage about now. In the afternoon we go by bus to Shizuoka Stadium Ecopa for an evening match. Meals included: Breakfast.

29/09/19 - Mt Fuji Day TourFuji-san, as it is commonly known, is the highlight of the day. Japan’s tallest peak and an active volcano, it is the beloved symbol of the nation and a sacred mountain. We travel by bus to Lake Kawaguchi, a beautiful reflecting pool for Fuji-san, and continue a water theme with a walk around the Oshino Eight Ponds for views of Fuji-san and traditional, rural scenery. We meet up with some ninjas at the Oshino Ninja Village before stopping for a lunch prepared

with local ingredients, and then head up to the 5th station (out of 10), for an up-close Fuji-san experience, where you may visit the Shintō shine located there. Return to Hamamatsu by bus in time for dinner on your own. Meals included: Breakfast.

30/09/19 - Transfer to Osaka & Match Day: Scotland v Play-off winner, Kobe Misaki Stadium, 19:15After breakfast we depart for Osaka by charter bus. After check-in we’re off to the match in the harbour town of Kobe, at Kobe Misaki Stadium.Meals included: Breakfast.

1/10/19 - Osaka Tour Explore Namba, gateway to the Osaka’s southern centre and the pulsating neon and giant 3-D overhead food displays that jam the streets of Dotonbori. Cook takoyaki, grilled balls of dough with octopus, and explore Shinsekai, the ‘New World’ neighbourhood built to model Paris and New York, complete with ‘Eiffel Tower,’ Tsutenkaku.Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch.

2/10/19 - Free DaySee the splendid Osaka Castle and adjacent gardens, and then head over to nearby ‘art island’ Nakanoshima, a 50-hectare sandbank in a river in within the city. You might visit Universal Studios Japan, or the Osaka Museum of Housing and Living to see what domestic life in Japan was like through thecenturies. Meals include: Breakfast.

3/10/19 - Match Day: Ireland vs Europe 1, Kobe Misaki Stadium, 19:15 After breakfast you’re free to explore Osaka before the bus transfer to Kobe Misaki Stadium for the evening match of Ireland vs Europe 1. Find out why Osaka’s aquarium is one of the best in the world, or visit the Kabuki theatre and enjoy craft beer on tap served fresh from the brewery next door.Meals included: Breakfast.

4/10/19 - Transfer to Kyoto Depart Osaka by bus to Kyoto, the Old Capital. Head out for a walk and breathe in the soft Kyoto air as you get your bearings around town. Head east from the hotel to the Kamo River, turn left to walk upstream, then head back west when you get to Sanjo-dori (3rd street) to get the feel of classic Kyoto. You’re free to explore on your own the whole day. Meals included: Breakfast.

5/10/19 - Kyoto TourExplore western Kyoto today as we stop in atKinkakuji, the ‘Golden Pavilion,’ then get your Zen on as you gaze at Japan’s most famous rock garden at Ryoan-ji. Head out of the city to Arashiyama and visit Tenryu-ji, a sprawling Zen temple compound dating to 1339, with gorgeous gardens and teahouses. End your day in awe as you traverse paths cutting through towering bamboo in the dark and mysterious Arashi-yama Bamboo Forest.Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch.

6/10/19 - Nara TourToday we visit nearby Nara, Japan’s first permanent capital and cultural treasure chest. Meet the Great Buddha at Tōdai-ji temple, see hundreds of deer in Nara Park, and experience Kasuga Grand Shrine, protectorate of the Fujiwara Clan. More than 3,000 lanterns line the walk approaching the shrine, one for each of the 3,000 Kasuga shrines throughout the country. Like many Shintō shrines, Kasuga Grand Shrine is nestled in a sacred grove, and countless small wooden shrines and mossy, ancient stone lanterns dot the maze of paths through the forest.Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch.

7/10/19 - Free DayEnjoy a free day and nibble your way through historic Nishiki Market, an open-air food extravaganza under an arcade of stained glass. Go early; it gets crowded by midday. See the Museum of Kyoto, housed in an old bank building, and catch up on the history of the city and the July Gion Festival. Peek in on the excel-lent, elegant coffee shop in what used to be the vault. Don’t miss the International Manga Museum, and browse four floors of illustrated comics, definitely not just for kids! In between are teahouses, coffee shops and small cafes galore to fuel your explorations. Meals included: Breakfast.

8/10/19 - Transfer to Hiroshima by charter bus, then the rest of the day is yours to explore the city on your own. Ride the ‘Hiroden’ streetcar around town and visit the five-story Hiroshima castle, a reconstruction of the original built in 1589. Just east of the castle is Shukkei-en Garden, where mountains, valleys, forests and lakes are recreated in miniature. Be on the lookout for okonomiyaki, the signature dish of the region, and Hiroshima’s famous oysters, which are excellent year-round. In the evening, find aneighbourhood izakaya, Japan’s version of a pub, and settle in for small plates ordered one at a time to pair with your sake tastings, and some of the best comes from near Hiroshima.Meals included: Breakfast.

9/10/19 - Hiroshima TourSite of the world’s first atomic bombing, the city of Hiroshima is now a symbol of the wish for world peace. We’ll visit the Peace Memorial Park, and then board a ferry to exquisite and iconic Miyajima Island, site of the ‘floating’ red torii gate in front ofItsukushima Shrine. On the island, feed the wild deer and walk through the gorgeous and sprawling shrine

that juts out over the water. After the return ferry we visit the Kobo Brush Museum in the small town of Kumano, just east of Hiroshima, where you can make your own calligraphy brush.Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch.

10/10/19 - Transfer to FukuokaDepart Hiroshima by bus bound for Fukuoka, a coastal town facing the Sea of Japan on the northwest coast of Kyushu. You’re free to explore Fukuoka after check-in at the hotel. Take a walk and catch the sea breezes off the Sea of Japan, and don’t miss Fukuo-ka’s yatai: tiny, casual food stalls lined up along the waterside, especially at Nakasu. Wander along, leisurely eating and drinking your way down the row!Meals Included: Breakfast.

11/10/19 - Fukuoka Free DayYour day is free to explore Fukuoka. Head over to the pristine beach at Momochi-hama and rent a bike or take a walk along the shore, then dive in to the gentle turquoise waves of the tranquil swimming beach.
