Vaidyanathanji , your query is the most genuine that I have received in recent times. As it involves a long reply , please click Garuda Purana v/s Kalyan issue no. 6 . I repeat:-

"people don't keep Garuda-puraan or read it till one has..... This is MOST FOOLISH as purpose of Garuda Purana is to make us aware of real -purpose of life ( viz. God-realisation ) which is useful to tell when one is alive and kicking or when ....Simply because it exposes Ponga-pundits and spreads true knowledge like Gitaji , or so-called Katha-Pundits discouraged its reading as ( normal ) Puran or scripture and hence confusion is prevailing. Hope educated and intelligent Netizens like you shall spread true message of Garuda Purana which is full of welfare and best wishes only for mankind! "

Is it possible to authenticate what VRIHADTANTRASAAR has asserted? My reading of the Garuda Purana, informs me that Garuda was the king of Birds. He pleased Vishnu, through tapsya, and Vishnu granted him the following boons.

1. Garuda becomes the Vahana of Lord Vishnu.

2. The Power to prevail over all snakes in all the 2 x 7 Lokas of the Universe.

3. Because of the third boon of Lord Vishnu, Garuda becomes knowledgeable which enables him to compose a Purana, i.e. the Garuda Purana, which Vishnu himself recited to Brahma, Shiva and the other gods. Brahmarecited this purana to Vedavyasa, who instilled the knowledge into Romaharshna, who in turn preached it to the other Rishis and Maharishis and Kashyapa is one among the many rishis.
