Error 1316–Learn How to Fix Error 1316 in Windows 7, Vista and Windows XP
If you’re installing or uninstalling a software, you can possibly get error 1316. It simply pops up and
stops all the requested setup tasks. This article would be helpful to get rid of this error and continue
the procedure you were trying before.
Delete Problematic Registry Keys
If you’re getting error 1316 while installing Steam software then delete the following problematic
registry entries. The steps are as follows:
1. Click Start, point to All Programs -> Accessories.
2. Select Run.
3. Type RegEdit and press ENTER. This will open Registry Editor.
4. Delete the following registry entries:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninsta
ll
5. Right click and select Delete option for the following registry key:
{048298C9-A4D3-490B-9FF9-AB023A9238F3}
Modify Windows Installer Image Path
The Image Path of Windows Installer is the directory where a file MSIExec.exe is located. This path
has an entry in the registry so that every time a product is being installed/ uninstalled, relevant file
can be accessed.
If the value of ImagePath is improperly modified by any of the running processes, then you might
encounter error 1316. Fix it by going through the following procedures:
1. Open My Computer, press F3, type MSIExec.exe & press ENTER.
2. Write down the parent folder name on a piece of paper.
3. Open Registry Editor.
4. From the left side panel, expand
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer
5. Double click the string ImagePath and replace its value with the actual parent folder you
have got above.
6. Click OK | Close.
Clean Windows Installer Errors
Windows Installer configurations can have problems. The required information which is loaded by
every setup program can have unacceptable changes leading to error 1316. Just clean the registry to
repair this error.
1. Download a Registry Cleaner program online.
2. Start full registry scan, fix all errors found and then reboot your machine.
Recheck the File Security Permissions
File security permissions are necessary if a setup has to undertake an administrative task. Check
whether the setup is run as an administrator or not. To run the setup as an administrator, you have
to right click it and select Run as Administrator option.
Moreover, verify the file security state of the directory where the setup is copying the files. Open
C:\Program Files or any other location, right click product name folder (say, Microsoft Office) and
select Properties. Click Security tab and verify all the settings. Click OK when you’re done.
Clean Temporary Locations
Are you cleaning temporary files on a regular basis? If not, try this thing as it may help if the problem
belongs to corruption of temporary files. Either download a System Cleaner program or do the steps
given here:
1. Click Start, point to All Programs | Accessories | System Tools.
2. Select Disk CleanUp.
3. Select the drive where Windows is installed. Click OK.
Check for Viruses
Make sure your system is not infected by a virus. Download a good antivirus software online, full scan
the PC and remove any virus infected files found.
